I have no problem with the initial efforts to reduce spread until we knew more and hospital capacity could be increased. As initially proposed to flatten the curve. What happened in Australia was most governments pursued a zero covid approach and did nothing to hospitals whatsoever. Qld is a great example of that, it's hospitals are in even worse condition than when covid started despite no cases.

It's the subsequent efforts to pursue zero covid through lockdowns (262 days of lockdowns in Melbourne) and the ongoing mandating of vaccines, masks and closure of schools with no real science behind it. The stats of places like Florida that did none of these things can't be argued with. They made no difference in the end.

I am not comparing Florida with Melbourne. I was comparing Florida with other states in the US that maintained strict mandates and restrictions. That is the data that shows no difference in death rates and a massive difference in economy and quality of life. I was also referring to the larger studies on masks that show no statistically relevent difference in outcome in COVID transmission for populations having mask mandates to those that don't. ie if there is any benefit it is very small.

What you would have to do is assess states like Florida that took an approach similar to that outlined in the Great Barrington Declaration and the outcome of Victoria down the track when the long term effects of 262 days of lockdown is properly assessed. ie are the detrimental effects of lockdowns worse than dealing with COVID as best you can without locking people up? There are plenty of experts who say it was not worth it.

Right now, no one is talking about let alone assessing the flip side of Australia's pursuit of zero COVID, despite it never actually being a strategy.

So some reports out today that up to half of NSW COVID admissions to hospital were for reasons other than COVID. ie they had no idea until they were tested on entry due to a broken arm or whatever.

Completely theoretical analysis based on some news reports and quotes from the health minister..... but apparently NSW has about 6000 hospital admissions per day normally. If 500 of those were admitted for other than COVID over two days last week. Then that would indicate 1 in 24 people have covid and don't know it in NSW.....

I am sure that is overblown and it's less than that. But does raise an interesting possibility about how much is out there in addition to the official numbers.

so i think your figure would be likely quite conservative, and you could probably double or triple reported cases to get a reasonable estimate (might be lower for hospitalised cases as you ate more likely to have been symptomatic and got a test i gueas)

Actually you are correct, on an 8million population that would suggest only 300,000 people are currently positive for Omicron in NSW...official figures are 450k. It is probably closer to a couple of millon with Omicron so transmissible.

Are you serious? When people are chomped on by a shark or have such terrible injuries in a car crash where they need blood, that they then turn around and ask the details of the donor blood? Maybe check them for head injuries again, as I would just want to live for a start.

No, I am not even O neg. I am O positive. Probably one of the few things positive about me! Only other positive people can have my blood, and I insist on it!

Personally I am surprised that people would avoid letting their family getting blood donations, just for the sake of some belief. I vaguely recall it was something to do with 'not consuming blood', which to me sounds like drinking/eating it, and I doubt anyone writing any scriptures had thought about blood transfusions of the future.

This is interesting stuff as it is to be expected to have lower protection levels. As more people get vaccinated, and the virus mutates in the vaccinated and unvaccinated, you are going to get further from the variants that the existing vaccines are based on.
