NZ has as well. They're claiming they haven't but Hipkins let slip that they'd intentionally limited the numbers of MIQ slots available to keep people out. Unless you play sports of course...

Of the people I talk to during the week, most seem keen for the borders to stay closed, and right now would prefer the date to be pushed back a little. There are a lot of people in WA that have no contact with the eastern states at all.

Obviously there are people that want them opened up, and I can understand why. Someone I know was regularly flying between Perth and Melbourne, and suddenly that stopped. But is it worth the disruption to jobs?

Personally I am not too worried as I think I am in good health and have been vaccinated, so I expect that the effect of Omicron will be tolerable. But it also seems crazy to go from business as usual to running around worried that you have Covid and isolating for a week at a time.

Still, even if we do open up, and Omicron has its way with us, I am being pessimistic and predicting something else down the track.

Yes, minerals and mine owners have a large say in this state. Its a large source of income for the state. It makes sense to keep them open. I was working for a company that worked for mining companies when the pandemic started, and there were shutdowns all over the world and there was a lot of effort put into keeping ours open. Imagine what it would have been like if we hadn't?

It would be nice if the borders open back up for ski season though. I missed last season and it was terrible Although in this case it was generally because NSW was going through its own scares with Delta.

Most schools will be closed soon the way things are going anyhow. Both my kids have at least 6 kids in their class that have it, vaccinated or not. So with direct contact as well some classes are down to half. My daughter had 1 out of 5 classes last Friday because so many teachers have it.
The protocol is all kids have to be tested every 2 days in a class once 1 is positve. Its just not feasible and nobody does it. The parents just have to sign a declaration but not prove anything.
Lots of parents are now trying to get their kids to catch it so they don't have to get vaccinated. One mum was making her daughter that had it lick all the knives and forks and breath on them so they would all get it and be done with it. Worked for 3 out of the 4.

No, my point is that there were statements made by government authorities that vaccination would prevent you from catching COVID. We now know that is clearly not the case and the messaging from the government has been altered accordingly.

So, the question now is what don't we know about the long term effects of mandated booster shots repeated at short intervals?

With the reported daily case numbers being in the tens of thousands, which means the actuals would be well in excess of 100,000 per day since many cases are either asymptomatic or unreported, the vaccination seems to be doing very little to stop the spread. Therefore, should people be forced to take it?
