Thanks all! I'm going to give the 850 a try.

I have a lift 120 that i don't ride because i'm almost sure its deteriorating and just with the flex its a big compromise. In the right conditions its great but its hit or miss. I havent even tried winging it because i know with it being fast and not a surf wing i'd get bored, boost it to the moon, and kill it instantly.

I think with the 120 the flex is alot of what makes it difficult/impossible to ride at my weight. Its not a lift or stall issue it just won't let me pump with anything resembling effort - and i think thats the flex getting me. The RS 1000 was(as Ju_foil said) HARD effing work. The 1000 made me work and would take all the power i could put it. The lift 120 wouldnt let me so much as think impure thoughts while pumping! Having played with some other real HA stuff i think the flex is the issue at my weight for alot of those wings so i'm hopeful the GF solid pre-preg construction will remedy it!

I think the 850 is worth a try atleast. If it doesn't work out worst case scenario I add the 1000 to the quiver.

Make sure you try with both the 12.5 and 14.5 tail. We like the 12.5 best.

on the subject of flex I did try the first generation kdmaui tail and even though I am light I swear I could feel it flexing making for a doughy feel compared to the fixed tail

Blown away. The new 10.5" FTL, on V2 mast with RS 850 HA. I was prone surfing my 710 barracuda and got a 8 for 1 first ever. Nothing like the freaks who go for hours but a normal non athlete Foiler. I found it turns incredibly nice, carry's speed and pumps. Great combo

I used to ride a rsx 1075/975 and an ha850 with a ftl10.5 as my daily setup, but since i shape a downwind board i try differents setup with a gt 2200 and felt good with a long pedestal and a custom flip tip 14.5, but i reed it's better with a bigger tail so i bought a fts 17 and my foil is now f#*?%ing slow and not playfull...did anyone felt the same? May i'll take a ftl14.5 or waiting for an ha fixed tail...how you feel it @pohaku? I know you try both ;)....

The GT2200 works fine with the FTL14.5.
I used this setup for Sup downwind for 12 months. The bigger 17" tails are more pitch stable on the larger front wings, but slightly slower.

Been using different RS wings lately on 1.5 mast and after daily wing switches found the collar connection a bit loose roll wise. Can switch around wings easily by hand without a mallet. I cant find the plastic stickers that came with it so tried a few electric tape cuts on different sizes and shapes but either didnt help at all or it didnt slide all the way in. Could make a solid connection but really tight hitting hard with mallet so not the ideal fit and impossible to remove without the mallet. Is there a trick to find the right spot to cover with a sticker? I read about aluminium tape but hard to find around here.

I sanded down the collar on mine to get them tight on the old masts but the new masts are a hair bigger so the wings didn't seat all the new masts after I did it.

I wouldn't do aluminum cans though it's a corrosion nightmare. Cut some thin plastic from your recycling bin.

When I notice any wobble or looseness on my foils I spray a couple of coats of black epoxy paint on the spline of the mast. I then sand it back a little until it's a perfect fit.

Repeated fittings scrape a little of the paint off so it's very similar to a blueprinting process for getting an exact fit. Whack the foil on. Take it off. Sand the visibly marked bit. Repeat.

The first time I did 4 coats and that was too much. Last time I did two coats and that is also too much but easier to sand to fit. I'll probably go for a single coat next time.

For me a perfect fit is where the foil pushes on by hand and there's about 3mm to the end. A single tap of the mallet gives it that final "snick" and the foil is perfectly set.

It usually takes a small tap to get the foil off although I am happy with a solid belt. Better too tight than too loose.

I haven't worked out yet whether it's the foil or the mast that wears. My normal quiver of wings all feel about the same so I guess it doesn't matter. It's much easier to squirt some paint on the mast than inside the foil. I may give that a go on my least used components when I feel like it.

I've had a couple of bemused comments from people seeing me hitting my foils with a mallet. I quite like it. They're all using impact drivers and stuff and messing with multiple tools. I've just got a Phillips screwdriver and a rubber mallet. Everything goes together easily and I have had zero wear on any screw heads. I bought a stainless steel PH3 screwdriver from Wera and that helps keep the screw heads in good condition.

I have been suffering with this 'play' for years with the 1.0 mast and gl 180,nl 160,190 and with the 2.0 mast with rs 1000,1150 and 850. I had tried everything about epoxy sprays, aluminium can shims, aluminium tape and I was still loosing patience and time when I needed to change wings, till that session that I had forget my toolbox and in a desperate moment I took my surf base wax and put it on!

no more slippery plays for days, even with taking jumps and landings, very easy tap in and out with a single mullet tap. I was so happy that I am able to try different wings in a session, something I was so bored to do cause of the painful process . its a great material to fill all the gaps in the connection.

I have had several gofoil mast over the years and i tap the wing on very firmly and never ever get wobble unless the wing is bottoming out on the fuselage not allowing the wing to seat far enough on the taper. You should never tolerate any movement in this connection. If this is the case then the mast or the wing needs to be permanently built up but wax or even a blade of grass may save your session but is not good for longer. The taper connection is designed at an angle that causes it to lock. The screw is not meant to do much other than stop you loosing your wing in the case the taper wasn't seated correctly. Using wax is not fixing the issue and the wing is actually still moving. A rattle can of acrylic or epoxy applying a fine coat to the taper will fix the issue.

If there is a tolerance in the connection things are only getting worse session by session. Also wing has to work as a one piece with the mast otherwise you can't control your ride. All of my wings had a tight connection with the mast in the beginning but after a while they tend to slip out about one millimeter and put all the pressure on the screw which ,as you correctly said, is placed there for safety reasons.

In addition base wax turns to a very hard filler after the connection and first minutes of use. There is no soft thing and wobbling at all. And again it's a perfect temporary fix for having different wings without sanding or any other taping during the changes.

I just acquired a 17" FTS and got to try it today
There was just enough wind not to struggle (maybe 10 to 12 knots) so I thought I'd pair it with my RS850HA to see if I can wean myself off my lighter wind "guaranteed to get up and stay up" combo of GT2200 and 20" FT
I run a 93cm V1.5 mast for winging
WOW!
My 7'2 x 19" DW board means I can build speed quickly and get up without too much flapping and board pumping. Once up and flying the 850/17 combo was very easy to control pitch wise (stable yet responsive) and I was able to really get into hard upwind cranking turns to smack the small boat swells, general chop etc. Even when scrubbing off nearly all my speed doing these turns, I never stalled/dropped out of the sky and the short stab let me pitch the 850 down quickly to regain speed.
During the lulls it was so easy to pump for 100m or more and I learnt to trust the foil and let it glide with a slower cadence.
I used to see the "good foilers" on small HA front wings and never imagined myself to be able to ride something that looks so minimal, but hey, thank you GoFoil for creating such wonderful wings and tails and especially the fact that they are completely plug and play out of the box, no shimming, no slop, no fuss

With the super narrow board you could be using the 68.5cm V1.5 mast and get up on foil soooo much easier. You won't be missing anything in the bank angle department due to the board width but the gains on low end are dramatic.

I feel that the wax makes it easier to swap foils. I've had no issues so far. Wax makes everything better.

not at all, usually tap in is harder since the wax hasn't take its shape yet and tapping out its far easier than when I had silver tape or any other shims.
with 2.0 mast and rs 850,1000 if I need 2 taps then I need 2 taps out..

Which temperature wax are you all using or does it make a difference?

I have used only base wax so far, since is harder and less sticky than any other temperature ones. water temperature in Greece around 25c.

Sorry for the late response, it's crazy but I have the 850 3-4mm further back! than 1000! I guess it's because is more slippery through the water and has less resistance.
I now ride the rs 600x in the same position! But the more I'm getting more comfortable with its sensitivity and I get more speed it needs further 2mm back than 850 and 0,5 cm from 1000!

I have the 850 & 1000 for wave winging at 65-68kg (depending on dessert), both with FT12.
I love the 850 for the weaker wind waves we have but wish it could turn a bit faster and a bit less lift for bigger waves.
Any thought on a smaller foil? RSX825? RS650?

I am 64kg and for proning i like the 850 best with the 10.5ftl. It turns pretty good and is at its best waist to chest high face for me. 1000 handles chest high much better but without the great pump and glide of the 850.

for winging in bigger waves the narrow span of the 825 might make more sense.

Few sessions in on the 850, v2 80, 10.5 ftl. 220 lbs, prone and ding, I'm a super mean foil reviewer. Kind of an a-hole to the designers but whatever.

super happy with the setup. Nice glide, I can dig all I want on the pump (unlike other HAs I've ridden), good enough stiffness(little wobbly coming from my cedrus aluminum custom setup but that's probably the stiffest foil on the planet), durability meets expectations(got knocked off foil hitting a bunch of crap in the water today and it seems fine)

Similar to the new progression 140- better durability, less refined shape for turns etc. Both have similar good Low end for small HAs but the progression has some voodoo that makes it turn special but I'm huge and can't afford to break foils so durability wins and I'm on the GF

i expected issues with the V2 mast but the extra stability from being more mast back isn't tragic. Riding it fairly true - 1.5 in back. I think having the stab sized down a size helps - I'm riding that whisper the 10.5.

the stiffness and strength of the fixed stab is a huge asset over a bolt on stab. It's better feeling without movement and having broken a few bolt on it's nice not to have to worry. Id love to tune it a hair but I feel like a lot of that can be accomplished by sizing up or down the stab.

The 1075 to 850ha comparison is like comparing red to blue. They are vastly different. At 190lbs, I can pump an 1150 and 850 equally well (which means they are easy) with the primary difference the energy required to get on foil. Both have very good glide. The 1075 is for winging or a heavy guy staying in the pocket. It requires much better technique than I have to pump it. I find the 850ha a bit flexy for winging, but don't notice sup or prone. Biggest tuning advice is trying different stabs. I wish they or (someone here!?) would share their perfect matchups. I've got a 14.5L tail for pumping and small fast (long period) waves, and a 12.5S for slower walled up waves. Switching between the two, the 12.5s is faster (less drag?) and makes both wings less lifty such that I run the mast slightly more forward and feel more neutral. The 14.5L is very front foot lifty such that I have to be careful of over lifting, but makes the glide very long with easy pumping.

the stiffness and strength of the fixed stab is a huge asset over a bolt on stab. It's better feeling without movement and having broken a few bolt on it's nice not to have to worry. Id love to tune it a hair but I feel like a lot of that can be accomplished by sizing up or down the stab.

I will say I much prefer the 850 to the 1075. The anhedral of the 1075 just didnt fly with me and the flatter 850 is nice. Also pumps and glides better and better low end. In fun pumping surf the 1000 is probably a better wing but I can pump the 850 much better than the 1000 so it's a better daily and being well practiced on a foil is important for waves of consequence so I put this as a winner there. Might go back to back with the 1000 some and see how I feel.

the factory fit is loose - borderline unrideable. I hate that foil tape fit and the wax is idiotic. It seems better for someone who has never had an actual tight fit maybe? I sand the flange to get the wing to seat deeper, 1mm at a time for minimal gap. No movement now perfect fit.

Yeah, that's my gripe about the RS range. It's all over the place, it's like 8 totally different wings instead of one wing scaled appropriately down and up!

The 1075 to 850ha comparison is like comparing red to blue. They are vastly different. At 190lbs, I can pump an 1150 and 850 equally well (which means they are easy) with the primary difference the energy required to get on foil. Both have very good glide. The 1075 is for winging or a heavy guy staying in the pocket. It requires much better technique than I have to pump it. I find the 850ha a bit flexy for winging, but don't notice sup or prone. Biggest tuning advice is trying different stabs. I wish they or (someone here!?) would share their perfect matchups. I've got a 14.5L tail for pumping and small fast (long period) waves, and a 12.5S for slower walled up waves. Switching between the two, the 12.5s is faster (less drag?) and makes both wings less lifty such that I run the mast slightly more forward and feel more neutral. The 14.5L is very front foot lifty such that I have to be careful of over lifting, but makes the glide very long with easy pumping.

I like the 10.5l best with the 850 for proning and winging. No going back to 12.5s
