At 62 kg i chose the 1150 other the 1000... because it pumps so much better and it is really surfy... for me it is the HA dream with a mind blowing pitch stability at speed, you can drop steep section with no increase of front foot pressure... even at 62 kg
It is totally balanced with the fts 14'. I will soon try the fts 12' to see the difference.

My current max speed on the RS1000 is 38.7km/h. That's on open ocean flat water with a 3.5m wing going full tilt. I am getting 2 minute/km on a downwind wingding run without really pushing it. I'm waiting on a RS1150 also, keen to see how it compares, extra glide with similar speed will be epic.

Sounds like you need to go smaller on the foil. Never really understood the logic behind putting all the power into the foil over the wing. 3.5 wing is pretty small, but unless you like a lot of front foot pressure and mast back in the box. Then that's awesome if it works.
My personal experience with larger foils and this combo sucked big time, fun going upwind and reaching, but moment I turned off the breeze. Safe to say I earned my stripes as King crash.
Smaller foils and bigger wings always made sense too, you're moving through the less dense fluid with the larger drag creating object. Might need to sail 130-150TWD against gliding in VMG. But that's pretty good fun for me anyway!

Unless you want to ride waves. 650 only supported my 105kg if going at Mach 10 so no chance to wait for a swell toodling upwind. 1000 holds me up really well and turns superbly. All I need

Excellent shot, clearly shows the flow still attached inside the step. If anyone comes across any video of tip out hard carves, please post 'em!

Yah the video is pretty cool as it shows the ventilation on the tips a heap but never past the step

Ok,but i can post pics of Kujiras,Gong's,Gamechangers,SABS etc... breaching a tip and riding on.

I think the Gamechanger was the first one to pull the breaching thing together, no winglets,tubercles or steps needed.

Not saying that the Gofoil steps do not work, or improve matters.
IMHO unloading the tips by design is what makes a foil breach in a civilized way.

Whilst I agree to a point there is a way in which the RS and the steps works to allow the foil to continue being ridden past the point I have previously got to.

As I have always said, stepped or cuffed leading edges are a sound aerodynamic principle in planes. As are fences just less used these days.

Just back from my 1st prone session on the RS1000 FTS14.5 32.5 mast, 4-6 Amos high flyer, very 1st wave was about 100+m rail to rail turns then pumped back to the peak, to me this kind of shows that it's got a wide range of user friendliness, unlike other foils I have tried that take some adjustment to find the sweet spot. my point of reference is the NL160 and Lift 120/170. I would say RS is faster, more user friendly, equally easy to turn as the 120 and I would say 9/10th as much glide. Even so for me it was easier to pump than 120 because of the bottom end that allows mere mortals to pump back up to speed if you miss one or get out of shape for a moment.
I didn't miss a single take off today which for me is unusual, either it's a bit more forgiving on foot position or I was 'on' hahah.

Overall it's by far my fav foil I have ridden. For sure it's going to get better with a few more sessions under my board, Frothing!

Yeah my froth level is fairly high right now.
(Also I'm 70kg, today riding waist high waves.)

As you do, I have been drooling over it this evening, few more thoughts on it, compared to NL it's a noticeably thinner foil section and unlike NL (but like the lift) there is concave in the bottom surface. I think in general the concave will become a more common feature because we get more lift with less surface area, I think this means more form drag, less skin friction, but frees up the foil in roll. Combine that with the steps and it's a pretty cool design. Rich I think you pointed out that they have shortened the fuse at the foil end so the mast effectively sits further forward and probably helps loosen it up a bit too.Can't wait to get some more sessions on it prone and wing, yyiieeww

We finally had some waves here (4-5 ft at 14s). And the GT1250 has been perfect. The slightly slower reaction time, predictability, user friendliness, and pitch control of the steps over the NL160 were welcome in the faster conditions. Couple this with the lower stall speed and it is an improvement over the NL... whether it is a big enough change to be warrant a move is up to you but I did sell my NL160.

On a different note, what tail are people running with their 1300 in surf? I took it out and once pumped up on foil, it is crazy fast! Was squirrelly with my KD13.5 so feel like I may need to try one of my other tails or take it out when it is a bit smaller.

When I was considering the RS1300 I contacted KD and asked which tail would be best to pair with.
his reply was the 11.5 Blunt with short pedestal. He said that the guys helped developing this foil on Maui
felt it's the best tail. The context was DW settings though so not sure how it translates. He did not offer
reasoning whatsoever.

I would try the 14.5 L at a start. I know the guys running the pnl here seem to favour the long tail - not sure why though. I would go the 14.5S personally as it will work really well with the GT's in the surf.


JU Foil yep the negative camber on the bottom of a wing definitely helps in running a smaller wing. Would be a small drag penalty at higher speeds depending on the severity of the camber. Transport category planes run a supercritical wing shape;

I can see aspects of this in the new range.

I wonder when or if we will ever see aerodynamically controlled slats. Imagine a RS650 that when slow self augments to increase the camber and chord of the foil to perform like a 1000/1150 at slow speeds. Shut up and take my money.

I will not be SUP foiling my nl160 again after my first session on the RS1000. The RS is so responsive, controllable and begging to be ridden hard. I was coming to a shoulder and made a hard u turn, I would be doing an arcing turn on the nl. I was using the fts and 32.5 mast.

I managed my hardest and most aggressive turns and bumps off the foam yesterday to date. The 1000 really is awesome.
Took the 650 out today for about 5minutes of weed filled winging horror. Shame it was so weedy cause the 650 is awesome.

I had my first go on a HA925 over the weekend on the wing ding. I'm happy with my decision to jump ship and get a RS1000. Both awesome foils, but for my body weight I'm loving the low and high speed range on the RS1000 when winging.

Finally got some good news. Whilst we can't leave WA I now have a 12.5S and a 1150 to ride.
Can't wait to get these wet. Super interested in the 1150/12.5 and 1000/12.5 combo on the prone as well as the 650/12.5 combo for the wing in waves. Should be MINT.

3 complete breaches to ride out.

Thanks Clement, that's actually quite helpful for me to see. Picturing myself riding those waves, I suspect any less lift and I wouldn't have made that connection. For my skill and the waves I generally ride, I fear the 1000 may leave me wanting. For winging in decent wind and for bigger wave days, I betcha the 1000 would be unreal....but for average joe every day I expect the 1150 will be a safer bet. I think the decision is made.

I had the same dilemma and i had the money for just one front wing. If i was only winging i would have chosen the 1000. But for prone foiling the 1150 is my favorite. It is much more efficient in weak waves like we have here (french brittany). Sometimes there is only knee high waves, and with the 1000 i couldn't do anything... Whilst with the 1150 i can handle shoulder to head high waves... and it turns really well!
