not really, sponsored riders change brands all the time depending on deals and money. My guess is Gofoil never really paid much so it was only a matter of time before some brands start throwing some money around and start grabbing any rider putting out good content. James is a good guy so good on him but I don't think it 100% means Axis is better than Gofoil or vice versa.

BTW I don't really know who is sponsored of who or what anyone gets but a good rider changing brands usually won't happen for free and over the years I have seen many riders take a good deal to ride **** gear( not saying this is the case here) but I just would not read to much into it on the sponsored rider thing.

I would be trying to snap up a bargain with his gear.
Yep the good guys are now being offered $$ to ride gear. Awesome for them that the industry has grown to a point that can happen.
I wouldn't take it as a sign that other gear is better. My 2c

I can't see a downwind focused rider not being with a brand that has a lift 120 equivalent.

Agreed at this stage it is the missing piece to the GF range.

They did do some but they never made it to market for some reason

Oh by no measure am I trying to start something other than just asking a question.
But seeing someone of his caliber still on it for such a period of time. Then to see them change, you just need to ask why?
As Jacko pointed out with his industry experience, it happens and don't look into it. And I won't!
There are guys starting to pop up in the wing world tour with Gofoil, and no men with Axis yet. So that's another thing to refer to!

That sounds like a new biz deal in the works, but it's surprising no announcement since. Does raise the question if he is chasing new/different gear vs getting paid? Chasing the $ is understandable, but if he's chasing the gear, that's a pretty big blow to GF in seeding doubt. I believe his social media presence has been a single major driver of the new popularity of the new gear. When I see him doing what he does, it gives me hope on what's possible. That potential is bolstered by the user reports on here. But it's fragile, as rationally I know that JC would rip on anything and I really don't know who any of you are and I haven't actually witnessed your claims. So, enticing me to spend a few $000 to chase a new dream has a complicated psychology ... as much as I hate to admit it, social media influencers are at the top of that pyramid.

One of my frustrations over the past year has been seeing buddies get insane glide, mainly on axis gear, and I am winging side by side but not feeling it. I really REALLY want to feel the same froth as this guy:

"This is ridiculous, you can ride nothing with this thing".

I remain stoked on aspects of my GF gear, but I've not really felt that glide forever feeling. I am so much hoping the RS with FT tail is the answer .... desperately seeking that "holy crap WOW".

The great thing about the RS line is it has great glide but also turns in good sized waves that is why I changed from Armie HA gear. Glide is not everything for me. Demo the 1150 with the fts tail it is pretty impressive.

Yeh a lot of speed and glide say on downwinders to link next swell line is generated by sharp turns.
Unless you want to kinda of stand there like you were on a SUP and ride straight with slower carves. Depends on what you want and what you are doing. There's always a compromise.

John I take it your 1150 hasn't arrived?

Definitely a shame re JC, but where one leaves another arrives. Who knows who will replace him but I'm sure they will rip.
Perth Stedlick recently did an hour and 3mins on one wave with the PNL, glide is there if you want it. As Eppo says everything is a compromise.
I've always said this post is for the mere mortals and my comments reflect my choices. Personally I would prefer a slightly harder pump that turns incredibly, so I choose the 1000 over the 1150. However I live somewhere with swell and lots of it. If I was in Perth the 1150 would be my go to.

I just switched from 3 years with Axis back to Go Foil. The Axis ART wings especially in the larger size have large wingspans to accomodate for narrow chords! Yes they may have good glide and be efficient but they are limited in their mobility and agility in changes of direction. Axis guys might be surprised by how well they turn for their spans but they still don't turn that well. From my experience wide wingspans are less responsive to inputs and far from nimble especially downwind when you need to react quickly when opportunities present themselves. Im loving the new Gofoil wings, the RS 1150 is insane, its blows away the Axis stuff.

I have been riding the 1300 for a month now, I used to ride the NL160 with my back feet behind the mast, but it does not seem to be the right way to ride the new RS1300.
Perhaps, it will feel different with the smaller sizes.

@ Pacoo that is a massive change in foils. Yep the sqcm are close but the shape and foil is massively different. If you are riding the 1300 in the same box position yep you will need a heap more front foot to counter the lift. It should in theory trim out the same way and have the same foot pressure once dialled in.

Had the 1150 out today. First sesh not so good was running out of glide. User error totally. Second sesh pushed the mast forward and high tide helped heaps, one of the best sup foils i have had. The 1150 likes to be turned to generate power and stay at the top of the swell. Once i worked out the sweet spots it was super fun.

Rad Hilly, just got mine, test flight today ... keeping expectations low as I expect some adjustment time needed. But hoping for the big stoke.

It is 105 cm.
I'm mainly sup foiling and winging, weight 81 kg, boards aviator 6,0, sup 5,6 custom(sup), Kt 5.4 (wing). Allow me to say first that I learned with a 2400 cm 2 fanatic, and I have been using the GL240 as a my small wave-light wind wing. I'm also using a 14 cm custom cut flat tail and a short pedestal.
Then, for me turns very very good. Off course the faster you go the harder to turn, but still can do very good turns on it, although for me pulling out the tip passing the step is the limit.
I will be testing it for downwind today. Hopefully.
I'm surprise that there is no mention about the 1300 in this chat, because I'm super stock with it; this thing glides for ever. It's been permanently installed in my mast since it arrived, and I'm not planing remove it until waves are well over 1,5 meters.
That said, I'm ordering the 1000 for the good. days.

First try with 1150 was pretty rad. Maybe not a great test day as it was a rare spot and excellent conditions, where maybe any foil would be great. The 1150 did superb. Some of the longest and fastest sup foiling waves I've had yet. Felt slippery and fast, but also solid and dependable and locked in. Not much of a turning day but felt good.

I had a couple times when I wasn't paying enough attention in flats where I came off foil, but was able to get back up wirh pumping. No 2 for 1 attempts but

a few good flat water runs after kicking out.

I think it's a gooder. Prone session will be real test. Stoked. Thanks for all the advice and encouragement.

Went winging on the 1150 yesterday.
Holy **** it's awesome. Glide was amazing super fun to turn and easy to get moving on a 48l board and 5.5 GoFoil S wing in 12kts.

Can't wait to do the first DWer on it

Test session #2 for 1150. Again not optimal conditions, a quick hour pre work session, just barely catchable prone (1-2 foot unbroken swells down the line). But maybe that is a good test actually, everyday real-world constraints vs a perfect day. RS1150 with KD 13.5 tail.

It performed great in every way. In listing pros/cons, I can't think of any cons. I was able to pop up on foil easily and stay on foil in nearly nothing waves . Never came close to losing lift. Foil felt "slippery", noticably less drag/friction and faster than NL160. Turns quick and easy, felt locked in and stable. Pumping was semi-wow, easy glide, fast, more forward propulsion than I am used to. I didn't make any 2 for 1s but I pumped past 1st wave to 2nd for first time ever...that bodes well. With better technique and fitness, I am pretty sure this one's going to pump me all the way back outside. STOKED. More testing to come in next few days, hopefully some surf for the weekend.

I've gotten and have been playing with the 1150 a little and I'm not as enamored. It pumps better than the 1000, sure, but not enough so that I'm back at "infinite" pump like I was on the kujira 1210. Maybe time, and and end to wetsuit season, will fix that.

It's probably an excellent middle ground in reality, a one wing quiver for someone who hasn't ridden the 1000(for whom it would feel like a weapon compared to a cruiser like the kujira 1210 or a 1300 pump racer. And maybe for someone smaller(I'm 220 lbs) it would be a real cruiser but I haven't found the pump pump glide cadence that would usually let me go the distance.

It's just kind of in the middle for me, jack of all trades, master of none. I kind of always want to be on something else.

I think for cruising, the important part is that cadence - pump pump glide. If I can get that little second of break to catch my breath that's the difference between being winded and being relaxed. I'll be more excited when I find that. Probably keep working towards it.

Is anybody using shims in these foils?
I tried the RS1300 in a downwind paddle the other day and could not get up.
On the same day, I could lift an AXIS 1150 a few times.
This was actually my first downwind try, so I guess I should try a bigger foil. Any recommendations in the gofoil line?

Pacoo swap to the GT line. 1400 or 2200 would be an awesome wing. Re shimming depends on the board and the tail. Sunova board and fts tail haven't needed shimming

TME - when I proned the 1150 I found the same. Although I found it easy to pump and once I got the quick blip cadence I felt I could pump for ages and cover heaps of ground. I didn't love it though. However I winged it a few times this week and it did impress me. I was easily put pacing a mate of a GL120 and a lift 120, super easy to transition from locked in speed runs to turning - totally surprised me as it didn't feel that way when I proned it. So I'll go back to the drawing board and give it another go when the swell drops. I could have easily been on the 1000 having fun but the 1150 was a blast. I'm 95-90kg too.


Going to have a run on a 1300 this week for comparison.
