I thought I saw something on my Insta feed recently that was 37kts. I'm likely wrong though.

Well I'm fast become a 850 tragic.


Such an amazing foil. Really versatile. Has none of the HA drawbacks the I have heard of in the past. Insane speed and glide, but the ability to turn even when operating at high speed.

Went out on it in the surf winging again the other day. Best linked turns I've managed yet. Nice projection put in front of the wave for a more traditional bottom turn then back up into the critical part of the wave and repeat. Very forgiving foil too. We know with the steps wing tip breaches are no problem now but given the span of the 850 I'm getting most of the way to the fuse and still recovering - that it until the tail follows then it's game over haha.


For a foil that was designed with DW in mind it is truly amazing how much of an all rounder it is.


I'm going to do a back to back session with the 1000/850/650 and try and get a grasp on what does what.

On a side note managed a new PB towing yesterday on the 650 - 58.9km/h. Wasn't that big but was outrunning a section that wanted to eat me. This from a foil that was happy operating in the high teens low 20's the day before on a wing is mighty impressive.

Max speed is over 500m when pushing it, but all my averages are around 20 kmph doesn't matter what foil or fts/ftl 14.5 tail, I think that is GF built in speed range, would prefer 20-25kn or 37+kmph average speed, maybe the new mast and a tail upgrade will deliver that. Can't race with GF.

I go 25-30 knots kite foiling regularly.

Here is todays speed on the GT-1770 and FTL-17.5 tail with the v2 80cm mast. Flat water. Wind about 15 mph.

That's a fairly significant difference to the GL240 which is roughly the same surface area. I can barely get 19 out of it and for brief moments with the FTL20. A lot thicker of course, probably gets going a little sooner

I own the 850 and 1075. I talked to Alex about the 975. The 975 is a cut down 1075. I think I'd prefer the 975 over the 850. 850 is too high aspect for what I like.

None of those...850, 975, 825, 1075 are anything like the 1000 and 1300. These are thinner, faster, newer designs.

I own 1000 1150 but have been only using 1300 for downwind. My plan is to move to smaller HA wings as I improve paddling up on those faster foils and have the 850 on mind for this ultimate purpose but still not sure about the limitations compared to bigger wings.


I have seen people using the lift 120 for downwind above 10knots so it probably is just a matter of skills limitation. For instance if one can flat start the 850 and keep pumping then should be no problem downwind it in any conditions I guess.

Even for winging I find my 850 quite a bit more difficult to get flying than my 1150 (won't part with either though). Has anybody other than Riggs ever flat started the 850? Being under 70Kg with superhuman paddling skills seem like prerequisites. You're really going to need something like a 1075 with a 10.2 AR.

I'm also finding the 1150 to be just about a mph faster than the 850 consistently, though the 850 out glides it by a fair bit.

I am learning to downwind sup so using old p180 at the moment but use the 850 to downwind with the wing. The 850 will be my eventual downwind wing but for now I must pay my dues with plenty of bay runs and learning ahead on bigger foils first. Enjoy the ride.

Okay legends. I just landed from Maui, I sat with Alex and we did some clips on the wings etc. there's 3 ranges within RS,
Rs - the original 1000, 1150, 1300
RS HA - 650 & 850
RS-X - extra fast 825, 975, 1075

all in stock in limited numbers this week then tons arriving after that.

RS1300 is circa 104.5cm wide not 101cm as published.

Hey guys! I left gofoil a few months ago and have killed a heap of other foils in that time. Guess i need that gofoil strength!

I was previously super happy with my 1000, just wanted a little more pump and glide out of it. Went to the 1075 not realizing there was anhedral and was super turned off by it(i definately like a flatter wing) Also i needed a 75 mast which i'm now grateful they've included for v2

Looking at the 850 now. For bigger guys (100kg) how does the bottom end on the 850 compare to the 1000?

I can't comment for your weight I'm about 75kg, but I can compare to 1075 and 1000, (and the lift 120), the 850 has a lower bottom end and more forgiving pump than all of these. 850's bottom end and glide lets me goof up the pop out off the back of a wave, touch down then build speed again with the pump.

in comaparison I find the 1000 hard work, the 975 rolls rail to rail better but way less glide, the 120 (which is very similar looking if you lay them over each other) does not have the bottom end and feels more 'locked in' in roll.

looking at the foil section 850s got quite a bluff leading edge and a small amount of camber, I think this gives it that sweet bottom end but does not seem to sacrifice too much at the top end.

Breach recovery / small tip breach no worries. Also at my weight it's a great foil for wing in light winds. 850 gets a bit funky when you really load it up at high speed but I don't think that's really what it's aimed at doing.

I wonder what that new RS975 would be like, looks similar to the 1000 but more refined.

Ju_Foil, could you clarify a couple of things? You mention finding the 1000 hard work but the 975 rolls rail to rail better... What 975 are you referring to (maybe the 1075?)... at the end you mention wondering what the RS 975 would be like.

I'm mainly interested in your opinion of the Lift 120 compared to the RS 850, I guess the 120 is a little smaller but otherwise similar in AR and shape. The 120 is significantly smaller than the 1075 which could explain the higher stall speed. Can you think of any other differences between the two (850 / 120)?

I'll try and demo the 150X soon (about 975cm2) but the 120 would be a good size down from there.

TME, while the 850 is amazing for its size it will stall on me at 90Kg with a 14.5 tail a lot sooner than the 1150 (no big surprise) and is noticeably harder to start. No experience with the 1000 but nobody else answered so far. I'm almost sure the 1000 would be still more forgiving on the low end but the 850 is worth the extra effort. Very noticeable difference in glide over the 1150 and still turns very well for me.

Comparing 120 to 850 they are very similar span and outline but the lift runs a lot more camber. So they are probably same lift. Very good, thanks! Doesn't surprise me that the 1075 feels like it has more top end than the 850, I've measured consistently that the 1150 beats it too but just by 1mph on average. Still haven't tried the 12.5 tails with them yet so might change things.

Appreciate the 120 comparisons, clearly from pics folks have their back foot much further back with Lift foils in general, looking forward to the demo.

I have a lift 120 that i don't ride because i'm almost sure its deteriorating and just with the flex its a big compromise. In the right conditions its great but its hit or miss. I havent even tried winging it because i know with it being fast and not a surf wing i'd get bored, boost it to the moon, and kill it instantly.

I think with the 120 the flex is alot of what makes it difficult/impossible to ride at my weight. Its not a lift or stall issue it just won't let me pump with anything resembling effort - and i think thats the flex getting me. The RS 1000 was(as Ju_foil said) HARD effing work. The 1000 made me work and would take all the power i could put it. The lift 120 wouldnt let me so much as think impure thoughts while pumping! Having played with some other real HA stuff i think the flex is the issue at my weight for alot of those wings so i'm hopeful the GF solid pre-preg construction will remedy it!

I think the 850 is worth a try atleast. If it doesn't work out worst case scenario I add the 1000 to the quiver.
