PNL185 has ended up as my main wing foil...the mid range in between gl240 light wind and rs1150 higher wind. Mainly used with ftl14 but recently got the ftl20 and it's got a nice feel, more lift and smooths it out . Though not yet enough attempts to know for sure.

I got the pnl mainly to work on prone pumping. I've had mixed success. One day able to get 3 for 1s, another can barely make it work. I found the difficulties turning it made for tentative riding...might be just me, lack of experience with it.

RE the RS 1300. We discussed this several times in the course of this thread so no need to go back and measure (also pg. 8). The AU website initially had the correct specs but then later replaced it with the table of specs for all wings provided by GF USA which has the misprint.

If I had to choose one wing from the line it would be the RS 1300.

Finally got my lazy ass in the water today.
850 and 1075 both got a run.
Initially I was using a Crisp tail with the 850 as I've had great success towing the 650 with that tail. The way I had it set up it wasn't doing the 850 any favours.

Went in and swapped to the 12.5s. Wow. Completely new experience. Amazing bottom end. Amazing turns and insane glide. Felt like the 1300 on a 70cm mast but it was an 850 on a 40.5! Very natural feel. Very very predictable and easy to turn. Its manners during the turns are awesome, stable and not pitchy at all. Really really stoked with this foil.


1075 with the 12.5s was also great. Less bottom end and less glide than the 850 but really fun. Turns were tighter (probably as I was finding my groove after no winging for 6 months) and I think this may be a lot of fun in the waves.


Overall they are both really really impressive foils. Very happy to have them both in the quiver. I'm not sure it will replace the 1000 but it may encourage me to wing the 650 more - time will tell. One thing of note is just how easily the 850 breaches a tip - it's wide and flat - compared to the 1075 that isn't. I've gotten used to that aspect of the 650 towing so I'm hoping I can do the same with the 850.

Yeah Rich, also loving the 850 more every time I use it.

Interesting experiment a couple of days ago, had a second session with the 850 and the FT-L 20 just 'cuz the wind picked up and it was the only tail I had with. Had already a great session with the 1300/20". At speed I could have put both my feet in my usual front foot position!

It'll work in a pinch but can't recommend the combo

Just received the FTL 17 and paired it up with the PNL today. Felt really good! I've used the 14.5 and 20 and this felt best. Hopefully we'll get more wind soon and pair it up with the RS 1150.

So looking for feedback from experienced riders of the RS1000 and RS1150 winging/prone who have ridden the RS850 and RS1075.

These new wings have been out a while but feedback compared to the existing line of RS wings is non-existent.

How do they compare, are they better/worse, worth selling and upgrading, or is it only a marginal sideways improvement?

GT1400 is a great wing imo for my weight paired with the FTL14.5 makes light wind winging with a 6.5m and a big board very easy. It turns well and have averaged 18kn over 500m with my garmin and top speed of 20kn (not sure how accurate that is).

I've been riding GF most of the year winging and have GT1400/GT1250/RS1150/RS1000 and have been wearing a garmin watch and recording all sessions, flat water winging and all wings have a very similar cruising speed (within a couple of knots) and the smaller ones you can push faster if you try. It's good to have empirical evidence to determine speed difference between different foils and not rely on subjective feelings

I am 65kg + wetty.

I knew you were heavy but my comments were for reference between the wings at a given weight. 100kgs is a lot of weight to ask an 850 to support and not going to work for almost all. There are some heavy weights that ride the lift 120 and for those the 850 will likely perform a lot better. Although Jake in the clip linked above is a big guy and ripping in some pretty small waves he might be the small minority.

1150 is such a magic combination for my 100kg son but as hilly has commented the 1075 is even better by all reports around me.

gofoil has always been the best choice for medium to heavy weights and still is.

I think the 1075 is a GTS really. Feels and looks like a smaller version of the 1400. Works well for me. They are different animals the 850 is aimed at the lift 120 market.

GoFoil are quoting the projected wing dimensions correctly on the website. I measured again and get closer to 910mm projected span and 155mm projected chord. I may need to recalibrate my tape measure. The 1075 has about 40-45mm down curve overall from mid span to tip, the 850 is almost flat.

Hey, thanks for this curve information, it's hard to tell from photos, they said it had more bend in it, and @hilly says it's more like a GT, wonder why they put it in the RS range?

Thought the same. For me it replaces the RS1000/RS1150 and the GT1050 and possibly the GT1250 which I have not ridden.
