The MP shorty tail is my favourite atm, it does imo loose a little bit of pump and drive through turns compared to the KD13 but in small waves really loosens up the 1210 & 980 when shimmed correctly.

Flat shim for 980 (neutral) & negative 1mm for 1210 (more lift), I only shim to get them to turn how I like it.

The KD 13.5 sits differently on the carbon mast/fuse than does the 178 in that it looks to be more negative or the same as putting a 2mm washer under the front screw of the 178. Using the KD supplied shims, I stack a positive (rear screw shim of the 1.5 and .5. for 2.0.)

Performance wise, the KD really helps to add control. With it, the 1075 is much more stable pitch wise, and probably yaw as well, and this allows for easier banked turns. The 178 feels less stable, but faster, especially for pumping. But I haven't really played around with shims on the 178 as I am so used to the KD and just run it whenever the waves are more than tiny.

If you are using the KD for prone or sup in decent waves, it's the call. They do ride big for their size, so the 13 is probably comparable to the 178.

I snipped the wingtips off of my 1440 and there is a very slight exposure of the filler core material (foam?). It's just a sliver but I want to seal it up. Any suggestions? Epoxy? I assume it's necessary to do this?

When i chopped the kujira tail i exposed some foam, for very small stuff like that some layers of superglue will work fine.You can apply many because it dries quick and avoid the hassle of mixing resin.

PS : the tail has PVC core (yellowish) i am supposing the front wing too but if it is snow white make sure it is not EPS.
Superglue will eat it.

I run the standard Takuma Shim on the carbon mast with the 1095, all the way forward on my mast track, 0 rocker. Of course I'm 103 kg, so I need a little extra lift on the low end.

Well is is a hard question, because I'm super confused...

Coming from Unifoil which I still really like (hyper 170/150) because it is super user friendly (the speed stall on the 150 is unmatch for this type of foil) and have good glide. When I tried the 1095 with the right tuned, it felt really good right away, more glide, more speed and better turning than hyper 150 (not as good on the speed stall but not bad). What I like is how fast it is pumping, you can attack the upcoming wave with a good speed. I like also the fact you can push hard on turns, it holds.
The 1095 feels very quick and responsive, more lively.


Also I'm using Axis ART 1099 for DW only, which I love as the speed/glide is just amazing.

So everytime I go back and forth from Axis to Takuma, because of the difference of the stiffness, it takes me a some time to get used to it.

Also I've dealing with lots of issues with my Takuma fuselage. The fus I had was bent, then I I borrowed my friend fus and I used it for 3 weeks, foiling non stop, I was feeling great, perfectly tuned (takuma shim plate and shim under the front screw stab).
But now I'm on a new fus that Takuma sent me and I can't find the same feeling I had so I wonder which one is different...

I just got a Project Cedrus mast so I can use Takuma/Axis/Uni with the same mast to avoid the difference of the mast stifness.


I really wish the fus would be better quality (quality control and quality made !). I don't like to have to play with all those shiming, plug and play should be the way to go.

I'm under the impression that there are two Takuma fuses: Gen1 and Gen2? I have 2 fuses, and on the same mast the front is 7mm lower than the other, and the back is 1mm lower - enough to throw all my meticolous shimming right out the window.

Well it is well known that one batch of fusesage was wrong, the factory didn't make it the right way. Those are too soft, it bend easily.
That is the one I had. But now I have a brand new one and it is different than others, so yea I'm super confused...

I have 2 good fuse from 2021 with me if that can be of any help measuring/comparing. 2 things you can try :- Measure the fuse itself laying on a table, to see the height of the front wing insert and stab insert, I put in as much details as I could there www.instagram.com/p/CW2ylZxIUm7/
- Measure the angle of the fuse once bolted to the mast, and see if that is different from the other one. At some point (2021?) takuma included the ~2.5 degree shimming in the fuselage, but I think since then nothing changed? To be confirmed.

The takuma fuselage, both of them, are made with low quality, cheap cast aluminum. Pretty much the lowest grade aluminum they could possibly use which is pretty sad. Create a groundbreaking wing but pair it with terrible quality accessories.

The takuma fuselage, both of them, are made with low quality, cheap cast aluminum. Pretty much the lowest grade aluminum they could possibly use which is pretty sad. Create a groundbreaking wing but pair it with terrible quality accessories.

I just bought a 7075 aluminum fuselage for my Takuma foil, with short and standard stabilizer mount threads. Mounts directly to Cedrus. Jim Stringfellow made it and it shipped today. Will post my thoughts when I have a chance to ride it. Supposedly MUCH stronger and only slightly heavier than the standard Takuma fuse.

The takuma fuselage, both of them, are made with low quality, cheap cast aluminum. Pretty much the lowest grade aluminum they could possibly use which is pretty sad. Create a groundbreaking wing but pair it with terrible quality accessories.

Actually not true. The standard 2021/22 Takuma fuse is machined - you can see the tool marks. I believe it is 6061 T8, but could be mistaken about the temper. They did have a bad batch which were improperly tempered & hence soft. Even then, in the US anyway there were VERY few failures. That said, in 2022 they have an entirely new QC team to help post CoVid production get back up to spec.

Actually not true. The standard 2021/22 Takuma fuse is machined - you can see the tool marks. I believe it is 6061 T8, but could be mistaken about the temper. They did have a bad batch which were improperly tempered & hence soft. Even then, in the US anyway there were VERY few failures. That said, in 2022 they have an entirely new QC team to help post CoVid production get back up to spec.

Around 90kg

Well is is a hard question, because I'm super confused...

Coming from Unifoil which I still really like (hyper 170/150) because it is super user friendly (the speed stall on the 150 is unmatch for this type of foil) and have good glide. When I tried the 1095 with the right tuned, it felt really good right away, more glide, more speed and better turning than hyper 150 (not as good on the speed stall but not bad). What I like is how fast it is pumping, you can attack the upcoming wave with a good speed. I like also the fact you can push hard on turns, it holds.
The 1095 feels very quick and responsive, more lively.


Also I'm using Axis ART 1099 for DW only, which I love as the speed/glide is just amazing.

So everytime I go back and forth from Axis to Takuma, because of the difference of the stiffness, it takes me a some time to get used to it.

Also I've dealing with lots of issues with my Takuma fuselage. The fus I had was bent, then I I borrowed my friend fus and I used it for 3 weeks, foiling non stop, I was feeling great, perfectly tuned (takuma shim plate and shim under the front screw stab).
But now I'm on a new fus that Takuma sent me and I can't find the same feeling I had so I wonder which one is different...

I just got a Project Cedrus mast so I can use Takuma/Axis/Uni with the same mast to avoid the difference of the mast stifness.


I really wish the fus would be better quality (quality control and quality made !). I don't like to have to play with all those shiming, plug and play should be the way to go.

The MP shorty tail is my favourite atm, it does imo loose a little bit of pump and drive through turns compared to the KD13 but in small waves really loosens up the 1210 & 980 when shimmed correctly.

Flat shim for 980 (neutral) & negative 1mm for 1210 (more lift), I only shim to get them to turn how I like it.

Sorry that was the wrong info, for the KD13" I use a +1 or +1.5 (red Takuma shims) for less lift.

I haven't ever seen an MFC fuselage in person, but it looks pretty similar to the Takuma fuselage. By any chance are these compatible (could you use an MFC fuse/mast with a Takuma front wing)? Is it close enough to modify? Longshot, but they look similar, so thought I would ask.

Obviously the more important differences are hard to see & that is the shape of the mast "pocket". The 2021 mast was beefed up & has a slightly wider cord, so the 2020 fuse will not fit. In addition, as you have indicated the floor of the 2021 mast pocket is also slanted - inducing a slight rake to the fuselage.

I exchanged the fuse to the 2021 one and unfortunately the 1095 moves a lot before screws are tightened, it seems to be a common issue with Takuma...

Had my first ride on the 1095/178 - wow it's a very different riding technique to what I'm used to. Much more back footed.

With the 2021 angle it induces, it obviously has too much nose down on my board.

Where can I buy some plate shims in AU if any ?

Try putting a shim/washer under the front stab screw. Makes the 1095 much more front footed. (Though not better IMO.) If you are used to running a Kujira 980, for example, fairly far back in the track, I find the 1095 can be run a good 1/2" to an inch farther forward. This will also make it less back footed.
