Has anyone ridden the 1440? 1210 is pretty good for me at 95kg, but I'm not able to pump up into catching little waves early like my bigger GoFoil NL190 or 220. Curious to hear people's thoughts about the ride profile of the 1440 in comparison

Mast shim is good - especially in really small shallow sandbar surf-+ earlier lift vs say 1300 which has plenty but slower speed. Plus better pump imho

So the 1300 to me has more early lift no base shim needed. The 1210 has lots of lift but more gradual, granted this in our small Florida surf. So I use the base plate shim on the 1210 carbon old mast. It pumps insane and is fun to ride minus the sharpness. Hope that helps -I'm using the takuma base plate wedge.

Takuma don't reccon the Kujira's need any but I've been really happy the 1.5mm shim - feels really balanced on my setup...both with or without the mast shim.

Yep! To me stock tail sharp and has earlier lift and more more drag. I have been riding riding uni 18" race chopped to 14. Couple of friends recommend. Lucky enough to have Erik ( Progession Project ) as a bud and a foil ninja, got to try before buying. It's a great combo and I shim the tail for our small surf. If it was bigger maybe not shim it.. shimming the front of the stab for slightly earlier in the small stuff.

Guy at my local foil shop says the helium is basically the LOL 1600 shape with kujira style tubicules.

Here's the new Kujira 750 compared to the Armstrong 850 and the new Axis 700 . 3 very high performance wings . The 750 also comes with a new thinner flatter rear wing.

Went head to head axis 980 vs kuruji 1210 today. Man close call, either way its a win but the takuma does get up on foil easier. Axis 980 is faster. This new generation of wings are incredible.

Would you not expect the larger HA Kujira foil wing to get up on foil sooner and the smaller HA Axis to be faster (do these have the same area?)?

The Kujira 1210 is 935 wide 1210 cm2 AR 7.23
The Axis 980 is 980 wide 1324 cm2 AR 7.49

The 980 is bigger than the 1210 and it is interesting that the Fujira gets up on foil sooner and Axis is faster.

At 150 lbs/68 kgs, I am riding the 1210 Takuma Kujira on the 75 cm carbon mast below a 95L board and a 5m wing. I ride bays with 1-4 foot wind swell in 12-30 knts. I am interested in the Armstrong HS1550v2 as a replacement foil due to the very sharp and dangerous wing on the Takuma Kujira. Some riders are sanding down their Kujiras I can read in posts, but I like what I see in the Armstrong build quality online, and the wing looks a lot more reasonably shaped in terms of safety without having to modify the kit. Does anyone have input comparing the two foils? If so, is the Kujira have performance virtues over Armstrong that would make it worthwhile detuning those sharp edges? Also, for my weight, is the HS1550v2 a good size for light (>12 kt) to moderate winds (20-30 kt)? Thank you for your advice.

After couple of days testing this is how I'm riding the 980 & 1210 . Ended up 7mm shim 980 , 3mm 1210 , it had stupid lift with the 7mm wedge . Need a smaller tail for 1210 as well , it's 930 wide and feels big . It's a huge jump from the 980 to the 1210 like going from the 1300 to 1600 LOL bit of a handful at first but incredible glide and pump . Conditions were really bad so not too much hard carving turns going on so school is still out if the 1210 is still a surf wing . The turned up wings tips are stupid sharp , I'm definitely dulling the tips .

Piros, can you advise me on how to dull the tips? Did that affect performance in your opinion? What did you use to dull the tips? Thank you for your advice.

Hi dpr, I dulled the winglett tips, back edges of both front/back wings & traling edge of carbon mast with a sanding block and some very fine (wet/dry) sandpaper.

Has had no effect on performance imo.

Dulling the tips is easy. Took about 10 minutes with fine sandpaper on a small sanding block. My tips are now about half the size with nice rounded leading and trailing edges. And I sanded the back edge of the foil. For the trailing edge, you don't want it rounded, you want it squared or else it will whistle. But easy enough to do with a sanding block.I don't know the armstrong line well, but I have heard complaints about tip-breaches on some of the wings. The takuma wing can breach tips no problem without throwing you off.

Awesome. Great detailed information here. Also, it is encouraging to me to hear that the Takuma handles the tip beaching well (and that perhaps I will be more satisfied in this respect with what I am using over the Armstrong). Thank you for the post.

Fu/%$# tragic really, I finally found gear that did exactly what I wanted to do. Couple guys are assembling a dive team as it it 20-40 ft so we'll see.

You snapped all the mast track bolts and dropped the whole rig ,or just lost your KD tail ?

Mast track bolts snapped. I had rammed my setup into a sandbar at high speed a few days before. When I got out yesterday I started pumping away and it was like a two phase thump thump. Gone. No luck today.

Whoa that amazing, I would have thought the tracks or mast base or board would break before the bolts.Bugger you haven't found it , I remember another guy who lost his foil and it turned up a week later washed up 3 beaches away , so there's still hope ,I guess it depends on how buoyant the rig is.
