Anyone tried the Kujira 178 back wing yet & could compare to the KD 13"

so what's the deal with the helium wings? just cheaper, with a couple different wing options?

I've heard a few times. A mix of a lol1600 with a kujira, more of a beginner friendly construction.

Very good tail , for towing we have now swapped back to it & not using the KD . It just suits the 750 & 980 . Just over all much smoother and more control at speed .

Hey can anyone through some comments or review type thing on the 1440 please? It's mentioned a few comments up, but not much info/performance stuff.

I've used the 1440 for winging. It feels very much like the 1210 and 980 -- smooth lift onto the foil. IMO it's a beast for light winds with a big wind wing and it seems to pump through lulls without any issues. Besides the Kujira foils I've only used the Slingshot i84 and i99 for winging. I find the Kujira foils easier to get on foil and fast. For me, and what I'm used to, the 1440 is a monster upwind and has a surprisingly slow stall speed, which I wasn't expecting. For a foil wing with a relatively small area (sq. cm.) I'm very happy and a little shocked at its light wind performance, especially the low drag, which must help with the quick smooth lift. My i84 and i99 are gathering dust -- I'll have to give them another try just to confirm the differences, especially in drag and stability. I think I've been spoiled.

Tried out MMan's 1440 briefly...smooth rider. But in a rare no-booties session, I kicked the foil underwater when swapping boards. Bit of a gash on foot, first time that's happened in years foiling .... those wingtips are sharp, beware! I have gofoil NL wings, they are sharp too, but pointed up, not down, maybe less likely to contact? I filed mine down a bit, lose 1% performance maybe, but if feel it was worth it for safety.

I sanded down the winglets on my three Kujira foils -- it didn't take much to dull and round the edges -- I didn't notice any difference in performance. The winglets on the 1440 are pointed down while the winglets on the 1210 and 980 are pointed up. I've made contact with my shin with the winglets and so far no issues (here's touching wood).

I sanded mine pretty good,but kick any foil hard enough without booties and you will get cut.On the way back in the board deck looked like the chainsaw massacre :)

Yikes! I rode a wave in and then stepped off my board right onto my NL160 winglet--thankfully I had booties on but it still hurt like crazy...

Hey anybody have any experience with warantee and takuma? my used once 1440 had a piece break off the tubercle and you can see an air bubble in there.
Zero impact in anyway whatsoever.

Yeah warranty is "A" service who did you buy it off , just take it back there for them to look at but have to say that does look like it hit something. Regardless it's a very simple repair , just log a claim and see how it goes , you are also right could be an air bubble .

Shoot, always wanted to invest in the kujira but the winglets scare me. My friend has the gofoil with the winglets and it sliced his foot to the bone. I was wondering how many injuries happened with the takuma.

I'm probably gonna pull the trigger and get a 1210 but definitely going to sand down the winglets before taking it in the water.

That was the only reason I got off the Kujiras for surf and ding is the sharp tips , got he scars to prove it . Got a nice slice from both the 980 proning and 1210 dinging but have to say still 2 of the best wings around and still tow on the 750 & 980.

Piros, I own the repair business on South Vam Island here so that would make me the resident expert lol. I can fix it yes, but with the $ I just spent on it I want one without the air bubble. The good thing is I took pics and there is literally not a mark on it, other than the chip. I know all the other comoanies have you cut in half and get you a new one- we'll see.

What the hell, while we're at it here-What is the deal with the mast shimming? It would be nice to hear from somebody actually in the know. Was the first generation set with a negative Angle of Attack(top of mounting plate compared the level of the fuselage)?

First generation ALi mast to fuse are 90 degress needs a wedge or shim for the Kujira, the 2nd generation Ali mast ( its wider ) has an angle built in to the Fuse to incresae the angle of attack on the Kujira so no shim or wedge required. The Carbon mast is also at 90 degrees so needs a shim or wedge which the new ones come supplied with . The shim or wedge packs the back base of the foil plate on the board ( gives more lift) . When we tow on the 980 or 750 we actually reverse the wedge to get less lift , it lets us maintain higher speeds through critical sections .

Old Alu masts & Any Full Carbon mast will need mast plate shimming for the Kujira foils.Thick side on the back.
New Alu mast does not need it.

My shim for Wing&Prone on the 1210+Carbon Mast is:
-2mm thick at front screws
-7mm thick at back screws
-Screw spacing is 17cm

Happy with it, wings and prones nicely.I only surf very small to around eye high waves,no towing.

My prone board is a Gong Matata 5.0 with zero rocker at the foil box.
My main Wing board is a Naish Hover Ultra 85l S25 (5.2), this one might have a tad of rocker but very slight,same shim works nicely on both.

I have sanded the wing tips and trailing edges, when i got cut it was by a trailing edge not a wingtip.Any foil would have cut me,big barefoot kick...the contusion hurt more than the cut itself.

The 1210 is by far the most fun an addictive foil i have tried.Superb balance of performance,easiness and playfulness.
Don't worry about the shimming and sharp factory edges too much,both easy fixes.

I have the latest generation Aluminum mast and fuse. I will throw some fuel on the fire and add that I strongly prefer 2 deg of shim in the baseplate. Without it, it has way too much angle of attack - the nose of my board is angled down while I'm flying. It feels really weird and catches a rail in turns more often. I put two of the wizardhat shims in with the thick part in the FRONT to mellow out the angle of attack and it rides wonderfully.

Also, I found the 980 wing seems to have a higher angle of attack (rides more nose down) than the 1210. I can get away with 1deg of shim on the 1210. But 2deg is best on 1210 and 3deg would probably be best on the 980 (don't have three shims though).

at the end of the day, a lot of this is personal preference - and very importantly depends on the amount of rocker in the tail of the board!

Haven't tried the 1440 so can't comment on that one

The 1440 is a riot. It turns amazing for such a wide wing and glides forever. I actually picked up the 980 from the local shop, then went back and swapped it f the 1440. I'm stoked I did, my Axis 880 takes care of my ripping wing.

I tried prone surfing the 1210 today with the stock base wedge and tail shim and found it had too much lift for my preference. Felt heavily front footed, I had to shift my stance forward. I'm 180lbs, about 82kilo. Rode chest to shoulder high in "punchy" surf. (Should have went with the 980 but wanted something for tiny surf)
Felt a little better without the base wedge and pushed the mast back quite a bit. should I try and reverse the base wedge and take off the tail shim? Looking for something more even footed.

Yeah I wasn't a fan of the 1210 for the prone way too much lift for me but plenty of guys your size love it . To reduce lift reverse both the wedge on the mast plate and tail.

Imo you should have been on the 980 or 750 in those conditions & this could be why the 1210 felt too front footed.

It will be interesting to hear if you can shim it to get it right in those same conditions though.
