That is what I was that thinking! Obviously the shape is right and material hard enough so just need to cut it down to fit.

How did you measure it to be the right depth to fit the space at the top of the box?...

I think you may have to reshape on the extremities too. But definitely stronger than wood (plus the holes are already there once you've popped the inserts ou)t.

Still thinking it may be worth fitting a very thin leash to it.

Can you imagine hitting a shark with one of them foils. Ouch!!!

Is that a custom flange made by Horue? I am wondering about getting an aftermarket flange made for the Neil Pryde Alu foil some how....maybe welded on?

The Zeeko alu foil has a flange which is a really good idea to help protect the fin box.

I got the Carbon flange installed by the local magician. Very neat job :)

How critical is the board design for a dedicated foil board?
Doesn't seem like the board would get hammered long term if the plan is to be out of the water - perhaps crash proof it a bit for the first sessions.

Interested what those already foiling think - could you learn and have fun on pretty much any board roughly the right size?


Accepted foil board width seems to be about 80cm, length about 230?
If starting with a blank slate would you keep the tuttle box in the current position or move it forward?

I'm half thinking about knocking up a hollow plywood board.

Zeeko are offering an adapter to mount their plate to a Tuttle as in that pic.
The new Sun7 Zeeko foil board due at end of march has 2 US boxes either side of Tuttle box to mount foil plate.
Zeeko do not trust Tuttle boxes for windfoils.

Where and which to buy?

I am quite keen to buy one of these toys, but which one to start out with??? Al sounds a lot cheaper but will it feel slow and cumbersome after a month?

I can't even find the NP foils on their website and they already have comps on Europe so they must be released....

Not promoting a brand or brands, just from first hand experience, if you'd like alloy straight away in either deep tuttle or twin mast track type, try:

if, however you're after carbon, try F4 (now NP licensed carbon foil), Horue (always a fantastic option), KFA (kitebrand with high end options) and Moses foils from Italy, lots more brands coming onto the market. Choose what suits "YOUR" needs, not the marketing. Foil with fun and safe. If you're interested in additional off site reading try "Australian Foilers" on FB a Public Group aiming to help :)

You can be pretty safe at not feeling slow on a good Alloy foil. And also look for options of wings that are available for the foil of your choice.
Windfoils now available same price as the Green&White kitefoil.

Nicolas from Zeeko doesn't believe that the Tuttle box is strong enough.
inserts or parallel US boxes are good.
the Zeeko windfoil is a plate mount and there is an adapter to use a deep Tuttle box. But this system spreads load away from the box.
In early pics of the Windfoils there was a Tuttle head but it would be safe to say that testing proved it to be a problem.

Not just plastic bag, even a bigger jellyfish can produce a nice catapult.

I have hit plenty of large
jellies here in Perth where the big ones can get up to a foot in diameter
with no issues, they either slide off or end up in 2 pieces..and thats at rel slow speeds
15-20kn

Yep no issues with jellies for me either and also have had some sessions here in the swan river where there has been a bit of weed around, and yes I certainly did have to clear the foils on occasion but the small bits of weed definitely didn't make me crash

I think that the wings tend to run under any floating weed for the most part.
