something neat is coming up for the end of the year.

hard to explain with my poor english : imagine a very small windsurf (1.30/1.40 m traditionnal build) board with an inflatable contour being added

Foots straps, mast track and tuttle or /deep tuttle box (all in the rigid part) to attach a normal fin or a foil.


And there you have it, a SUP/windsurf semi inflatable foiling board that can also be used as a classic windsurf or sup (ideal for beginners)
definitely would make travelling easier too !

couldn't get the foil in the water cause it was too windy, but all my mates were asking to see it, so I made a quick "unveiling" video for them :

The music and unzipping, made me reach for the lubricant oil

I hope protection was used in the making of the Vid

Wow foils have come a long way. Very different now than they were in my day. Only $20 and would only last the weekend

Semi inflatable seems the way to go.
Pair this foil combo with a decent performance foldable rig like RRD's

know this post was about foiling, but you had to mention the RRD airwindsurf
what i find odd is that it is rated as 4.5 to 7.5 when it is 150 litres and 80 cm wide
that's 8.5 sail boarding for me - cannot support @ mast base ??

cannot imagine how "board" could support a foil either

I don't see any mention of the airwindsurf in his post, he's just saying that a foldable rig would be a good combo for light wind (and to travel I might add)

First attempt? So how would you rate it? Was It worth it? And what did you buy, the prize variance is really high.

How would i rate it? - Great fun,difficult ...exciting heart in the mouth stuff when you are fully clear of the water, quiet,eerie and smooth...
Was it worth it?- absolutely! The difficulty is part of the attraction....
what did i buy?- horue Vini light wind and cruise wings

The learning curve at the moment is slight- winter here is inconsistent at best... had a good 'flight' today tried a few things, found mast foot forward really helped stability and allowed me more time to control trim via sheeting pressure.
The seabreezes here will start to slowly trickle in by the end of the month and hopefully more water time and more consistent wind will see the learning curve steepen.

first attempt with my new foil yesterday (I'd previously demoed a taroa)

Bought a Manta 2 by "thewindfoil"

Had sourced an old hypersonic 111l, which everyone agrees is a great board for foiling.
Except the fin box had been modified by PO, so on the first flight the foil just ripped it open.....

Nevermind, went back to the beach where I borrowed an even older Thommen Dunckerbeck edition

back on the water and managed to fly 100m by 100m.

Impressions :
exhausting, all muscles on alert
bloody scary, you brain keeps sending panic alerts
soooo exciting !
so different : no noise at all, no chop

No regrets on the buy !

Advice : booties/leggings/impact vest and maybe helmet for the first few sessions

I'd like to welcome the new boys to the RAF, it's a hell of a ride and pretty exciting. Your first solo results in lots of bruises and cuts but it's so much fun, wait until you start trying fully flying jibes! that is me in my avatar from quite a few years ago..
i would describe myself as proficient to advanced.
i am in my early fiftys and not all that fit..
i would say if you can plane,water start, gybe then you have the skills to get foiling.
its not hard to get up on the foil, it's just hard to maintain constant level flight.
i have foiled 6 times now in patchy light winds with a 5.6 wave sail so quite a bit under powered.
there is a fair bt of tuning to get the set up right- mast foot posistion,correct sail size then the rear wing
or stabiliser has pitch adjustments as well to tinker with.
As roo mentions the foiling gybe is the tricky bit, I recon I am a couple of sessions off that yet.
As for bruises and bumps I have been lucky, no crashes other than a fall on a slow gybe and hitting a sand bank at slow speed.
i have had a dozen windward nose dive landings,but none have thrown me off yet, the board I have is the tiny 110 and it haves
a lot of area and volume in the nose thus allowing me to survive, as it just pops up like a cork.

Hey GL, Foil plugged into an Atom? That'd make it an 'atomfoil' what did you use...didn't think there was any that suited Power Box's?

There is when you make your own powerbox adapter for a kite foil in your workshop!

Ahh clever ! Is that even an Atom? And is that the Sling Shot Foil system (3 lengths) ... Can you make me an adaptor that at I can use the foil on both my Atom and my Kiteboard? in fact why stop there..I'll plug the thing into my SUP and give it a crack also! A Multipurpose foil, marketing genius!

keen to hear from anyone that's tried foiling on both Kite and Windsurf ...I'm thinking the Windsurf version has to be easier than kite, I'm having visions of me getting lifted on the kite as the board flips over exposing the foil !

Was that your first go GL or have you been in secret training on a remote foil Island off the coast of 'foilmauihawai' land?

The Manta 2 is about 1K US / 1300 AUD versus the Horue which looks like about 2300 AUD. Does this sound right?

yes 1115 usd if you buy the covers and extra tefgel syringe

The mast and fuselage are made of alloy, hence the price difference (though not sure if carbon justifies such a price difference)

Will be interested in the durability. I think 1115 is much more palatable than 2300. I could happily do that. Suppose it depends if I would be replacing it in 1 or 2 years though.
