Psychojoe, you did this, and you knew the rules, so why would you then complain so much about your rights? Knowing that the rules were in place before you moved? I wasn't happy about losing a lot of money either, but plenty of people had it worse.
Nope. Wrong again. The "rules" changed.
As many "rules" were not directed by the CHO,, they were simply arbitrary anyway.
Oh, we must have lived through a different pandemic then.
For me, I had the misfortune of flying home for a few days in Feb 2020 to get a few things from my house and make sure it was secure. At this point Covid was on the news 'in China' but nothing had really happened.
In retrospect I would have been better off to sort everything else out, as shortly afterwards, March maybe, there were border restrictions and my company was told to work from home.
I would have to work it out, but it was a long time before I got permission to 'return to WA', i.e. leave and come back. I did this once and came back to home quarantine.
After that it was like a lottery with different states announcing restrictions based on neighbouring states. It really wasn't that hard to follow though. Rules would change based on cases that were appearing and apparent risk. If I could follow it and work out how to do it, it couldn't have been that hard.
If you couldn't see the intent of the restrictions and how to get back to WA, you weren't paying attention.
I have to say though, the other states were a bit more open than WA, but that's explainable because there is far more interaction on the east coast.
Would I have moved to WA and assumed I could go back to a vacant house in another state in the middle of a pandemic? Nope. That would be very optimistic.
I remember at one point having to decide if I were going to risk driving through Victoria to get from NSW into SA. SA was not allowing people in from Victoria, but were allowing an exception if you drove through Victoria from NSW and only stopped for fuel or food. The only other option was via Broken Hill. Stupid me, I went via Broken Hill just to make sure.
SA Police were actually pretty good though. They had their own systems of approval, but even they admitted that they wouldn't know until the time whether you were allowed through.
The important part for a lot of people was that SA would allow you in, but WA would only allow you in if you hadn't been in any of certain areas in the last two weeks. So, a lot of people stayed in SA for two weeks to ride out the period, and then went straight into WA.
