Okay, this is a conspiracy I can believe in.

Is PM33 actually posting links and the system is blocking them due to past misdemeanors?

Is PM33 thinking he is posting a link but he doesn't know what that means to post a HTML link?

Is my feed being filtered so that I never see links from PM33?

Is the universe conspiring to make me think I am crazy by PM33's links appearing as just normal text but everyone else sees actual useful interesting links?

Forget that junk! How fast does a piston in my engine move?? If I rev it at 5000rpm and the stroke is 75mm, how fast in KPH is the piston moving?

I find it amazing as it can do it standing still and only minor vibrations yet in the engine there are 6 of them all moving at the same speed.

Don't get me started on how little oil is used in reducing the friction of the piston against the bores. It's witchcraft I say!

But that would be an average speed at constant revs. And, it isn't that simple because the piston is reciprocating, so its speed is not a constant and the answer therefore also needs a second part of the question to be asked otherwise it is a nonsensical question..

Me-thinks we have been here before.

I recall the debate was trunkated by PM33 when somebody asked something along the lines of :

"well, if the earth is stationary then how fast would the sun and moon and stars that we can see in the sky have to be travelling to orbit around the earth."


I will ponder this next time I am on an aeroplane, sat still while sipping a glass of water, whilst also travelling at 500mph.

I might also ponder why we working in mph.

I think it's time we discussed the problems with gravity. Is the turtle continually barrel rolling through space to keep us centrifugally pinned to the disc?

Average piston speed has an aerodynamic maximum of about 27 m/s. So top piston speed halfway down would be a bit less than double. Maybe 160 km/h? Which doesn't seem much given that tennis serves are faster than that. So maybe I'm wrong.

And that makes sense. The tortoises have to stand on solid ground to support the weight. They couldn't do that with flippers

^ but Chukwa is flying through space not standing on solid ground. Obviously to fly through space you need flippers to get some lift.

For somebody who is usually really keen on sticking to facts, on this issue you seem to be very lax. Just because some ancient monk made a transcription error displaying zoological ignorance and wrote turtle for tortoise doesn't grant a licence for some fantasist to dream up flying turtles as the basis for the earth.

Not sure what your problem is Mr Milk. Surely you know there's multiple realities, there's room for both tortoise and turtle

I think you are right regardless. I seem to remember all tortoise are turtles but not all turtles are tortoise. I think calling a thalidomide tortoise a turtle might be offensive unless the tortoise identifies as a turtle. simples.

I was reading/listening to 'Hail Mary' on Audible. In it the spaceship accelerates at 1.5g for half of the trip and then decelerates at 1.5g for the other half.

Clearly, this is what the turtle is doing and all the other turtles around him/her are doing the same. Who would have thought God was a turtle? (The devil is a tortoise).

I have listened to that audio textbook and you are correct. The evidence is irrefutable, indefatigable an insurmountable (plus several other ables).

The evidence is irrefutable that if you stick your head out of the window of a train travelling at 100 km/h it will be nearly blown off.

Throw a ball up whilst you are hanging out the window of the train travelling at 100 km/h and the ball will not come down in the same place. It will inside the cabin of the train however.

Tortoises should just pull their head in (literally). Turtles are doing the evolutionary flexing...
