hi, I have a proto xover, really like the sail but it doesn't have any of the graphics from the regular sails. where i ride the water is pretty dark and already had a couple of close calls with kiters bc they couldn't see the sail in the water. does anyone know if spray painting some marks on the sail would damage the sail in any way? i was planning on doing one 2cm wide line above the last 2 battens.

Even if your sail was fluor yellow with lights and sirens most kiters still won't see you because they don't look in the first place so not sure if it's worth it.

You can paint a sail (see the Baltz Muller Severne sail at Defi) but I'll probably easier to put some stickers on it. Just clean and dry it well and most stickers will last quite long.

Had my first decent foil session on the Wave 5.3. The sail is noticeably light (at 2.5kg it's 1 kg less than my previous Duotone Supersession 5.0). The wind was 10 to 12 kts and definitely at the lower end of sail's range. Downhaul and outhaul set at -2cm. The sail is very light in the hands, transitions and wave riding are excellent. Looking forward to testing the upper wind range.

Last week I bought a new 4.2 North Wave 2024 rigged with his mast Ultimate 370. I used it at Garda with wind from 4.0-3.7 so very overpowered. I found an immediate feeling, soft sail absorbs the chop of the lake and super stable. You can find the right trim instantly, just follow the measurements indicated and the sail is perfect. The maneuverability of this wing is extraordinary and is also its main feature. My girlfriend tried it with an Ultrakode 65 liters and it was big for her 50kg but she too was impressed by the ease with which she was able to gybe in conditions of such strong wind and very big chop in the middle of the lake. Then we rigged the trimmed 3.7 Xover with its 340 mast and we were able to appreciate the differences. My girlfriend's favorite sail is still the Xover and the Blade, personally I am completely in love with North's wave model.

Picked up one of the SLS/DLAB variants of a Duotone wavesail at the beach today, pretty light.

I had the 3.7 wave but in the end I preferred the 3.7 Xover. The Xover was also a revelation, it's a beautiful sail.
The Xover does not have the surfing qualities of the Wave model but it has a huge range of use. It is a very easy, beautiful sail that should not be underestimated.

The Polish guy mentioned in his video posted on another thread that Severne are the only sails that use carbon rather than fiberglass battens.

How much saving in weight there?

I have not seen or used the Dlab so can't comment. I can only provide feedback on the North Wave compared to previous sails I've used. I personally do not like how monofilm becomes brittle after prolonged exposure to UV and splits over time. My Supersession fell apart in less than 2 years. Laminated fibres in the monofilm help but doesn't stop the monofilm from becoming brittle. I've had to either repair with mylar tape or replace whole panels in all my monofilm sails. I'm hoping the North's have better longevity. Time will tell.

Hi John, I agree with you; I haven't engaged in any pointless competitions over the gear.
I've focused on answering questions to the best of my ability for those who are genuinely interested.

However, This is my livelihood, and I have zero tolerance for team riders who make silly comments to undermine a brand and elevate their own.

I assume you guys are freeride foiling with these ?. My 4.5 flyer is dead a d looking for a replacement. I Bought a 3.9 Flyer-fr, but hate it.
Zero low end power and high aspect geometry feel wierd. My 3.7 Goya fringe has way more power and seems indestructible.

I'm intrigued by the North 3DI light weight in a 4.2 - 4.5 size. Any comparison to the Goya line would be appreciated if you've used those.

How did you like the flyer 4.5? What were you using it for(foil free ride, freerace, waves, etc)? Definitely curious about the 3Di too but too expensive and I have no chance to test them. I also have a Fringe 3.7 so a comparison with the 3Di would be nice.

I was also intrigued and hyped about these sails so I bought a 2024 3.7 have ridden it once for about two hours yes expensive most I've paid for a wave sail I like the way it feels loads up and de powers very smooth I was skeptical about a three batten being able to handle gusty conditions. It's a pound lighter than my Naish 3.7 force
4. Also it rolls up really small while that means nothing performance wise it's kind of nice. The only negative so far is the way they set up the Down haul it was kind of wonky with my extension so I spent more$$$ on the north extension. If you're in the US and thinking about buying find a dealer that has free shipping also the V1's are reduced in price.
Is it head a shoulders better than other sails ? Don't know yet if I was buying Goya I would look at the new banzai surf or the cypher. Yes I have tried a couple of my friends fringes but only wave sailing not foiling prefer
4 batten sails for that.

I can't compare to the Goya, I've only used the North, Duotone Suppersession, Severne Gators and Naish Force 5.
In terms of bottom end, my mates Foil Freaks have better bottom ends but he changes down earlier than I do with the North. I'm 86kgs, I use my North 4.7 in 12 to 18 kts with a 925 mm2 high aspect foil and the 4.2 in 15 to 23 kts.
The sails are incredibly light in the hand and turn off when you turn downwind so are great in transitions and wave riding.
I have the 4.2, 4.7 & 5.3. I will add the 3.7 this year.

A new toy is coming

Are their masts made in-house?

Avanti, Severne, Duotone and now Neil Pryde all have membrane sails. How is North different?
