And you are Kelly Slater compared to some of us.

I always enjoy your Bali blog and have been looking forward to your Taiwan stuff... Cheers.

I still prefer a comp in real waves with all the tactics and timing and good old mother nature .... but...

Thanks mate, I enjoy writing them too. This trip was not as chill as Bali & not as surf focussed. We drove around Taiwan & I didn't even have a beer until 3 or 4 PM some days ...just gotta get through 7 afternoon shifts (4 to go) & I'll start writing. Already edited a video & selected some pics. Should be up next weekend....cheers

Anyone else finding the Keramas comp a bit meh?
looks super fun to surf but unless it's big I reckon it's boring for a comp. Bring back cloud break!

Great looking waves. Bourez has been ripping and the Wilko / griffin heat yesterday was the best heat all year. Worth having a look for those that didn't see it

Good to see the WSL top 20 are all lurkers here in the Greenroom. As soon as we ripped in to them for being boring they got out there and had a crack.
I do like the way Mikey Wright surfs. Something about his stance reminds me of MP or maybe Drouyn.

The plan is to win viewers in middle America. They couldn't give a **** about the surfing audience.

I tried but couldn't watch. 3 scores above 8. Safety Surfing, few top turns then barrell. Everyone Surfing the same plan on waves that look the same.

So much for progression. It's repetitive.

I think the second day was definitely better. The top seeds showed why they are the top seeds. Went for the big airs on the outside, air drop to the barrel. Made for good viewing
Third day the scores didn't really make sense.
Kelly grossly over scored.
Mystery why Kolohe and Jordy didn't progress to the top 8
Another big cross would be no chance to warm up
Julians had to sit for two days for a chance to ride his first wave and the stakes were high.
I know it's what they get paid for but they could do it better.

I think a few in here better suck it up big time.
sadly surf popularity is getting bigger and bigger, and wave parks are a bi product.

chrispy and SP you blokes were all for surfing being an Olympic sport?

It's like playing the us masters at a pitch and putt. It misses a lot of the bits that make a surf comp interesting. We were told it was going to be progressive and high performance. It wasnt.

It's like when they ran the founders cup, even Brazil looked great after it..

I would love to surf it. It looks like heaps if fun. Just found the comp boring. Which may be a bit to do with the WSL scoring criteria rewarding safe surfing.

jordysmith88@shanebeschenabsolutely. I think size equals depth in the barrel and honest my dad can get a barrel in the pool. A barrel in the ocean is highly rewarded because it's hard to predict and hard to come by. But the ranch is predictable and really not that exciting to the viewers after watching the 10th surfer go back into the barrel for another 10 seconds .. ?????? anyways my 2cents


As for the Olympics, nah. Never been a fan of it.

Agree SP , I normally live stream all the comps and try and watch as much s I can . This one I watched 3 surfers all perform exactly the same moves on exactly the same waves - found it very boring and turned it off . Must be a bastard for the judges to score I would be giving them all very similar scores
