Had a good session yesterday afternoon after work. The wind took a bit to kick in, but I managed to get this minute of actual riding before my GoPro battery went dead and unfortunately missed the entire "real" session.

Wind was still light ish, and Fisherman's tends to ramp up over the golf coarse, making it probably better for kiting as there's not much on the water. I was riding the Hover 110 and Jet 1250/320/85cm. Super fun, wish I had more to show.

Nice JB, got the wing floating to the side of the board which looks great but I also didn't know you could DW with the wind at 90 degrees which is cool, opens up even more options.
See you're using 2 foot straps now , is that to make getting on the foil easier ? and only for light winds.
Im a bit nervous of 2 foot straps after crashing a couple of times when I was kite foiling on a 95 cm mast.

Yes off the wind was really nice with the 3.6m. I had not noticed is as good on the larger sizes. I was able to sail really broad off the wind with the 3.6m which will be a lot of fun DW'ing when you're not free-winging.

Yes, I have been using footstraps for a while now. Really like them. I have them super loose, no way I could get stuck in them. They help in a number of ways,
- Allow me to actually pull up with my rear foot when pumping.
- Also allow me to use my rear foot to pull up when super loaded to create more nose down force and go faster.
- Aerials is a big one. I want to go high!

I use straps all he time now even surfing. At first I hated them, and there something about being unstrapped and more in tune with your foil, but at speed and in the air they are excellent. You will ride harder and faster with straps once you get used to them.

My friend Tiago Campos on a wingfoil session this week at Douro River, in Porto, Portugal.

He was using the Ozone WASP 4 meters, Axis Foils 1000 front wing and SIC Mako Foil 6'5 (he's loving the board!).

We had a particularly nasty Black Nor-Easter yesterday, shifty, gusty and very very wet to the point of whiteout. Wind of the Obs were about 20-30kn NNE - NE. Solid Swell at first then it dropped on the high tide, but enough to breech some solid drops.

Here's a bit of a vid from the session, not the greatest as its super windy and rainy at the same time. Was stoked to share a glide with a little turtle mid session.

The Gong team in the shallows close to work, a perfect playground for wingfoiling... except for the water color :-)

Wow Colas those guys are ripping , how good are the 360 jibes off the top of the swell , so technical. Super cool video the bar just rose another notch .

Look at the very end of the gong video. The crash at first appears to be from wing breach, but upon further review, I do not see the front wing breach. He also does not appear to be as extended as he has earlier on the mast. Looks more like an equipment failure? There is a little whit puff where something breached or broke.

Yes, I asked him and he answered it was a good ol' breaching.

This is the best video I've seen about how to complete wing foil transitions.

Transitions (foiling tack) are initiated before you'd think -- the wing is moved early over the head while the board is carved upwind. This allows the wind wing to be in position to provide lift as the board enters the new tack and away you go -- take a look. Pumping the board through the transition might also help.

Here's two quick edits I did for Instagram from yesterday's session in the light Nor-Easter.

This is out in Broken Bay riding swells.


And this one is from inside Pittwater having a blast about against a few Windsurf Foilers. The 6m Wing-Surfer has good speed and even more impressive the ability to bareaway deep even in super light conditions. This was about 10-12kn and approx. 100-110degrees off the wind.

Wind was very light. When I came off the foil, I feared I would not get back up and prepared for a long paddle home. But yes on a good day, for sure.

The run in a westerly is super fun. Actually Winging up to Flint and Steel Beach and down rigging then paddle DW back round Barrenjoey is an excellent run in a westerly with incoming tide.

Here's a super fun session I had today Winging Broken Bay. Westerly winds were howling and with the incoming tide there was some amazing bumps to glide on.



Riding the Hover 110 CU, Jet HA 1240/310/75 and S26 Wing-Surfer 3.6m.

Here's some stats from the session by Waterspeed App.

- This is the entire session. Sailing out from my house, the round the heads, upwind to Flint and Steel, and back DW before playing in Pittwater for a while after.

- This one is just the DW run extracted. I would normally like to go around Barrenjoey Headland, but was on my own noticed the wind going a little SW.


Super simple with the Wing-Surfer, no car drops, no picks needed. Just sail where you want to go, ride how you want to ride.

Here is a video I created with some fun but also discussing some major damage I caused to my wing. Hopefully this will prevent a few more wing nightmares. I am still very much learning to wing foil and I have now learnt the hard way to not tether my wing to my board but have it separate and secured upwind. All fixed now and flys well, just got the scars to remind me! The wing and the hydrofoil do not like each other and there is only one winner (maybe two if you include the kite / wing repair guys and girls!). All this happened a few weeks back way before the lock down in the UK, I just had the time now to put it together.
