Yes, I have mounted my CF85 mast to the Starboard Air Foil Board with the carbon plate. It works fine with M8 bolts. There is a flat topped nut that lies flush with the deck pad. The retailer provided these nuts. The direct connection to the foil is a nice feature of this board.

Have a custom built DW board (7'2 @100L 21" width) . (was the shapers custom design). Originally got it for light wind winging options last year for the Summer light winds in Mauritius. Found through trial & error that it didn't really match my then quiver of foil's except only one being my North ha1050 (the later version). The board seemed to naturally need/prefer/match up better with the wider high aspect wing than compared to when testing it with SF930 or even ma1050v1. So With the ha1050 it works pretty good (with a handwing in wingfoil mode in winds of 9-18 knots (or more if I wanted to push it I guess). However since my ha1050 at the time was my largest foil wing used for lightest breezes (I'm 63kg atm) and with summer now here starting again I'm looking to maximize as much low wind use out of the board that I can. Essentially wondering what size North front wing (& stab) would suit that need. Would an sF1230 be something useable on it? Or would another North foil option suit better. Purely guessing here but thinking something around 1300-1400cm would fit the need as still want something allowing some turning ease . any help appreciated. (I do get board going with ha1050 and 208/210 stabs in around 9-12 knots using my 5.5m mode some pumping the handwing when it's gusty with lulls to get the board/foil flying)

Today i finally had the chance to try the new DW1400 with a wing. Based on the comments from Uli and MProject04 i expected poor turning ability but honestly it is not that bad. it is not as nimble as my SF930 but after 10 minutes i didn't have problem freeriding it. I even landed couple of jibes on foil and plenty off foil. I was using 215 stab still waiting on the new DW stab.

Basically i wanted an ultra light wind wing and i think this is it. Love my SF930 and its low end but i think 1230 would not make a great difference. I was even considering HA1400 but it would probably have problem with stall speed.

What i found especially weird is even in very low wind when i pumped 2-3 times but didn't take of the foil still gains speed which didnt drop imediately so after 2-3 seconds when i catch my breath i pump just once or twice and im up. It seems that it can carry momentum for quite long time. It was not just one case i had like 10 moments like this. Newer had this happening before with any other foil. When i pump i ether mange to get on foil or not and it is game over, if my pumps are not constant

Anyway what im trying to say is dont be afraid to use this foil for winging. Im 70kg intermediate rider at best with my 100l DW board and if i manage to ride it so can you...

Appreciating the info. At my 63kg and with light summer breeze season just upon us in Mauritius I too been thinking how to best maximise my light wind winging efforts. (My current two light wind go to foils are the SF930 s208/s215 (with seek 78L for more playful turning freestyle gybe turning wing spin duck tacks, cowboy, etc practicing sessions ) and the HA1050 s208/210 that I use with my custom DW board 7'2 x21 at 100L , cf85 f700 for more simpler lazier cruising sessions. The latter gets me going in around 9/10 knots steady breeze. If it lulls below (so becomes a gusty 9/10 knot top end gust sort of session then still struggle a bit getting DW board to release off the water Oh & 5.5 mode wing). Hence why I've been wondering whether the more recent design releases of North's downwind foil's would work better than the current HA1050 combo I'm using. (My dw board ha1050 combo works about right for me and even lets me turn, gybe tack fine when got it going in a touch more eg 11/12 knots. Your feedback on your dw foil experience given me motivation to consider the dw foil range (I'm only wanting it for cruising around on the wing on light breeze summer days in the beautiful turqouise lagoons on the island. Essentially looking to use in 7/8 knots minimum with hopes it'll get my dw board up and flying where I'd be struggling with my current set up. Unfortunately there's no chance to demo kit it here on the island so only option is heavy reliance on online users feedback. I'm guessing that around a 1100-1200 ish dw foil size would suit my lighter weight better? or would 1400 still be the more useful step up in size over my current ha1050 with my dw board?

Hey, would say the SF series offers best low speed performance. SF1230 paired with DW board + your weight would have u going in no wind in my opinion. the 1080 might be enough for you.

@dangeere, if this was me I would go the DW1100 with the larger S192 stab. The design of the North HA range must be at least 4 years old, great wings but that first generation of HA where low stall speed was compromised. I think most of us on this thread have at least one of the HA sizes so we know the story.

The SF range must be 2 years old and I suspect was optimised for the SF930 and a surf wing, focus on carving and good pump not gliding, again great wings for surfing your brains out.

This DW range is less than a year old, maybe only launched in the last 6 months and in fairness to North its optimized for getting going early, more glide with probably a solid high end. There isn't massive feedback on them yet but the sparse amount is all positive and tends to indicate that North have created another great range of wings specifically for a purpose - which they are quality at doing, and that purpose aligns with what you are trying to achieve.

I'd love to get one too but I'm always late to any party.

It's manoeuvrable to carve from side to side as you would expect from a DW wing to turn, and catch the next bump. As for jibing, it requires a more stand tall, stand over the mast, flip the wing above that centre of lift point (otherwise there is a big wobble) approach - which I had to get used to.

LucasUK you could well be right on the button. (DW1100 /s195) & thinking it through it does sound like (in theory .[but same time so difficult as the true & final test would be actually physically testing it out].that it would fit my needs. Just a note that I'm not at all sure but I think my ha1050 is a later design generation ? . here I mean that prior to getting it I had bought an ?older North version design ha1250 but I didn't like that one at all and remember trading it in fairly quickly with my local supplier here when checked the design & specs (the ? Later ha1050 was a wider span than the earlier format ha1250 , had thinner chord thickness & in short was in line with more recent ha design aspects (reminds me it's AR was also increased/higher ) I'm guessing my ha1050 is around 2.5 years old? But plz don't quote me on itas I'm simply basing this on my own recollection of why I originally changed up my (?older) ha1250 for the (?later) ha1050 that seemed to offer more on paper at the time of being in line with the then modern designs among the brands and not simply North & what I was looking for at the time (more speed/glide & some turning ability, dw boards were not quite a thing when I got it so was for traditional wing board). That said that ha1050 does allow me to turn on small swell lines and ride them (but any larger/wider span than that and I think the turning radius would then stiffen up. While any smaller same generation later ha wing eg ha950 and it'd make getting that dw board of mine going a bit harder unless it was really blowing stronger winds in which case I'd have already shifted back to the standard compact wingfoil style boards I.e. for the summertime lagoon playground winging (although clean riding proper down winding I guess then the smaller hawing would apply ). Yes there's not much feedback reviews around on North's more recent dw foil wings. Not sure if that's to do with North's pro rider team not doing dw as much as racing/freestyle/freeride/waves? And I've not seen much from the pro team riders online giving out much info on them either (tends to be forum discussions/threads like this one that exposes and gleans much needed info. Either that or I've simply not found the right links etc. back to the subject You're recommendation dw1100 /s192 sounds right (the only other spanned in the works that's throwing me slightly is MpProject04 testimonial around the dw1400 wing. (I looked up the wing span and saw it's only 1250cm according to North's data) & he seems to really rate that wing. This is why dealers /distributors of North really do need to have as wide a spread of demo kit to them for us customers to actually demo , even on small islands like Mauritius and such. I've been riding all North foil gear for nearly 2 years now (& ran Armstrong foil concurrently for a while but gained more from North [cheaper and just as good as imo, although I've not got any of the more improved Armstrong foil kit since the past 12 Months, which is when all their good improved stuff really started coming through, owing to the greater costs of that brand while finding North's as good as.
I really need to demo North's dw1100 vs dw1400 (compare both to my current ha1050) atm that's wishful thinking & if only . instead, more realistically, putting all the feedback together at my 63kg (I do go between that and up to 68kg depending on if I can control my cheesecake addiction) it's looking like dw1100 /s192 stab is the right set up. Grateful to this forum and hopefully the Q&A's (though a bit long) offers assistance to others (& thanks to @Schlogger who did add to MProject04 on his thread dw1400 item that did indirectly add to/answer answer my own Q. ) Once I've got the next foil wing for the dw board I'll post feedback. Yesterday I had first session on DW900. In comparison I tired MA1200v1, SF1080, MA850v2 and I main for last half of year was HA1250 with s232 which was used from 8 knots put to 30 knots. DW900 has insane wind range. Stall speed is lower or about the same as HA1250. Glide is endless. Looks like new section gives easier pitch control. Was paired with s178. Wind was around 14-15 knots in the first half of session with 6m Ocean rodeo AA. I tried to downwind and push it for a speed to find where is the limit . I couldn't find it ??after winds picked up to stable 18 knots and I replace my hand wing with North mode Ultra 4.8. This foil is completely different from what I tried before. For sure for intermediate users who appreciate speed and glide. Turning is effortless even with such high wing span and aspect ration 13. I would love to try DW750 looks like this might be perfect free ride wing. I think with downwind board you might be able to use DW900 in about 10 knots.

Had a first session with the s142 with the DW1400. According to the Sonar Guide v4 the combination should work for my - super quiet. Not a single hum
- the DW1400 went much faster and actually felt like an HA foil going upwind. Super stable and easier to rise (mind you that the DW1400 is huge and a big lifter)
- very smooth downwind and easy to pump. Was easy to pump too with s215 but this feels better (hard to find the right words)
- I needed to move my mast twice forwards to achieve the same front foot feel as I did with the s215. That was interesting. But I think that makes sense since the area on the s142 is less.. so the leverage at the rear of the fuse is less too, hence I needed to move the mast at least 1 cm forward (two times 0.5cm)

Is it more stable in turning? I'd say less. It frees up the rear more so more ease in turning. But in return I felt more feedback from the foil.

The low end .. s215 vs s142 feels the same but with s142 you reach the take off speed quicker.

Overall good. Thanks Ganeshka for sharing the impressions on the DW900. Everything you say I can relate to and imagine to be true, since the DW1400 is a bigger version of the 900. I went in hindsight too big with the DW1400 and reading your post I'm super tempted to go DW900 but my quiver would then become too full ..

In a way the DW feels like a HAv2 with a better low end thanks to the thicker profile and deep camber. It's for this reason that we need to think in smaller sizes. The more I think of this...I went too big . But the original aim was to learn DW supfoil with the DW1400 (and my appetite for this has decreased.. looks too much hassle.. parawings on the horizon etc)

I'm next looking to test the s142 with the SF830 in wave conditions. According to the Sonar Guide this works too. I just need to make sure to find the right mast position for similar front foot pressure before making any meaningful comparisons.

I have an SF930 setup and am wondering if I should buy an even smaller setup for days with a lot of wind (20-40 knots). I have demoed a DW750 and found it very easy to get up with and was incredibly impressed with the glide. Tested with an S192 and think it was a bit too big, so I will try with S142 eventually. I may well buy a DW750 and an S142, but at the same time I miss the turns of the SF wings which do not have as large a wingspan.

SF680 and SF530 are therefore the options I am considering. I think the SF680 would have been a fairly safe choice, but I am wondering if anyone has any input on whether the SF530 could be an alternative when I weigh 92kg? I use a 63l board and mostly surf open ocean waves. I heard that the SF530 is significantly faster than the SF680 (presumably due to higher AR), so if the SF530 could be possible, it is very interesting.

I have never tried foil smaller than 750 cm2, so it would be great if someone with some experience could share their assessment of how far down it is worth going down in foil size.

Howdy, I'm on the SF680/S178/C600 the last couple of months after coming down from a SF930 and HA850. I'm 75kg/60l board and ride similar conditions to you. So far I absolutely love it, faster, carves insane and still pretty pumpable (compared to the HA). It does need energy to come alive though and you need to seek that out (as opposed to the SF930 that you can just pump away on). It definitely needs power to get going, you wanna be sure your wing pump game is strong but in 20 plus knots its fantastic.

The SF530 wasn't about when I got it, I can see how that would work for sure. I think if was in your position now, I would still get the SF680. Reflecting on the sessions I have been having I think you need to build into riding faster, carving harder, etc. its made me focus on these aspects of my riding. A fast foil is exactly that but you wanna have the skills to use it too.

I think the S192 was too big for the SF930. You could glide and pump well, but the speed was about the same or lower than the S215. In addition, it slipped out occasionally when you pushed it towards maximum speed. So I didn't gain much confidence with it.

This is just my experience after a session on the water with it, so someone else may well have different experiences.

I have ordered the S142 and am crossing my fingers that it will be perfect together with the SF930 and SF680.

Main thing for me is to improve glide on the SF series, so still not sure if i should go with 192 or 142

do you think the s192 would work with the sf930 or would u go with s142

I think the S192 was too big for the SF930. You could glide and pump well, but the speed was about the same or lower than the S215. In addition, it slipped out occasionally when you pushed it towards maximum speed. So I didn't gain much confidence with it.

This is just my experience after a session on the water with it, so someone else may well have different experiences.

I have ordered the S142 and am crossing my fingers that it will be perfect together with the SF930 and SF680.

Main thing for me is to improve glide on the SF series, so still not sure if i should go with 192 or 142
