I super glued a bit of rubber (old wet suit) to the inside of the mast clamp, hasn't slipped since :)

You looked good out there yesterday.

Although the wind was a bit up and down, the 7.0 was good for me yesterday. Not too big in the gusts and helped me through the lulls.

Glad you stuck with the Shark. It will be worthwhile in the end

JonesySail - Yeah tried pulling the rope tight - so tight in fact the flip over handle is bending closing. Not an RDM mast - thanks for the tips

John340 - Hey thanks John - it was a good day - the 6.3m sail did enable me to throw the sail around a bit as it was light - good for development. Did manage a few water starts. You were smashing it out there blasting along - definitely looking forward to getting there

I am looking forward to getting out on the water again this week end. 2 day Clinic with the two Peter's from Wind Wanderers at Elanda Point.

Heading to Elanda Point on Lake Cootharaba tomorrow for the Wind wanderers clinic this week end.

We are looking forward to it and catching up with our fellow beginners / intermediates

MMM what board am I going to take - Pacifico and the Fanatic, Jaye will have choice of Mistral energiser and Fanatic, Anita will be on the Naish.

Will try and keep you posted on our progress

Hope you have good times at your clinic guys. Peter might have you all doing tricks by the end of the weekend. For myself I will have to be content with just a few hours on the water during Saturday arvo. I will be launching at Boreen Point so you may see me as to plane on past me, or when you are doing those carve gybes. 360's of course. Hey Morgan, last weekend at Golden Beach was great and it was good to chat while we caught our breath. The only damper on the day was my last run...I was too tired and all my Waterstarts attempts went kaput. later I found a nice ding on the nose of my board. Need to repair this before going sailing on Saturday. Need some dry weather for the epoxy to cure.

Sounds great at Rose bay Ants - next time mate it was good - no time to write anything unpacking van etc. and getting ready for work. I will put our progress down in words over the next few days

Anita – the Naish Kailuha 180L,

Jaye his Mistral 110L Energyzer for windy days and the Fanatic Shark 165L for light wind days,

I took the Fanatic Shark 165L windy days and the Pacifico 220L

Arrived at Elanda Point on Friday around 1pm nice…… time to get out after we set up for a sail. Met up with Jack and Delmay also Jeff arrived at the same time. Jeff, Jack and Jaye out in the water by 3pm – I just finished setting up and getting gear ready for a sail and discovered boom had a crack not advisable to head out with that Jack said so no going out for me Friday.

Saturday armed with a boom Jeff lent me, off we go 8.30 start and the Peters checked out our set ups I had the 6.6m Avanti sail – Fanatic Shark 165l – the guys decided that I must have the wrong mast in the avanti as they couldn’t get rid of the loose sail at the bottom. We discussed the importance of Mast/sail combinations. Funny had the same discussion with Dan the week before and I had the ezzy up…. maybe I need to start to look at my set ups (wonder how important it really is at my level?) Jaye set up the Mistral 110l go fast board with the Ezzy 6.3 sail and Anita set up the Naish Kailuha 180L with the 4.5m Gun Sail (you go girl)

Anita – Saturday it was a bit windy maybe 12 – 14 and a bit gusty – she stuck it out with the Gun 4.5m sail and came very close to her first ever beach start woo hoo. Anita has never stuck it out in that much wind, so well done Sunday the Naish and Gun sail – it was very cool to sail together – not sure how Anita is going to go as when discussing our weekends windsurfing during the week it seems as though the bug hasn’t bit. I am hoping it does bite but we will see what we shall see.

Jaye – the bug has bitten here – he was set up and gone on Friday with Jack the Mistral 110L with the Ezzy 6.3m sail. I could see him on the Horizon blasting away on the other side of the Lake. Saturday – Jaye was like the rest of the naughty boys as the wind was up he was on the other side of the Lake to the instructors Peter and Peter (better for Anita and I as we stuck close). Sunday he set up the Fanatic Shark 165L with the avanti 6.6m sail. Carve gybe was his mission for the week end – I think he achieved the result he was looking for – good man.

Me – Friday no joy broken boom. Saturday – Jeff lent me a nice boom – thanks very much mate . I set up the Avanti 6.6m sail on the Shark 165L and struggled for the whole day. I kinda got the thing up and sub planing a couple of times. I ended up trashed. Here is a bit of an account of how things panned out. I would beach start and get moving in the right direction a step forward and the nose of the board was underwater so sailing along like this move to the back of the board and the opposite (I thought I could do this windsurf thing??) stabilise the board and nearly get going foot behind the mast base standing in the centre of the board, this was pretty much how my whole day went. I got very cranky – I’m old and do cranky really well and about 3pm was going in to get my Pacifico but Peter said stick with the Fanatic, so I did. Sunday light winds so I unleashed the beast (Mistral Pacifico) this one I can tame and control and have fun. Don’t know if I will ever be able to do it again but even pulled off my first duck gybe, woo hoo go me lol. I set up the Neil Pryde 7.5m sail and had a blast. My main aim for the week end was to tweak what I already know – stance – feet – shoulders – hips – I figure if I can get right what I know now then I can move on. The boys said I have that sorted.

Saturday we were on the water by 10 and finished at around 5pm with a break for lunch. Sunday on the water by 9 am and finished at 12. A great effort by everyone to stay on the water for as long as we did – way to go…..:-)

STATS: Water starts 0, Beach starts 75%, Tacks (Sat 0) Sun 99%, Gybes (Sat 0) Sun 99%, Uphauls (Sat 25%) Sun 1

Congrats on the duck gybes woohoo! I can do old and cranky too..spat the dummy big time last night as I couldn't get upwind well enough to have some downwind bearaways in the flatwater... It was one of those - bugger this I'm going to give the sport away days.,. haven't had one like that for years..

Be prepared to realise you are much slower than you think.. ( I certainly was..) although as you have entered a GPS event before you probably have a good idea anyway..

Wellington Point this morning late morning - sounds like a plan

Windsurfing at Wellington Point Sunday. We arrived around midday and it was about 14knots all three of us going in today.

Anita - Naish Kailuha 180L with 4.3m Junior rig got out there and had a go woo hoo. Didn't do so well but was out there in the water on a beautiful day - why would you be doing anything else

Jaye - Mistral Energiser 110L with Avanti 6.6m sail - first time windsurfing with a GPS (canmore) his stats were distance 21.82K's, 2 sec Peak 23.36 - nice work considering he has only been windsurfing since Australia Day this year, does seem like forever ago. Jaye was working on his carve Gybes and did fall in a lot - good man.

Me - Mistral Pacifico 220L with my favourite Neil Pryde 7.5m sail and I took the Naish for a spin - sprung by Simon (Board Crazy) doing that lol I could hear someone behind me not game to look as I had just got it going and in the harness and was hooting along but having fallen off 10 times in one run decided to go back to the Pacifico. When I was on the Naish with the life Jacket on I couldn't hook into the harness at all - I wonder is there a long hook or a better life jacket - because I can't see the hook with it on. Nothing to do with my portly stature at all .... So I took it off and all good.

One thing I did experience today was the shortening of the harness lines I ended up with them fully shortened about six inches wow - even set like that they seemed too long on the Naish as they kept on unhooking when I was planing. WHAT!!!???I did however get into both foot straps for one leg of the run out woo hoo feels really weird being in the footstraps I give you the drum. Does that mean I am windsurfing now.

New problem - I am moving around too much at speed - on off and on off the plan because I am moving my body and sheeting in and out too much - will have to address, how cool is it going to be to stay on the plan :-)

Stats - water starts 2 out of a possible 25 (thought I could water start) obviously not quite yet, beachstarts 98% - even in deep water, Planing yep on both boards , Tacks Pacifico 100% - Naish 10%, Gybes - didn't even attempt one today, Foot Straps Pacifico 25% - Naish 10%, Fun 95% Woo Hoo

Starting feel a little depressed - looking at the forcast for the week end

It is only Wednesday though things can change - the boss (Anita - my beautiful wife) is already lining me up with lots of chores. " what do you mean I spend all week end either getting ready and packing washing cleaning windsurfing gear or windsurfing?" But I said "now I have the chance to fix the Be Bop and a couple of small dings on the Pacifico woo hoo. OOPs!

Did someone say addiction - wonder if there is a windsurfing anonymous somewhere...... Here is hoping for the week end guys and girls

Might have to take her for one of our city adventures - that is always a nice day and we get to go on the water

Not sure what forecast your looking at? All I can see is 3 days of sandstone point Se afternoon sailing.

However feeling your pain - swimming carnival Saturday and Xmas lunch Sunday. That's the family forecast. Lucky I'm rostered off on Friday


Afternoon storms curtailed an after work blast yesterday :-( but I did get out with pat and the lads monday arvo at Turners - pretty well got blown off the water as the storms approached

??? Maybe if I leave the carnival early on Saturday I may be able to organize something south side!!! - addicted . Just got to organize disguising the sailing gear :-)

I am definitely NOT looking at windsurfing locations in NZ while I'm there on a "Family Holiday" for 2 weeks.... oh wait... denial is the first sign right??? haha

I'm hoping Saturday turns good as it'll be my last sail before the holiday. Early afternoon high tide, all we need is a little bit of a SE breeze and it's on. Would love to do a Manly to Wello run before Christmas! Who is with me?

It is a good addition though. There are worse things to be addicted to...

Yep windsurfing helps you lose weight and get fit..

Bit Crook and just got back from the Doctor and she has said - I can't go windsurfing all week end!!! WHAT........ That doesn't help my addiction at all.

I tried to talk her into letting me go Sunday if I am feeling better but nah no way sticking to her digs - that sux

Back to the no wind analogy from earlier in the week - a week end of taking it easy - might take Jaye down on Sunday if he wants to go for a run

So enjoy your time on the water this week end guys and girls

Yeah Doc is worried it may go to my chest so no windsurfing this weekend - will have to think about something to put here am working on the the difference in feeling for a learner from where Anita is (I was there just then) and where I am now. We have discussed it and it is quite different.

Enjoy the water - we will be down to watch and maybe Jaye and Ben going in for a blast tomorrow - what a tease we have to take them - I can take some photos. Ben is getting a board in the morning

As you know, I learned water start not long ago. I might have some tips for you.it is a simple exerise. You can do it in shallow water. This exercise will significantly increase your success rate of water start. I cannot find this exercise on the internet.

1. Assume both hands are holding the boom now. And your board is in cross wind position.
2. Rest your back foot on the middle back of the board. Not stepping on the board. The rear muscle in your back leg below your knee should be touching the board. And your toes are facing up in the sky. Front foot in the water.
3. Sail in this position for some distance. Bear away a bit and go upwind a bit. Feel the power.
4. No need to get up in a hurry.


Once you are comfortable sailing like this. Getting up is a piece of cake.
