It was great to catch up with everyone Saturday at Cootharaba. Tony and Jeff turned up - awesome to see you guys and had a good sail - Jeff said he was lucky enough to have a moment nice one Jeff. Looking forward to 2nd week of the school holidays at the lake with you, Jack and few others will be great...

Nice to catch up with you & Anita today. Had to leave when you were on the water to go & pick up one of my kids at 3pm. Looked like wind was picking up a bit as I was leaving. Mal

Had a great day at RQ Beach - Anita and I only two going out in the light winds - not enough wind for Jaye pfffft.....
Met up with MalJ and his sexy new sail woo hoo nice nice nice mate very pretty sail.

Cammd came and gave some very encouraging positive words - thanks Cameron cheers. Great to catch up mate

This how our day went

Anita - on the Naish 180L with her junior rig an hour on the water and didn't even get her hair wet. Nice one. Blasting back and forward accross the front of RQ beach tacking well and above all smiling.

Me - RSX with the 7.5m Neil Pryde sail - had a little trouble getting the harness together at the start but got the hang of it and started having a blast. Interestingly I forgot to pack some crucial parts to put the centre board in, so no centre board - all good board still works a treat without it... I put the biggest fin on that I have the 66cm. No catapults woo hoo, nearly though on a number of occasions but held it together. No damage today nice change. Experimented a little with standing in different positions on the board and how it reacts - two inches back and starts heading upwind - doesn't take much movement on the board to change the dynamics.

I managed to get in a few nice Tacks and Gybes - and some ugly ones but was very happy about the ones that worked and that was the majority. Fell off the first few but was good for the rest. Happy with that

I must admit, that's what it's all about - good for the mind, body and soul sitting back enjoying a Hahn Premium reflecting on our day on the water. I am aching from head to toe as is Anita - the beer is for medicinal purposes only

All in all a very successful day for advancing beginners

Was good to see you an Anita sailing today.

Here's a photo the club took today of Jamie and me just after the start of the second race. The wind had just filled in enough to get the raceboards powered up to windward.

My mate at work says that he doesn't want to see me cranky on Monday because I came last, that's nice isn't it --- oh ye of little faith

I said he doesn't have to worry about that because I already know that I will come last

Looked like fun and there were people encouraging us to come and have a go so what the ...... in for a penny in for a pound then.

Don't worry about what Anita put on the Free race page about the rescue boat as she has decided not to sail lol -- oooops.

Hey Morgan great that you are going to give FR a try. When I entered my first figure of eight slalom race I couldn't even gybe properly so tacked around the marks. Can remember as 15+ years ago now but probably came last, had lots of fun though! You gotta start somewhere. At least with FR there are no markers you need to round just try to stay upright and moving and you will do just fine. See you on Sunday.

First race ever on a windsurfing board woo hoo and first Free race for the season in Queensland

Thanks to Windwanderers club from the Sunny Coast, Surf FX on the Gold Coast and anyone else who helped with the organisation and sponsorship of the event. It was a lot of fun for a first event and everyone were really friendly and helpful to us newbies.

I had this great idea, I will start off with the Naish 180L and 7.5m sail bad idea, it was too rough for me and I couldn’t balance on it in those conditions, so rigged up the RSX a bit more volume with the 7.5m Neil Pyde sail. The wind was a consistent 20 to 25 knots and it was in a very busy part of the coast seaway. We had to consider the wind, chop and racing currents (wind & current same direction), the Foil Moths blasting by us in all directions at speed ( I had to bail to avoid collision with moths a couple of times lol – seemed like a good idea at the time), huge amount of small boats sailing around must have been a club, the jet boat blasting all around us , paraflying boat and parachute, the high Speed island cat and the floating restaurant, the odd kite or two! Busy as……. Phew missed them all.

Jaye is on the right of the picture on his retro Mistral Energyzer 110l, Avante 6.6m sail. Same thing happened to him, the conditions got the better of him (remembering we are very much beginners) (special thanks to Reewa for helping Jaye) and grabbed the Naish 180l and that was better. He had a blast.





Our Stats – we both came last in our divisions but we knew that before we started. Now we have something to work on

Heading to Cootharaba for a week today - woo hoo.

Targets

Jaye - Planing gybe - pffft doubt it..... but a good target to go for a bit ambitious maybe but will have fun trying

Anita - Beach Starts - this should be a winner - the Pacifico with its short 280 fin

Me - mmmm what is it I am after again ....... THATS RIGHT -- FOOT STRAPS!!!! This is it - I am going to commandeer the Naish from Anita and work on those foot straps, also going to have a crack at the footstraps on the Pacifico as used to be able to get into the back one in strong winds. The RSX so I can just go for a ride and have fun

I've got a pb to beat of avg 1.45 knots in half an hour, so need to start training

Depending on internet will up date our progress..

i didnt really fell in a heap of times and had to uphaul each time.

Jaye yes also fell in when using the small board.

I guess balance will come with practice. We just have to persevere and get as much time on the water as we can.

Arrived and found a nice spot between Jack and Jeff hopefully a bit out of the wind when it comes.
Day one - a nice little 10 to 12 knot NE breeze.

Anita - rigs the Naish with her new 4.5m gun wave sail up and off like a pro looking good. Fell off a few times sail too heavy and came in

Jaye went walking with his mate to Mill Point, Fig Tree and Kin Kin Creek.

Me - set up the RSX with the 9.5m sail blasted off across the lake (blasting for me that is) did an excellent gybe and broke the mast track so came in and grabbed the naish 180 L put the 9.5m sail on it and with great trepidation headed out. Jack helped get the rigging right for me and harness lines etc. a bit of a pep talk and amazingly stepped up onto the board hooked in start to accelerate at a rapid rate made it into the back foot strap and kept on accelerating dropped all my weight into the harness and it went easy. I was blasting along at a windsurfers pace same pace as everyone else. Man I was windsurfing. What a feeling wow. The part that made it amazing was that it just happened I wasn't conscientiously it just happened and I ended up with my foot on the rear straps so just put it in. Boreen came up so fast I thought I better turn around and head back. Sort of did the same on the return journey but fell off a number of times and I can only uphaul that big 9.5 only so many time. Couldn't quite get it happening on the return.

great news mate , so stay on the Naish and retire the rsx :)
