Went windsurfing at Victoria Point on Saturday and had a blast.

Man, windsurfing to me has become quite different these days – it’s like finally I have been touched by the magic windsurfing stick. I am really excited again with the sport from doing battle every weekend for a year. It is so worth it :-). Ok, so what’s happened mmm not a hundred percent sure but now when I get on the board (Rio Longtail) I can beach start get on the plane quick, hook in to the harness and both feet in straps all in the first 10mts or so. HOW COOL IS THAT!!!!!!!!!!!! This in lighter winds with big sail – I used to find myself watching the experienced guy and girls flying around while I slogged it out just trying to stay on the board. Even in lightish winds like Saturday I could potter about having fun but this week here I was actually planning and cracked 16+ knots comfortably (crazy), I guess it is a amalgamation of all the advice and pointers that people have given me over the year, for which I thank all of you very much. Added to time on the water.

Saturday I did manage to get into the back straps once – turned straight up wind – mmm very familiar I will have to work on that – maybe just not enough wind or again technique

I am cheating a bit with a BIG board and a BIG sail and a BIG fin but still, I have found the combination of how to get fully locked in and planning. I must say we have met some really great people – seems so far, that windsurfing attracts nice people. The Rio Longtail from Simon at Boardcrazy has to be the best learning platform for a bigger person can learn on, and it paddles all right as a sup board.

Next, I have to learn how to fly. The next level of windsurfing is to learn how to get maximum speed from my rig, planning gybes and chose correctly for conditions. The next leg of my Windsurfing learning curve.

Anita went out on Saturday as well good to see was doing really well until she had a go at beach starting a couple of times and had a decent stack – game over packed up her bat and ball and went in. Damn lost her nice sunnies as well.

Cootharaba for a week to hone our skills – with Jeff, Jack, Peter (Wind Wanderers) and a few others can't wait – I am taking the shark to have a go at a smaller board. I have been going to the gym nearly every day to get my fitness up for windsurfing and for the week.

That's great to hear mate! Maybe you can bring that magic windsurfing stick and give me a whack with it! haha! I think it's been 6 weeks since I was last on the water... Just one of those times when there's something else on every weekend.

I'm hoping to head up to Cootharaba next Thursday and Friday (9th/10th), will you be up there then? It'd be great to catch up and have a sail!

Just about finished packing. Night duty fatigue and the rain have slowed me down. Heading up today

Up for a few days and the back for work over Easter and first week of school hols and Then back up for second week of holidays

Hi Morgan, had to go to Noosa for work on Thursday morning and passed you & Anita on the freeway on your way to the lake! Waved but it looked like you had your "I'm going sailing" face on and didn't see me (I think). On my way back to Brissy later that day I passed 27 kms of carpark on the northbound, and it was teeming, and wind forecast is not good, so have decided to come up later when things dry out a bit and there's more wind. Hope to come up Tuesday evening so save some wind for me! Cheers mate, Jack.

After losing my $500 prescription sunnies once I now ask the optometrist to drill a hole in one arm .I then attach the glass holders ( bought) with fishing line to that arm. The end of the glass leash gets clipped /tied onto my wetsuit lead / bouyancy vest etc..If they fly off they are still on a leash..When I lost mine I had one of those wide closefitting leashes on under a helmet and they still came off!
Glad your getting to the fun part of windsurfing!

As Jeff says plenty of room here at the Lake Mike - mass exodus this morning so pick your spot. Jaye and Ben arriving today - more windsurfers - good to see lots of sails on the Lake and the sun is shining and the birds are chirping.

Day 1 - Windsurfing Easter at Cootharaba

My mission this week is gybing and back straps wind permitting

Anita – get in harness

It was raining and stormy when we arrived at around 9.30 am but clear enough to set up. Nice. 2 hour set up camp site and out for a blast – I set up the Rio Longtail with 8.5 m Loft switchblade 50 fin.

I got going and straight into footstraps and hooked in and blasting, seemed like I was going faster then before but........dang, didn’t take the GPS, came in grabbed it and back out again but the wind had dropped slightly but clocked an 18.08 not bad for an improver. The wind was definitely up and down

In the water and straight away flying seemed like a north easterly blowing. I was doing ok but still there were guys flying past me, Andy and Richard from Hervey bay and some others I not sure who they were but looked good. I tried to tuck in behind Andy to mimic what he was doing to get more out of the wind. lol oh well

Stats – Beach Starts 100% woo hoo, Water Starts 0% (not enough wind (that’s my story)), Tacks 80%, oops was supposed to do some gybes, foot straps most of the time except in the holes. But most importantly it was great fun

Anita decided to take it easy.

Easter @ Lake Cootharaba

Windsurfing at the Lake isn’t proving to be the best – so we went for a sup. Which was very pleasant.

We went out with Peter De Laet from WindWanderers who had his one design I guess he had to because we were borrowing his sup (thanks Pete :-)) Jack and Delmay, Jaye and myself out walking on water.

The wind was light so it was on, old paddler verses younger one design sailor – up wind was a challenge for the supper I can say, for sure, but think I held my own although it did seem like Peter was giving me a chance to hang on. Around the marker and back Peter said, so it was to be but, I chose a closer marker and the downwind run was on. I had a fairly healthy head start thanks Peter —- Was a heap of fun :-).

I paddled constantly and as powerfully as possible for as long as I could – we made it back together. Nice one

We decided to get sails and have a play Anita, Jaye and I got out there for an hour or so – Anita on the Naish Kailuha and 4.5 Gun sail – Jaye on the Pacifico with our Neil Pryde 7.5m sail and I had the Starboard Rio Longtail with switch blade 8.5m breeze was probs blowing 6 to 9 knots a pleasant light wind sail to finish the day off. Grandma was there (Anita's mum) and did take some photos and got the three of us together a rare photo but not sure when we will see those.

Easter week at Lake Cootharaba con'd

Had a great sail with everyone out at Elanda Point, Lake Cootharaba. Jack, Peter DeLaet, Jeff, Tony, Denton, Jill and Andy, Daryl and Theresa, Gay and hubby/partner, Darren, Tammy, Jaye and Ben (sons), Anita, Peter, Anthony, Richard and Sue, Justin was there earlier in the week, hope I haven’t missed anyone. Was great to see so many sails in the water at one stage there were 12 out the front at Elanda – what a great social get together. Definitely missing Mal – September hols mate..

What a great week it was – new favourite place to camp. I practised gybing sort of :-), Clocked 20.04 on Friday and Jaye clocked a 24.59 Woo Hoo go Team Windsurfing Learning Curve (WLC) That means we are both now chasing 25 – I suspect Jaye may get there just before me lol. But the challenge has been set……:-)

On Friday I unleashed the Shark again and no good just do not seem to be able to tame the beast at this stage. Saturday took the Naish Kailuha for a spin – no worries a bit sketchy but can ride it…. Time to move the Shark on I think. I did however on the Rio, manage to get into the back straps and stay there from half way to Boreen across the lake – Nice. This was the only time over the week in both back straps did get into front back straps a bit with back foot still in the front back strap – was alright. What ever was happening when I went for the back strap I headed up wind – technique have to keep with learning technique. Jeff let me take his Phantom for a spin – nice.


Windsurfing – what a great sport – it is so good for the MIND, BODY AND SOUL………… and a awesome way to meet really nice people.

Movie still in the making - Jaye had his go pro and Anita captured some footage too will put it together and see what we come up with

Definitely will be there again in September School Hols for another week of fun, windsurfing and socialising.
