I reckon they would probably go ok despite their less than visual appeal. I have had a Miller Waterskate before and it was a ripper of a board. I have seen lots of his boards over the years and they seem to hold up well. If they are going for a reasonable price - then you can probably take a punt on one of them and if you do not like it move it on to someone else and have a crack at something else.

With both being reasonably priced you may be right in having a punt on one and seeing how it goes...

I'm not the guy to give an opinion on it, as to be fair I never gave it a good go. It was a spare of the moment decision to get it but I enjoy my longboards more given that at best I surf once a week and have shoulder issues so what ever puts the least load on my shoulder wins the race.

I guess I am in the same boat - however replace the shoulder issues with lazy paddling issues. I might try and do some more research before pulling the trigger... See what I come up with.

Nothing fishy from me end - that I know about.

Been a lurker/stalker for awhile and have decided to stick my bit in a little here and there. I enjoy the banter that goes on here (even when looking in from the outside) and thought it might be a good fit.

If I have given off the impression of suspect motives, then I apologise as that was not my intention.

Although - to be honest I am a sultan from Brunei and I have 1 million dollars I would like to give you, my new friend Mr Vanders1. All I need you to do is post all of your bank account information along with the deed to your house and I will personally deliver the money.

I'm with Vanders, I love my little McCoys (7'1" & 7'6") but since I bought my McTavish 10' Cruiser ride that most of the time.... Easier on shoulders, you only need to think about catching a wave and you're on. Love my Tyler Hatzikian 9'6" stepdeck too, but traditional costruction (volan) weight makes a bit of a shoulder wrecker...... a few blokes here in SA ride Surftech biggies, 11' Munoz& Takayama, massive volume, catch swells well before they become waves! Unfortunately not made by ST anymore, would love to pick one up.

I actually don't rate it in small sloppy stuff but find it excels once you get a nice long head high wall to carve. Paddles beautifully and catches waves super early, handles a steeper drop than you think and smashes through flat sections. definitely surfs better if you use the whole board, i.e. if you have a tube or a fast straight section you need to step forward on the board to get her going at maximum trim...

That said, I rarely use mine as I prefer the long board...

These boards look interesting and having read through the posts there seems to be 2 sides to the opinions.

1 - those who actually ride them seem to enjoy them immensely (for the majority).

2 - those who haven't ridden one but believe it looks like a dog of a board.

I am loving my logs these days but think something shorter yet familiar in shape may be a good addition...

In saying that I am not too sure if I will pull the trigger and grab one of the ones off of eBay. Who knows though, after a few beers I get a little frisky with my internet clicking

That is what you call a McHenry.

They do look a little odd. I call mine "the fridge door with a fin" and even Grant Miller (shaper) admits he was massively surprised that they work. definitely check out the guff on his page as it makes for an interesting read and Grants a super nice/interesting guy http://www.grantmillersurfboards.com.au/boards/SUBX.

Just to add, A mate who's a learner surfed mine on Saturday in some dredgy head high fun ones, He was so stoked at the end of the sesh, reckoned it was the best he'd surfed... ... ... ... I may sell him the board as he's pretty interested and I have another expensive board project in the works so.........

First off I gotta say I started this thread here, longboard room, as "there is NO FRIKKIN MIDLENGHT ROOM" . I just don't get it when guys are dropping in here bellyaching about the teremity of us midlenghters, with no home, Sniff, having a couple a quite words about the purity of keeping the "shortboard revolution" alive. Because at 8' & under that was were the revolution started & I followed it deeply down to a 5'6" Tom Hoye twinnie in late 69 or 70 something & for me Lynchy's reentry in "Evolution" was the start. I, like many other older surfer now find a good midlength to be "the go". So whats all the frothing BS here about this is a shortboard, that's a midlength, we ride longboards WTF if you dont wanna talk midlenght don't read the frikkin thread go elsewhere & blat on about your 12ft, wooden tailblock, tripple redwwod stringerd, concaved, reversed D finnned board/s blah blah blah... Takes a breath....one elephant, two elephants..

Now Leashless what can I say, Subx's do paddle really well, get in early & will take a steep takeoff suprisingly well, but obvioiusly aint gonna get you surfing like Mick or Parko. They're for, all surfers particularly the shoulder weary/injured & old gremme's like me who live in Sydney etc & mainly ride small beachie type surf, not by choice. Are they for everyone, are all boards nah, thats the beauty of surfing now, choice!! & there is some damm good ones out there. So go get one or a McCoy, Mct Sumo, Tak Scorpion, etc etc... it's only money.." but the waves man the waves"...
