I've been there and done that Scotty. Was quite into 666 for a while when my shoulders were buggered. The moved to Longboards and then down to mid lengths as they got stronger. (I'm only a pretender on a short board).

The 666 was good but around the goldie it is just too crowded. Now, really enjoy surfing with a few good blokes. Had some good ones with Mac, Chrispy and ASEA. The coffeeeeee afterwards is just as good.

Hope it goes well mate Some good advice here, particulalry from guys like obct.

Good to hear you are back in the real world Scotty.....I would recommend you go as much volume as you can....make life as easy as possible whilst you get back into the groove then you can wind it back later on. Don't go dropping in on yr mates with the 2035 numberplate tattooed on them they might end yr comeback before it takes off !

I've been living there since I was 2 weeks old so all good there Ted.

According to Mac my dims should be 10ft x 23 1/2 x 3 1/4. Anybody disagree ?
Single fin will do I reckon.
Round nose and tail ?
Once I come up with the right specs I can start looking for a pre-loved LB.

Why not jump in the car and cross the bridge north and go meet obct for a surf and chin wag (very funny man) and take one of his boards for a paddle - I am pretty sure he will not mind and you will see the joys of a big volume board for yrself

9'6 should be long enough. 9'8 to 9'9 is a potential option. 10'0 is not essential.
I would suggest;
9'6 x 23"1/4 x 3"1/4
9'8 x 23"1/2 x 3"3/8

See if you can borrow a Brewer 9'6 Tufflite.
9'6 x 23 x 3"1/4 - 78 Litres. Then you can think about whether you like that in stock, or whether you want to bigger.

10 foot is the call from the experts, also mentioned during my call was he could drop down to 9.6 in 12/18 months,10 foot will give the best enjoyment starting back,a 9.6 will make it too hard at times and this could spoil the fun.

Sounds good Mac. I was thinking that 78-85 litres is not enough. I think Scotty should be aiming at about 100 litres.

Munoz 10'6 x 24 x 3"1/2 is registered as 105 litres.

Imagine a Custom McTavish, tints, or just volane and visible laps, and nice thick stinger, glassed on single...

10'0 x 23"1/2 x 3"1/2. Fireball, Redline...?
23"3/4?

What are the dims on Vanders board?

PerformerII... Go up to Mona Vale... Have a chat, and place an order.

Phone Mel (a girl) on 02 9997 8266.
Ask for the glassing/tints to be done at Force9 Cronulla.

Sean Wilde knows how to shape longboards... Mona Vale I think.

They order them in. I was doing a job over northside and drove past a surf shop at Collaroy and called in - the guy showed me the website on his ipad. They are made from epoxy - wtf is epoxy ? As I said I've been out of the game for a while.

Pull the trigger scotty.... that is pefect litres wise, i was just going to agree with Mac about a 10 Ftr when you're getting back into it but that will have plenty enough flotation. i reckon i could SUP it..

and Walden makes nice boards. Very popular OS.

4" is an incredibly thick board, but the volume has got to go somewhere, and that certainly is enough volume to satisfy anyone.

I like the width, that really makes it a good wave entry board because the surface area keeps it on top of the wave.

What it does on the wave with too much volume is a secondary consideration, and is probably of no consideration at all if you can never get on a wave in the first place.

Put $472 on the bunnies and when they win that will pay for it

Just be aware that at 4 inches thick and 24 wide it will be hard to get you arm around it when carrying it. Maybe get one of your 666 mates to put a hand hold in it

So if I can get a custom for $1300 - $1500 then why would I go a stock board unless I was a real impatient pr1ck and wanted it yesterday ?
I can wait 4-6 weeks anyway no probs as I'll be hanging for the water temp to head north for boardies/rashie comfort.
Custom vs stock ?

well if you can wait , start ringing shapers mate see what the diff is for yourself - there's plenty advice up above us here
Stock = you get what you see on the shelf
Custom = you get what you want specifically
Stoke = when the above two are around the same in coin and you're rapt with her
