I tried winging 860R in very light wind 6-9kt using 7M Ozone Fly and 7'2" DW board.

Need to pump the wing hard on gust to get to take off speed and once it went up it glide so good and need very little wind to keep going.

Can jibe on 6kt lull very easy just glide no need to hurry. This is my most efficient foil I have.

I'm 95kg, currently on Axis Spitfire (840,900,960) for mostly wing in surf, wing downwind (maui conditions) and some prone. I'm tempted to make a jump to Code, thinking 850S... wondering how sizing compares for my weight, any thoughts if anyone has them comparing what I'm on to Code.

I felt the code s series felt slightly larger than the size suggests. Similar to the Spitfire 900/960 I'd wager.

They are very lifty for their size. Demo if you can. With solid wind and swell 720s would be good. @100kg plus I use the 720 in 15 knots and up.

Yeah agree with Hilly the Codes lift for the cm2 is really high especially with the R's . My personal stats 860r similar Lift to the 980s but even better pump . 770r similar lift to 850s with turbo glide . Not sure how they do it with such high Aspect ratios but still manage low stalls . Sort of defeats physics.

Thanks for the great feedback. Super helpful- especially from guys same weight range. There's no local dealer here, don't know anyone on code, so I'm kinda shooting blind. I'd heard/read more low end lift than you'd expect for the size, but thats crazy. Sounds maybe the safe bet for all around is S series- thought of being on a 720 cm2 @ 95kg is freaking nuts and tempting.

I am 94kg and dw on the 720S a few times in 25 knots plus and it's plenty of lift. Starts are no problem. Prefer the 770R when it's super windy but. Seems to cut through all the chop better and makes for a smoother ride. Def no issues with those 2 wings even for the heavier dudes.

Any issues with the 2 M6 bolts on the mast to fuse connection? The mast foot is beefy but doesn't have a super tight fit with the fuselage so seems like the bolts will still take some of the load.

Put some of this tape on either side of the flat section of your mast. Will make the connection snug again. I've only ever needed one piece on each side.

Thanks, I was really hoping to get out of the tape game -- I had to do this with other set ups. My Code kit is brand new so is a kind of a bummer. Oh well, maybe it won't matter.

no issues for me with the two M6 bolts. They don't seem to take any stress, and don't loosen up. And I break everything I've ever bought. Time will tell I guess, but it all looks good to me

No mine is too tight need a rubber hammer to take off. Take back to your retailer.

I'm riding a new code rig (amazing) and the mast to fuselage connection is very very snug. I would take it back to your retailer.

I also thought with only 2 M6 it wasn't going to be a very solid connection but after a dozen or so sessions nothing has come loose. A tip I picked up was to give the front wing a good flex while tensioning the bolts to make sure it's seated correctly.

Thanks all for confirming that the Code mast to fuse connection should be tighter than what I am seeing in my rig. Appreciate it. Discussing with retailer.

Thanks Dwight that's a great video. I've been playing around with the new 120R tail on the prone , I actually bought it for towing & DW but this thing is pretty mental on the prone. For something that looks like a butter knife in real life it has insane lift on the prone and the Foildrive . It actually has more start and lift on the FD than 158AR the board just accelerates so fast on a flat water start it's crazy and you think to yourself how is this possible .It doesn't have the same bottom end as the 158 but the glide and extra speed of the 120 is really noticeable . Turning wise on the prone is good but push it too tight it planes up. I'm tempted to chop it but I won't as everything else is just so good and I spoke to Marcus and a 110 is in the pipeline but aways off yet. DW this thing will be unmatched but definitely for the gun paddle up crew . Other than that it's a "Add To Cart" item for sure. I tested on the 850 & 980S

I did my best to put the blinders on, not pay attention to the hype, but in a weak moment I got sucked in, went over the falls... pulled the trigger on my 1st Code w/ a 980S and 158AR tail. I haven't tried it prone yet, but have now done 4 days on it winging, riding it in whatever conditions as I'm wanting / trying to get it tuned/dialed in. I'm freaking mindblown at this foil and its range. 1st day was blowing 28kts. Awesome. Fast, glide++, turns better than expected, intuitive and user friendly. Days 2 and 3 were super gusty & nuking: 30s gusting into the mid to high 40s. Obviously not ideal conditions to figure it out, or what this foil is for, but was totally doable and fun although a bit on the edge the whole time. Today was blowing 13-15... super easy to get up, speed, glide for days. What the hell.... could actually use the 980 as a one foil quiver at my weight.

But I won't

My only issue has been not being able to feel completely comfortable/confident to fully commit, lay into turns due to it feeling nose down, more back footed than I like- this with it slammed all the way forward in the boxes and my foot-straps all the way back. Today I shimmed the base 2 degrees and that helped a lot, but I still had to ride with my foot a few inched back from the strap. So ultimately I think this is the push to finally update my board, do something longer, narrower, less volume with boxes further forward.

Anyhow- pretty frothy on this foil. Summer winds are here for winging and south swells for the prone, so I'm debating my next, a smaller code foil for my 95kg. Leaning 720S, but the hyper glide of a 770R does tempt. Might have to island hop to go do a demo.

To determine if tracks work on your board, put feet on the deck. Mark rear foot position. Flip board over and determine if mast can be located centered under rear foot.

Riding, your rear foot will float between centered over mast, to centered over leading edge of mast.

I'm no Code expert so if this wrong, please someone correct me... the back footed pressure sounds like maybe you are overpowering the foil and would be better off on less front wing, but you might try shimming the stab with a lift at the front screw. codefoils.com/support/downloads/

Yeah, 2 of the days I was on it were definitely not in the 980s ideal range and I think that can happen with some foils, but I don't think that's the main issue in this case. The foil is super consistent, solid across the speed range- doesn't pitch with speed increase or drops into waves. But if anything, I was feeling slightly more rear-footed, back leg fatigue, in light wind/ 15 and a little less when it was cranking in 30s. My previous foils lived about an 1-1/2" more to the rear. I started there, then eventually had it slammed all the way forward. The base shim actually made a more significant change in feel than moving the mast. Note: The board deck is dead flat in relation to the boxes- I had a .5 shim w/ previous setup. I started with no shim, then tried 1 degree and am now at 2 degrees feeling really close to balanced. I've no worries, it's all part of the normal process of learning, tuning a new setup to all the variables of different boards/rider/etc.

I had board pretty dialed/balanced with axis foils on the board w/ .5 b are shim @ about 1" further back in tracks for my small foils, 1-1/2" back for my largest with my foot aligned to forward edge of mast. As thinned out as the Codes are in comparison, I'm not surprised it wants to be more forward, my foot more back for a similar balance/feel.

Nowinder, testing the 1075/135 glide on no wind but some mixed up ground and wind swell.

I can go super slow and still have the ability to catch and follow the faster swell.

Hardly a bump to be found anywhere in that clip- just muted underlying energy. As is often the case- know it ain't as easy as that looks but for the junky- being able to go on days like that pretty much opens up any day.

Another note: Completely dialed my 980S yesterday. I was already happy but I found the sweet spot for this foil, my board/weight. I tried 2.5" of rake w/ base shim- took it to another place. Stand relaxed, solid-balanced, speed/glide up another notch and the turns dreamy. On rails no pitch rise- slingshot out of the turn. Pumps amazing.

It's interesting how the new trend in wing boards is to add some rocker. Aside from initial take off, I've never found anything good about riding nose down. Glad you've got it dialed. Did you mean 2.5 mm base shim or actually 2.5" of rake from 90 deg?
