I will be at the normal island for 3 weeks. Mine won't be ready for show and shine on the decks anyway but down below is nearly complete..

Forward cabin door is now refitted and just about complete minus paint and clearcoats on the door.
Ended up keeping the piano hinge but concealed it a bit with a timber trimming. Added a magnetic $8 latch as to $180 for a mechanical door handle.

You nearly got that mortise to fit ! The photos are not super clear but is there a slight bulge near the handle ? ........... looks good SA good result !!

Well I had a successful day. Recovered my anchor. It was really dug in and someone had tried to recover it and had no success and just cut off the rope. When I found it it was just a little pile of chain mostly buried in the sand. The shank was well down. Took 15 minutes of hard yackka to get it out.
Second swim found my mooring and marked that. Third swim was an underwater inspection of Ramona. Paint missing off the bottom of the keel and a bare patch on either side of the hull where she rested on the side. Back edge of the keel has a nick from where the anchor rope wore through. Couple of marks on the topsides that will clean off.

Is that clearer for your viewing preference Sands? Glasses perhaps. The "bulge" is where the magnetic catcher plate is . Where the router starts and stops.

Unfortantly but fortantly the shipwright scarfed the ply to use up the scrap ply from the bi-fold doors we are fitting , I'm tempted to replace that section and clear coat the lot but maybe can paint and make my mind up in the future. Arrrhhh decisions. I love boats.

yep my vote is to pick that panel out in paint .....but not the d mold over the piano hinge

Well that's easy as it's been coated in everdue maybe in the future I might replace it with new ply and clear coat will see what it looks like in "new leaf" first. And after I pay the shipwright! God dam

We Fitted half the bi-fold door fitted today, it's been a bit of a drama this job!

A good day to be clear coating and painting doors in the aircon today! 39degrees outside!

Hey SA, what are you useing for that inside clear / varnish ?

Used the bondall Jarah stain and varnish on the table and bondall teak stain and varnish on the door. Was thinking today should have used the Jarah all round but kinda liking the two tones now.
Will spray the last coat on the door see how it levels out. The only problem is you need to strip it back to bare timbers.

Ok she's an all in one brew. Got some cabin jobs coming up.
I've use the bondall spar varnish, on would you believe it spars and it didn't cope
by the way did you use that water based enamel on the deck ?

It has 3 year exterior guarantee . The Jarah stain had a marine stamp on the tin but the teak one didn't. I got a bit confused. But belive it's the same stuff diffrent tins, I used two pack undercoat on decks but will go to single pack under oats, satin white and kiwi grip for non skid.

I've tried allsorts of spar varnish / deck oil over the years and the best I found was a good batch of deks Olje ( some not so good for some reason ) ? Anyway flood don't make it anymore, Owatrol is the parent of the recipe I believe. I'm thinking to keep it simple an use it below decks too.
On deck I've been laying down fat coats of jotamastic ( the new 90 is tintable but still takes days to set properly ) and will trial kiwi for non slip
strange really, I'm happy with old school long oils for mast and spars, but two pot for all else ?

That cover strip on the door hinge has worked a treat, good solution there! Looking good!

Final pic job done .
Door fitted and finished the second coat of paint and clear coats will give it all a 3 rd coat after Christmas! Total coast $668 not including my labour and paints.

And now back to the bi-fold doors! I love boats!

i hade some clear panels to replace in my Bimini. Not the easiest job to start on. The original cracked up clears we're sewed in first then a zip and flap to block the UV below was sewn over afterward. Quite an elaborate design, and one makes it hard to replace clear.
so I just trimmed the old clear to the back to the hole opening, this left about 25mm of doubled over section of Sunbrella and old clear to sew through, whilst keeping clearance from the zip below.
that basting tape is brilliant, for amateurs like me!
after working out how to load up the machine with some black V92 thread, hardest part of the process! The little Sailrite chomped through the multiple layers with ease. 2 layers of clear, two of Sunbrella. I'm keen to knock up a cockpit cover next.

I'm really loving my doors magnetic locks on the forward door open or closed no latches feels so seaworthy and complete now,
i fittrd the latch over the weekend to the bi-fold And the shipwright will complete the aft port garage bi-fold door this week and Then I will apply the clear coats over the weekend! And then go cruising for 3 weeks over Christmas and New Years!

There was a post about suitable scondhand ones, but the complete kit was just over 1k landed, that was the full kit with lots of extra bits, well worth it in my mind. The Sailrite sews spot on out of the box, so great for a novice like me.
So I was going to ask, has anyone made some deck covers out of industrial quality shade cloth?
i want to replace the crappy bird net I currently have with a more professional and quicker to fit and take down series of deck covers.
i am wondering about the advantages of higher UV rating, versus windage on a swing mooring. I want to protect the gel coat, but worry the birds will poop on the covers, unless I get enough angle on them.
anyone tried it?

Have not made deck covers but Have made a few shade sails. The stuff sews well but make sure the fittings are good quality. They catch a lot of wind and the birds will crap on them just the same.

Replaced one of the older stanchions yesterday. Initially it was discoloured with no sign of cracks on the exterior, but was rotten inside, precipitated from previous overloading. Cracked under pressure when the sheets were on the life lines, but the solid side of the stanchion still provided quite a bit of structural support.

This is one of the last remaining ss items on my boat from a late '90s refit.

Picked up the new boat on Sunday and moved it over from Rose Bay.

Found lots of little jobs for the future, but jeez it was great to be out again on a boat of my own!

got some coolaroo waterproof shade cloth from Bunnings to make cockpit dropper/ curtains. It's run of the mill shade cloth with a plastic backing, might be a good product, time will tell the backing holds up
