Broughton Island will happen in the next month or two. Unfortunately for other potential crew my sister and her husband will be back in Sydney with their Valiant 40 next week and they will join me to go to Broughton.
LHI next year is a goer at this stage if I don't sell MB in the mean time.
If I don't use her over summer she is going to the best offer. I have too many hobbies which are a higher priority now and I'm over not using her.

The shipwright fitted the forward door today so now I don't have to make the bed every day!
Im not completly sure about the piano hinging although it matches the table hinges, the door handle is going to be the next mission! I so love boats!

I have to say southace, she is looking real comfortable.

I also have to say your new bedroom door is brilliant!! What better way can you carry around some ply sheet that might come in handy one day when you need to make an emergency rudder or..??

For that reason I suggest you use 2 or 3 lift off pin hinges with an R clip, on the top one. I also suggest that dinghy rudder pintles would make ideal hinges in light of my aforementioned potential secondary use of the door.

If you are lucky you can pick up some of that hardware cheap off Gumtree.

If you use piano hinge, prepare yourself for a hundred screws.

I put her red velour cushions back on board after picking them up from the upholstery shop where he put 42 buttons in them at $5 a pop.
I nearly came at his place but after taking all nine of them up the laddder, over the rail and into their place on the boat, standing back and looking at them, I nearly come again!!!

More wiring tomorrow.

On close inspection it looks like a lot of gear was the 38 year old original stuff and just about cactus, so I'm stoked that I decided to go as hard as I did.

A few more things to do and then "to infinity and beyond!" or more likely some local coastal trips.

Yep wish I had won lotto it would have really helped! The reason I can afford the re-fit is I reduced my dream boat expectations a fair bit, bought the smallest boat that would do what I planned in reasonable comfort and only spent around 60% of what I had available. I have been caught before by buying the biggest boat I could and then realising I needed serious dollars to get it in reasonable shape to go offshore.

I went with the Garmin ecomap 75cv and hope to link in a Raymarine AIS transponder soon as sailing past the port of Newcastle at night has caused me some serious stress. The wind gear was just a vane as the boat had Raymarine wind direction and speed already.

Moocher I hauled out at Oyster Cove Marine in Port Stephens. OH&S was not much of a problem and the guys in the yard let you do pretty much whatever you needed to. They were more than happy to share advice and really couldn't have been more helpful. At $900 total for haul in and out and pressure clean and $37 a day on the hard I was happy with the costs (for a 33 footer overall).

The boat is an Ericson Independence 31 designed by Bruce King. I fell for the classic plastic beauty at first sight!

It's the row away effect you have when you gaze back at your boat. That's a pretty boat! Bruce King designed the smaller Jarkans and they are not all that pretty.

What I've done in the last couple of days is try to recover Ramona off a sandbar in the river. Came off in the big blow. Nylon riser wore through on a new swivel. Had an abrasion sleeve but there was too much of a casting ridge on the swivel. Making another effort in the morning on a hightide. Hopefully the wind will ease.

I hope you have the best of luck with recovering Ramona. These winds are a beast up here too.

Wind has eased and I will be out there shortly waiting for the top off the tide. I set the anchor out into the deep water so Hopefully when she floats again she will be an easy recovery. I've rescued a few yachts from the same spot. Encapsulated keel and slack bilge shape means she does not mind laying on her side. In the height of the storm though at low tide with the waves breaking right across the cabin things look depressing!

Headed out this morning a couple of hours before high tide. I was planning on hauling her down with water containers from a spinnaker halyard but she was already floating upright! Unfortunately she was pointing into the bank in plenty of water but hanging onto the anchor rope caught around the keel. Current was screaming in and there was no way I could power her around. I decided to sit it out and wait for slack water and then just pull the anchor in. Almost got to taste the coffee when the anchor rope wore through on the back edge of the keel. I just motored off and picked up a spare mooring. So now I have a length of 14mm double braid, chain and my version of an SS Ultra sitting out there. Big tides for a few more days so there will be only be short periods of slack water to find this gear snorkeling. I should have just buoyed off the end of the anchor line and got it later!
The picture shows one end of the swivel. There are two rows of very sharp teeth that cut through the abrasion sleeve and the nylon riser. There was a tight fit around this ring and it looks like a form of crevice corrosion, there is no other metal near the swivel. This swivel is 9 months old. Mooring contractor suggests plastic tubing and I guess if it's not too tight a fit it would be OK.
