New wing from Reedin launching tomorrow. Looks to be the first wing to have an alternative to the standard canopy materials. Semi transparent to boot. I've heard some feedback and it's all good!

Now all we need is Aluula leading edge and this for a canopy.

Leading edge feels like the biggest weakness right now.

Biased review of course but this thing is just stupid fast, crazy upwind performance, and effortless tacks because of the low drag.
After a few sessions on it, I prefer the better low end and luffed flying of the standard canopy for surfing, but for efficiency else this absolutely destroys anything else I've tried! Also the handles are miles better than last gen; no more neoprene and way stiffer. Bag is oversized as usual, can easily fit my wing and pump inside.

Really excited to race this and ride it in light wind, it handles very tight apparent wind angles.

Increased weight?

Now we need someone to make leading edge from aluula, canopy x-ply and carbon boom - that would be perfect wing.

Yeh my main question revolves around weight for sure.

Yes it's expensive, but much cheaper than the Aluula wings. At least it offers some tangible differences, not just same old but better.

It will be interesting to see if the other manufacturers follow. I doubt if the patent pending red strip of cloth across the middle will stop them.

In ~6 months we'll know how the material holds up. There is no weight mentioned anywhere so most likely they're heavier or the same as avg wing on the market.

At this price range there is the same problem as with Aluula - virtually no second hand market, nobody will pay ~1k for used wing, so after buying it you stuck with it until the very end.

Regarding the Reedin, I just wonder how the stiffer canopy fabric will work with a standard strut and leading edge. In the Real video you can see the structure flexing which doesn't inspire my confidence.
I think I Would rather an aluula frame and standard canopy at the expense of durability, but it's an interesting question as to what makes more difference.

I went through this wing twice in a week and got pretty pissed about it. Hence I said screw it and just replaced half of it. I've since done the whole wing and my 5 & 6m - I don't have any photos of the finished job. I've done leach take ups from this point to fix the **** house leach flutter and added a luff patch.

I did this myself in 2 hrs before work, I rushed and did a very average job, so I asked the loft to fix the bad spots and overall finish the job. I purely didn't have the time. The sessions I have had with it, I've carried this to 25 knots with no issues.... In fact swapping down to a 4m was more taxing physically.

Any loft in Sydney should be able to do this. I used the second lightest CZ cloth, I wasn't keen on a taffeta - hence going for the next weight up. You could get this lighter still if you used the taffeta cloth, I just used what I knew well enough.


This wing was lighter to fly and more powerful than my standard canopy wings. If you ask nicely any loft should be able to pump this out for you in 3-4 hours.


I'm super keen to see brands follow the next stage in development, but I'm not really a fan of how expensive this is getting. If someone makes some 3Di Raw wings, yeah... those will be the absolute best. Make the leading edge and whole wing from it, and you'll never need a new one. It'll be more durable and more powerful than anything on the market now.
Sort of shocks me how most skiffs and even small yacht sails are now cheaper than wings. A full quiver of these will cost the same as a racing 52fter jib...

Thanks local sail maker here in Yamba is pretty good. There guys at local sailing club who spend plenty on a new boats like Impulses for 25 K+ my foiling kit hasn't cost 1/5 of that yet. My wings get me on foil and I can get in out of surf zone. When someone lends me better stuff it makes everything easier but I am happy to use the old gear for now.

Re an industrial machine, nah don't bother. This stuff is light and wings are light, you can get away with a pretty small machine, just make sure you back stitch and maybe might need to slow down in the corners so you don't snap needles.


Fabric is Code Zero cloth, designed for yacht reaching sails. Designed to be rolled up super tight and super stable shape. Next time you fly your wings, take a look at how bagged out they are. You'll be sad to see how short the life of these wings really is.

From what I'm hearing about aluula -- that for the first few sessions the wing feels great and then as the canopy starts to stretch the wing starts to feel more and more like a standard wing. Maybe someone who has used an aluula wing a number of times over the last couple of months can comment.

I awaiting a 4.7. I'll be sure to report back after it arrives.

Yes,this is a factor that is overlooked in all tests i have seen.
Standard wing canopy is made of Ripstop and inflatable bits made of Dacron.I think dacron is nylon&resin and ripstop is poliester&resin.
They both are almost waterproof when new but as the resin wears out they start absorbing water.

Aluula and Xply are waterproof and stay that way as far as i know.

Xply's caveat is weight, but i have seen interviews with the OR bossman in which he talked about an aluula based ripstop equivalent being developed,that would be the full Goldilocks wing :)

I've been on the all allula wing with allula windows as well-the material is there. The OR crew can make wings that are so next level it's hard to fathom with these materials. How to produce wings like this that are affordable is a whole other issue.

Regarding the wear in the Allula wings-i had one that had/has around 30 days on it. While the canopy certainly wasnt perfect crispy new after this time, the Frame retained its ability to take higher air pressures and retain stiffness.

Just f clarity, I don't work f OR. I have a blended quiver as I couldn't possibly afford a full quiver of those golden magic(science actually) wings lol.
