Longest wave ever at Q's late this arvo. South reef all the way into the beach, too many turns to count, countless head high+ reforms. Heart rate too high to head back out after smashing it at the beach, had to take a bloody break!
The season of all or nothing continues...

If your chasing bigger waves Brent, you might like to try tacking up to or launching from South Queens. It is not protected by the groin like North Queens so the swell can be larger in a strong southerly.

Hi dantren
I live local so get to see the best & worst of it. Yesterday I went for the late sail to get the rising tide+strengthening wind that push up the waves & scored a great session.
Assuming you are chasing a few waves,
like any spot without true ground swell it can be very hit and miss on any tide, plus Q's breaks all over the shop when it's on. 25knts is when the fun starts as it pushes up bay swell, SE wind is best & will drive 3-4m breaking rollers on a good cyclonic day into the northern bay. NE is also not to be dismissed. Rules of thumb
High tide+low wind = ordinary for waves, bit lumpy for general sailing
Low tide = a lot of fin loving reefs/rocks exposed & waves start breaking around 20-22knts

I don't think tidal movement plays into it much at Q's, size of the high & low definately. Generally though there's not too much to it in the northern bay. If it's over 25knts hit the water & charge at what the bay throws up. It's not dtl perfection but you'll be surprised what's out there

I've never seen "waves" at queens, just bump and jump condition. Happy to be proven wrong tho

90% of the time you're right Mr Boarder. But with modern gear, the alignment of Venus with climate change & plenty of dogs on the beach, over the last few years Qs has been having its fair share of

Just gotta be out there to get it.

What a weekend. 30-35 on Saturday, 25-30 on Sunday. Low tide and big shapely waves to gybe in. Best weekend ever.

So are there any likely out at Queens during the day this week? Need to get out and the highway travel up the coast is discouraged....

Rejoined the Queens Beach crew yesterday Sunday after 15 years away for a great sail in the mild southerly which might have started at 18 knots but eased in the afternoon. Nice to meet the cool sailboarders, maybe 8, and sail around with about 10 kiters in harmony.
The messy wave action and gnarly shore break reminded me where my injuries have come from, but I will be back.

What an unexpected late blast, the last warm NE before winter sets in? Pretty unusual to see so many isolators out & about at 'our' patch on a windy evening. Dogs, kids, full carpark. Wow

And water police action, lights, sirens, holy cow. Poor Hagar, never seen anyone get pulled over for speeding without nightlights on the water before. Legend mate

Apparently there had been a call that a kiter had gone MIA. Not sure if the 'kiter-down' call was a false one, haven't heard or seen anything since. Police were at the beach asking everyone if they had seen anyone missing & a police boat turned up at Queens on dusk. Most had exited the water by that stage, Hagar was last man on the water doing a last fast blast when sirens sounded, flashing lights went on & they had a word to him on the water while his cambered luff sleeve filed with water. All highly unusual for us regulars as a beach full of blow-ins watched on.

It might push in during the day Dantren. Tends to be 50/50 at this time of the year, in S/SE conditions keep an eye on what is happening with the windmarkers to the south. The wind will generally come through the GC & southern bay as it works its way north with reasonable predictability.
