FWIW I'm not an industry guy, and especially not a SBWH one.

Simple fact is that the Cjet was modelled on the WombatII by Beau Young, to me that gave it some cred, it was priced in my budget and has proven to be worth every cent I dropped on it at $450.

Still $200 less than the CWater that SP posted pics of, damn nice looking board, clean no gimmicks, no names dropped, and if I did have the extra coin I would have gone that way, or a Webber Double Diamond.

No doubt I'll bump into you somewhere on the west coast down south, you'll know it's me because I be carving circles around you on the lit up pop out Cjet ;-) (in my dreams).

Ok lets tee it up, I'd like to see you surfing rings around me. I'm working this weekend, but not next or during the week is fine after Wed. We'll ask a friend or 2 to judge each & even film/photo if your comfortable.

To make it interesting, I will only surf switchfoot on your board of choice provided its suitable to the conditions of the day. You can surf any board you like in any stance you choose provided the chosen board volume is not greater than the board you choose for me to use

I'm actually about to buy a surfboard wharehouse board mate and tossing up between carbon jet and the snub nose. Leaning toward snub nose at the moment. Just want something in between a mal and a shorty for when it's like waist to shoulder high. Don't suppose you got to try a snub nose at all?

Did ya watch the vid Captain, it rides likes a slug. The 6'9 Lynch board down the road from u would be way more versatile for almost $200 less available now on gumtree.

That's the new version of The Fountain Of Youth. I have a TFoY 6'10" and it's one of the most versatile boards I have owned.

Waist high Snapper, eight foot Port Fairy, 6-8 Mamas, those winter waves around Dunsborough. Great board.

Fat nose can get a bit how you doing when it's hollow and you are snapping it or dropping in late (seriously it is snapalicious), but that's to be expected I guess.

Haha, that was what I was going to buy. But I did the online chat thing about 3 times to get a recommendation. All came back at me with the CJet at 45L or the 6'4"

Went with the 6'10" due to my dodgy shoulder, an ummm a bit of extra ballast at 84kg and 54 years on the clock.

The CJet was the board of choice for the guys on line, and with the pedigree of the WombatII from which you t was fashioned I went that way.

Final clincher was the feel, putting my hands on her in the shop and seeing her lines. The glass job seems A1 but I haven't had much to do with glass work for a while. No thin patches or problems of warped stringers or blanks.

The plastic fins are average at best, entry level. If you check out the clips online you will see most have been surfed with a dialled in fin set. Hence my current obsession with fins.

Whatever you drop coin on try to put hands on it first. If it doesn't speak to your soul move on.

And it might be worth looking at a Clearwater like the one posted up earlier. Depending where you are. If it comes with a dialled in set of fins that's good value as well. Never handled one or seen it in the flesh though.

Thanks mate BY does look as smooth as butter riding the Cjet in the vid on the website. Problem is that dude could ride a fridge door ha ha. Looks to have a retro ish planshape too which I like

fins ah fins. Got a fin chop on my foot just before New Years. Was with expensive fibre glass futures. Very stiff fins and pretty sharp. Hurt but wasn't concerned and even surfed the next day. Then it Got seriously infected 2 days later and ended up spending 2 weeks in hospital plus having surgery to fix it. Pumped full of antibiotics 24/7. Didn't walk for 3 weeks. Walking now with crutches but not good enough to go back to work yet. Blown away infection could get so crazy.
so after that I actually quite like the idea of plastic fins ha ha

Clearly a lot happened while I was at work today slaving away on my computer.

1) There is going to be a surf off
2) Couple more boards for me to look at.
3) solid banter
4) Please announce surf off location and time rules of engagement if there's a bbq
5) we might have to do a west coast surf day at some point

If the surf is cooking everyone jumps on once a week or two and says yep it's been good

if it's been like it's been for the last month in town you can hear the seabreezers banging away on their keyboard in rage from the other side of the city.

Its been pretty decent out of town though and a few of the islands had a good run through December

Its been pretty decent out of town though and a few of the islands had a good run through December

FWIW I'm not an industry guy, and especially not a SBWH one.

Simple fact is that the Cjet was modelled on the WombatII by Beau Young, to me that gave it some cred, it was priced in my budget and has proven to be worth every cent I dropped on it at $450.

Still $200 less than the CWater that SP posted pics of, damn nice looking board, clean no gimmicks, no names dropped, and if I did have the extra coin I would have gone that way, or a Webber Double Diamond.

No doubt I'll bump into you somewhere on the west coast down south, you'll know it's me because I be carving circles around you on the lit up pop out Cjet ;-) (in my dreams).

Basic of questions hey? Yeah I'm back into the water after a 20 plus year break due to a shoulder injury that I have only recently been able to afford to fix, yeah I ask a lot of questions about different designs to come up to speed, yeah I am curious about what works for others and why?

Ok lets tee it up, I'd like to see you surfing rings around me. I'm working this weekend, but not next or during the week is fine after Wed. We'll ask a friend or 2 to judge each & even film/photo if your comfortable.

To make it interesting, I will only surf switchfoot on your board of choice provided its suitable to the conditions of the day. You can surf any board you like in any stance you choose provided the chosen board volume is not greater than the board you choose for me to use

Nah my competitive days are a distant memory and nostalgia. Kinda weird jumping back into it though, stupid brain thinks that I'm 16 again and that I should be able to smack the lip like I did back then. Still something to aspire to but never regain.

Which is partly why I opted for a mid length board. Figured I'd slot into smooth and mellow styling rather than radical carving.

Hopefully the CJet can make that happen. Especially with a twinny set up or maybe quads.

Lot's of experimenting and fun to be had.

fins ah fins. Got a fin chop on my foot just before New Years. Was with expensive fibre glass futures. Very stiff fins and pretty sharp. Hurt but wasn't concerned and even surfed the next day. Then it Got seriously infected 2 days later and ended up spending 2 weeks in hospital plus having surgery to fix it. Pumped full of antibiotics 24/7. Didn't walk for 3 weeks. Walking now with crutches but not good enough to go back to work yet. Blown away infection could get so crazy.

I've been out for near on 20 years with a busted shoulder and the Wunderlist of waves has never left me.

Been trying to regain the muscle memory by surf skating. It's an awesome thing riding a Carver or Smoothstar at the local skatepark.

BY yeah your right, he could surf a fridge door. Seems to generate power and speed from nowhere. Surfskate training is great for that as well.

Ok. I have a 6'6" that I've ridden 4-5 times. Couple of times as a quad (Switchblade quads by Mitchell Rae - Outer islands). It was in sucky beachbreak waves which had me just making the drop on some and having to go straight due to the lack of nose rocker. Was good but felt something was missing.
Rode it with a 6" Spitfire single fin (looks just like a Spitfire wing - custom made by Phil from Fluid foils) which felt so good for effortless trim but lacking the hold in turns. Put in bonzer siderunners in the front quad plugs and better but still slidey on the turns.
Current fin configuration is the 2+1 pictured. Waves were ****e but potential to be a good set up.
The board has great glide on fatter waves so can connect sections. Good wave catcher but not effortless.
My take on the board shape is its a copy of a Takayama scorpion 2 whereas the older fountain of youth was a copy of the original scorpion.
I like the wider tail in the snub as the Sunshine coast (well my local) is generally pretty gutless and I figured it was good for fat high tide waves.
Yet to put my fave Soar twins in it but could be really fun.

Moral to the story.

Ride what the hell gives you the best bang for your buck.

If it's not working for you mix it up or move it on.

SBWH, Board Cave, ECS, custom or whatever. Each will suit a rider at the skill level they are at and the conditions they ride at some stage.

I'm just into the CJet but already eyeing off a Webber Diamond, Miller SubX, or maybe one of those Clearwaters at $650.

But that's gonna take at least a couple of years to get to, so for now I'll enjoy what I've got.

Please put the Soars in and report back.

Was going to pull the trigger on some Sanctum twins but can't shake the lust for the Soars.

Suppose I could easily refoil the Sanctums down to the Soar profile if I don't like them?

As for rocker it looked like the Snub had less than the CJet, another reason I went CJet with a bit more length.

When I ran the 2+1 it was riding like straight like a train on tracks. Fairly hard to crank around on the drop-in to engage the rail and avoid shovel nosing on steep sucky bank breaks.

The quad set up I'm using really loosened the tail up so that I can swing around much easier. But if cranked too far will let got suddenly.

Hoping that with the Soars and the trailer this balances out for the best of both worlds.

I know the board shape has good potential, can feel it get up and go on a good section. Just need to dial it in.

Likely similar with the snub nose.

We sold a few and it didn't make much coin so we only did it on the side as a hobby. So as far as Aussie made boards go my hats off to all those guys who can still earn a living from it, but the reality is that SBWH boards are made better than what we made and pretty much most others back in the late 70's.
