Unlike your guess, they have done studies on shark numbers, no they don't have 100% accurate answer, but at least they have done studies and all those point to a low numbers still. Its time to start to think smart and try and actually find an answer. The current response is what you wanted, a political fix..thats all the nets will be. NSW has been culling sharks since 1937 and yet attacks..You cant walk away from those statistics.

Well maybe some will try but then will they also say Vic Hislop also is wrong? i thought he was the guru..Nets are not the answer and id suggest it will even be interesting if they make it too water..Its a political stunt at best from Baird..

The best option would be, if people aren't prepared to take responsibly for themselves entering the water, close those beaches temporary for a period, until a workable result can be found.

Thanks for your well construced reply JB, I was expecting a decent chunk worth of abuse from you but was plesantly suprised at your considered approach.

You know what I actually do feel better after venting. I'm going to go get a six week cold pressed kale and quinoa program for only $99 from my local retailer to complete the picture. Hopefully I'll lose some weight and look a hell of a lot less like a friggin seal.

I am always open to face to face meetings, beer consumption and voicing opinions. PM me for a chat or just turn up at my pre mentioned local surf break and ask for the guy who wants to kill harmless, magestic animals.

Not really, as they won't tell you the full details. You don't know which shark is which shark. It could be simply a different one each time. NSW fisheries have tagged nearly 60 new sharks in the last few months. If your interested, have a look at Tag for Life. Its a page that is run by a bloke who helps raise funds for shark research with CSIRO. He lists detailed movement of sharks and their numbers, to try and help provide some answers from what they are doing. Its worth remembering though, tagging sharks is not completed for public safety. It is being used alongside but it primary goal is to help give some idea on whats happening. I think every shark bar one, tagged at Ballina has hot footed out well down into Victorian waters..

You may already know that, but maybe a few others didn't, its a great site and Kent is doing some wonderful stuff to try and help..

So basically in the last few months they have had 60 opportunities to remove potential man eaters and didn't.

Makes you wonder if any of these tagged sharks have been associated with any incidents?

Most of the sharks tagged have been juveniles, less than 3m . But that seems to be what is attacking in Northern NSW, un like WA we had big sharks 3.5 m plus..

Thats an intersting question regarding tags, a lot of that the info available on the Tag for life page..My understanding is no sharks have ever been implicated in a attack that is tagged. Even Sean Pollards attack, one of the sharks they killed was tagged, but fisheries confirmed that the shark couldn't be linked to the attack.

The only other one i can think of, is the shark that washed up in Geraldton was tagged..

Tagged sharks do hang in area. D.P.I has tracks of them. Tagged sharks have been recaptured by 'smart drums'. My mate is helicopter pilot shark spotter. He believes the bite before last was the same same shark responsible for a previous attack. They have clear close photos of both and size and feature matched but can't be 100% certain. It's over 3m. The bull sharks can be scared off by the helicopter but the whites don't give a rats. On a lighter note I was in the water today same time as Owen Wright who was absolutely shredding. It was murky ugly fun.

I have been monitoring the "glass barbie" juveniles who live a few doors down for a while now. There was an opportunity to "tag" one of them yesterday arvo when I walked the kids home from school .
Pity the kids were there.

One thing I do know is that if these pricks arent dealt with soon , they are going to cause a real problem for society.

Would it be ok with the tree huggers if I did a bit of my own "catch and release" ?
Seems that the only issue here is with the laws that protect these animals!

Anyway its 2016 Gone Fishing Day on Sunday and Im calling OPEN SEASON!

I actually asked the question of recapture.

Here is one recent example. Also we do get large whites here. 4+ metres. Without going into too much detail, 1 death was a bite from neck to knee.. another was the whole bottom of torso. I don't want to get involved in an Internet thing. I appreciate everyone has a right to differing opinions of options.

Good morning folks.Four new transmissions in,all from NSW with some of the recently tagged animals appearing on the radar.First up
Shark 37,Boambee Beach Coffs Harbour,Male,2.64m,2/8/16.
Having spent most of its time in the waters along the Northern Rivers coast since first tagged and released at Coffs Harbour in August,it has in the past few weeks made its way south.As of yesterday its position was inner shore near Forster..The plotted point on the map shows it inland from the coast..While it is possible this shark could have found its way in to the estuary system, it is unlikely but, certainly not too be discounted so ocean users please take note in this area..
Shark 38,Sharpes Beach,Female,2.15m,9/8/16.
It continues to focus on the waters off Sth Stradbroke Island,its last recorded position was offshore east of Point Lookout.
Shark 50,Ballina,Male,2.2m,1/10/16
One of the recently tagged animals,it has shown the usual behaviour by leaving the area it was caught almost immediately.
This shark initially headed north to the waters off Byron Bay and then Pottsville before turning south again.It passed Ballina and its last position was offshore east of Evans Head.
The final report comes from
Shark 54,Ballina,Female,3.68m,4/10/16
One of the largest animals to be tagged this year,it has also fled the area where it was caught and headed south.
Its last recorded position was offshore between Scotts Head and Nambucca Heads.
What has become apparent with nearly all the sharks tagged in the NSW program so far is they have appeared outside of river mouths and estuaries for periods long enough to enable points to be plotted.
This confirms these systems are pivotal to their feeding habits and easy sources of food flushed in to the ocean.
It further highlights the need to either avoid surfing,swimming or diving near these areas or at the very least be hyper vigilant.
It is widely acknowledged where one shark is sighted in an area there will more than likely be more than one..

When it was not.illegal to.put shark hooks on every 10th cray pot ohhhh we did.......
There was.300 boats with 100 pots each in the water or 3000 shark hooks a day on the west coast....
