I made it down to perth's favourite beach this afternoon at the crack of 2:30pm. I was hoping for a solid afternoon of good waves after seeing the graphs. Unfortunately, with a strongly dropping tide (I can't think of any other reason) it was almost flat despite the 0.75m swell. I only stayed for 2 hours it was so bad. Quite a few people turned up too, so that made it harder to want to stay. I can't really hassle when it's 6", and hordes of kooks were frustrating me. No banks again, straighthanders. I did get a few waves right at the beginning, but after about 30min it seemed to drop right off.

Spewin, I surfed about half an hour away and scored a usually crouded break with only four others out and shoulder to head sets every 5 mins

Last time I went on a 0.9m Cott swell it was flat. Last winter I went and it was a dropping 1.3m swell and it was OK then flat. I'm not going again unless it's 1.5m+, which means there'll be maybe one day all year that I'd be willing to go if I'm lucky.

On a related note, I'm concerned about the swell this year. Maybe there's something wrong with the buoys, because the swell just doesn't seem to be matching what I'm seeing at the beach.

Its not the swell , its the full tides atm and lack of sand early in the season I think.
Pacience my brother, it will be cracking this time next month

Maybe someone's attached a SwellShield to my board when I wasn't looking, bit like those SharkShield things. Not one decent day this year yet, always small.

I don't know any breaks further north in the metro area, never go past the pt. And you can't have been south of me, no way in the world bigger waves were coming through further south. I did see a guy on the Ch10 news as the intro to the weather on a bigger wave than I saw. There were other people in the background including a swimmer, so must've been a beachbreak somewhere. I couldn't work out where it was with the camera looking down on a steep angle and no background and not long enough footage to recognise the wave. A left.

I haven't been in the water for a while [}:)]. I was optimistic last Sunday arvo and went for a 1hr look at a couple of winter spots but the water was very deep and there were no banks at all. Fair bit of swell, almost enough. There was a very occasional wave in the strong crossshore but you had to be in the right place at the right time. The most interesting thing at my local was there was only one or maybe two guys who could surf and just utter, utter kooks the rest, more than I've ever seen. Dunno where all the locals were, maybe shivering up at the carpark like me. I should've gone out anyway but wussed out.

I went to Sandtrax as well (don't care about naming it since I only surf it on weekdays and on weekends it's just ridiculous with kooks, especially now that the other neighbouring spot is gone). It was just dumping on shallow beach, but there were a couple of waves. No banks. I'm a bit scared of surfing there this winter since the water's always so crappy anyway and this year it'll be full of god-knows-what as well. You always feel so dirty getting out after a surf there. I try not to fall in the water. I wouldn't want to drink any for sure. I'd like to know any results of testing the water there, especially after storms. Scary stuff.

Monday I went to work early with the intent of going out all arvo but the forecasts shafted me. I should've surfed early instead as it went onshore at lunch and I didn't bother going to look. Might've been a few banks at various beaches though, more than there have been.

Today I was surprised it was so calm before 7am. I reckon you might've got a sneaky hour or so if you were super early. Later on I was also surprised to see people out at my local despite the deep water and awful conditions. I'm hopeful the storm will wash up some sand.

I'm pinning my hopes on tomorrow. Early work, early knock-off hoping it's glassy in the afternoon.

Most probably get some on Saturday too, although I dunno if I'm up for the crowd. Might head for my "secret" metro spots and hope some banks have formed. Got uncrowded (mostly just me really) waves all last winter with a bit of snooping around. Sacrificed quality for quantity and no hassles but still some alright waves. Actually I had plenty of days just me when the conditions suited the locations.

Sunday not sure at this stage. Might be OK but I can't get out before lunch. I don't mind strong northerlies in certain locations at this time of year especially on a low tide. You get these mini QLD style right hand wind waves at certain spots and can get a few decent ones. Maybe late arvo with the low tide and give the wind a chance to whip up a few.

Next week, see what pans out.

I'll be sure to drop in on you if that's where I end up. Friday afternoons aren't the best because everyone manages to knock off early and there's a flood of people, not to mention the schoolies. By 5pm I should be well and truly pissed off. At least I'll get there (much) earlier and hopefully get a few uncrowded waves beforehand. Might not even make 5pm.

I'm very tempted to head to Kearnsy-land today. Doesn't look like much of an improvement in banks at my usual haunts. We'll see.

Was off sick with the flu - so drove along the coast (9:30) to see what was going on after yesterday's storm... Since it was NNE, started off North... Mullaloo point was not working - full of weed and closing out...worse at main c/park. Grabbers was a mess with only 1 out... First and Second reef Watermans nothing special at all - no one out. Toms and Mettams had a fair crew - pushing head high on sets, but again nothing special. The Point was OK - but second carpark was by far the cleanest and some overhead L & R peaks - about 10 -12 out picking off a few with shape...

Would have liked to been out - but didn't want to have a coughing fit and drown!

I was in Kearnsy's backyard today. I paddled out while doggie was eating his lunch and had a decent session. For some reason there were about 3-4 times as many people 100m away but the peak I was at was never more than a handful and as few as 2-3 others. There were a few nices waves, about 2', but it dropped through the floor as time went by. I'm sort of stupid and stayed sitting where the earlier sets were coming through so I had a big lull at the end.

When I was leaving there were a couple of youngish guys who had all the gear. They walked left, they walked right. Finally they tried to paddle out through some of the thickest weed I've ever seen where there were no waves. Eventually one of them made it out and I kept getting changed etc. I looked again and one guy was in the middle of the weed patch totally smothered in weed. If it wasn't shallow he would've been in trouble. I decided to go down and see what was up because I couldn't watch the kid drown. I had a chat to a couple of guys who were having a beer and laughing at them, they reckoned the kids were probably stoned. The kid made it back out and wasn't looking at me on the beach so I walked back up to the carpark and then watched him get washed in on the rocks. Another hairy situation. Oh well, hopefully he's OK.

Tomorrow, not sure. Swell's disappeared.

Today kind of sucked. I went to the usual beachbreak and it wasn't really happening. At least, it seemed to be in the distance all the time but never where I was. I paddled around a bunch but didn't luck into anything much worthwhile. Conditions weren't really good, banks suck. Hopefully a few more storms improve things but it's a poor start to winter so far.
