Wow sorry to hear that,did they upset you still awesome guys who make unreal boards.

I had a look at the McT website last night and noticed they seem to be more focused on retro style boards these days. My view is that they're an iconic Australian brand and always have been. Its a bit rude to knock them when you have a look at some of the massed produced gimmicky boards coming out of Asia.

Not mocking, just saying my opinion.

I own two McT's and think they are great boards just personally think they are heading in the wrong direction with their business model.

Gotta say I agree with Mchenry here, Mctavish make amazing boards but I just don't get why they are marketing to the hipsters when they make the most expensive boards on the market??? they're trying sell $2000 Logs to guys that want to spend $70 and buy a beat up old pig from a garage sale... Perplexing to me as their market is really rich guys that rock up in a Lambo to surf, which is a great market as they have tons of cash...

I think McT are just keeping up with the trend. I've noticed even down this way that performance style long boards are kind of being pushed aside in favour of heavily glassed traditional single fins. I can imagine that in places like Byron or Noosa that traditional style single fin logs would out number more performance style longboards.
Some people ride boards that are in fashion and that seems to be a lot of people. So if McT are more focused on marketing traditional style boards then so what ? Who cares ? They're obviously on a winner and people are buying them.

I'm a fan of "Endless Progression"
As we see the demise of the iconic local surf brands/shops etc I think McTs way of promotion is a good business model..that said I'm not a marketing guru but I know a lot about sales and Bob has done a very good job at surrounding himself with people who know how to survive in the surf business..it is a business not a lifestyle to those guys.
Just my humble opinion

Will be interesting to see how they go with their new line of beaver tail wetties though...

It says a lot about the Aussie surfboard industry and typical shopper when a bloke that has been shaping since the 60s has to sell tshirts and coffee to make a dollar..

Cottage industry SP,I was apart of one for years very hard to make a living in Australia and Australian made unfortunately.
