jerry rig a new winglet....been there done that...

use the other side winglet as a template

go get some thin sheet metal from homedepot trace the winglet out and cut it out...then epoxy it to theend of the wing and youve got you own new winglet...ive fount Original JB weld works the best because you can sand it down to match the original foil shape that the winglet had...JB quick tends to crack after a while

ive reprepaired at least 3 winglets this way m super hard on equipment..

finished!...still kinda ugly but i was in a rush to go surf...but ugly or not IT WORKS!

it's not available for the moment here and may cost more than my kai tail on the market...

I think back in this thread (or on a thread Dommo created) a number of folks just drilled and threaded the fuselage to mount the tails directly and it worked well...

Thanks! I find many advise...from foilsleeve and many more...i'll check if i can add an insert at the end of my fuselage and still fit the 9.5 pedestal upper...

Yup, that was latest advice,to tap a 2nd hole in fuselage and attach it directly.

You can also make yourself a pedestal with some mold release, epoxy, and fibreglass/carbon scraps. That's on another thread here somewhere too.

It's easy, and you can either make your own stabs or alter the spacing to use Axis etc.

I drilled a second hold in the fuselage like the image above. Drill, tap, helicoil. Super easy to do.

However, I've since gone back to the short pedestal. I felt the tail was too far forward and pitch stability was really twitchy. Totally ride-able, and even pretty fun on the right waves - but for most waves it made it really hard to nail the drop and transition across the face without nose planting or breaching. the long pedestal is tool long, direct mount too short, and the short pedestal is just right for me.

So, i read all what you said...and i made a custom short pedestal with my kai tail
and put an insert at the end of fuselage

Still fit with my 9.5 pedestal

I've been playing around with flat tails on a diy pedestal for a while, still not quite dialed in. But something I discovered a few sessions ago: I didn't properly account for the taper of the fuselage core, so my pedestal has a built-in negative angle of attack. I added some shims to back holes and it completely changed how it rides. Not yet enough TOW to figure it out, but there is definitely some experimentation to be done. FYI...something you may want to play around with.

I use washers cut from credit card, it's thin and incompressible to change the angle of the tail ... otherwise in mylar to be thinner

Double that. I was searching around for some shims that were THINNER than metal washers. I was whining about it and Jeff Clark reached into the sleeve of his wetsuit and handed me a chip 5 mm x 10 mm made from a credit card. I have been using this as a shim for the past 3 months. Helps to add 'UP' elevator.

Hey Streamroller: finally got around to fixing my NL wingtips. I asked GoFoil what they do, they suggested just using carbon and cloth, so I gave that a go. Made a plywood jig to get the angle. Laid it up one side with a couple small squares of carbon, then covered with cloth. Once cured, I laid up other side the same. Used a paper template to get the shape, then carved it to suit with a dremel. Worked pretty good. Until I smashed it again 2 sessions later in the shore pound winging, broke it off again, and cracked the other side landing on it in a wipeout. So now doing it again, but this time building in some kevlar scraps...bullet proof! (yeah, no, don't think so, I anticipate I'll be doing i his repair again, and again).

For what it's worth the short ped and the fuse are the same angle.
Can also run the long pedestal upside down but the angles are a bit funky to work out. Catches a heap less Fod.
Try the fibre washers, same thickness as the stock but very easy to sand down.

did you vaccuum bag that tip or compress the epoxy and cloth to get it tight?...or just lay it on...i was gonna try that way too if my way didn't work...definitely need a jig to get the angle right...also will absolutely need a good setup like that the tips are soooooooo fragile

Just laid it on, with heavy sheet plastic over and taped. Didn't vacuum but good idea ... I have given up on vacuum for board building, for now, but that would be an excellent use for it. Given immediately breaking them off again I expect I'll be doing this again LOL.

Jig is just a 1x4 with a chunk of plywood screwed on at the correct angle, easy peasy.

Who is gonna let us know about the T.K.R. foils?

one of these days we need someone to completely cut the tips off an NL and tell us if it still works fine. I'm threatening to do it if I blow one up again, I'm 3 repairs in on my 220.

I think you're the prime candidate. Just cut it off. Replace one is probably the same as replacing two.

People have cut the tips off no problems. Still works just fine.

Only a few getting around at present and only the 80. Think they are doing 4 sizes.
From what I've heard they are epic - fast - manoeuvrable and controlled.

Yep, like I said in August in the second post in this thread, these winglets have negligible positive value, and lots of downsides.

Newest progression project says he sanded the tips on the Takuma half off with no effect.
