i loaned out my NL190 so cant compare right now...will let you know once i get it back this week....but at 170 should be great on the NL190...

wait we're talking about SUPfoil right? ....because the NL190 on a prone board works too for me but i actually prefer the NL160 for prone board because of the turning ability

I've been doing 360's on waves with the 1150 Axis for a while now. I think all high aspect foils will do it. Easy way to learn it is pump away from a wave and then just hold your turn in the flat water and you'll just spin. Once you do that then just start the spin before the wave and you'll carve with the wave. You can also 360 on the wave and go for the next wave behind it. The flat high aspect foils also allow you to get up on shore break and then ride down the back of the wave to get the wave behind it.

If I ever get out at the same time as Steamroller we'll race each other with gopro's running haha. He has a paddle and I don't, but I weigh a lot less so it should be fair :)

Pretty sure the GL's are faster than the Axis 900/1000 series so the NL are bit more again.

Yes NL & GL definitely quicker than Axis 90 or 100 but the new Axis 91 would go pretty close to GL for speed but from all reports in HI the NL is very quick. The biggest problem with the NL's is actually getting one.

NL is amazing. Fast and super controllable. Extremely versatile. I've actually found the low speed to be pretty on par with the GL, just need to treat it a bit more gently at low speed.
Getting them is actually rather easy. Unlike a lot of brands...

Does the 220, 190 etc correspond to the wingspan? Area doesn't seem to mean that much when you consider the differences between HA vs LA. Width (wingspan) and depth (cord) is a better way to look at it I think. Any chance of these measurements while you're in the mood?

Afterthought - Having said that, the NL's seem to taper very quickly towards the wingtips, whereas the GL's are much more parallel in their leading edge vs trailing edge, so even these measurements won't be a very good comparison. Back to area after all

220: no clue
190: 95cm
160: about 90cm
130: 75cm

REALLY sick downwind and on a wing but because the front wing is farther away from the mast than the GL wings, turning is compromised unless you have a wide stance.

Interesting that you say the turning of the NL's are compromised. Most people are saying they turn great - better than the GL's. Any chance you could elaborate on what you meant?

The 360 just above is on the nl's. Never saw him make one on his Gl's.

Inspired by you I tried a few 360's this week in New England. I actually came QUITE close on the GL210.

When I say close I got the 360 but was slightly OFF on the timing for the next wave. I was ONE slight pump away from pulling it off.

BUT I only made ~ 4 attempts. A few more tries and 20 lbs less weight and I can see how it is done. Like you I flew out front of the wave picking up speed and then attempt to time the rotation into the rising on-coming face of the next wave. All it takes is one monkey pulling off the stunt for the other monkeys to copy :)

Thanks Pokahu! I realise there's more to the figures, but this is really interesting - and motivational. I've been using the GL240 & 180 for a while now (and loving them) but have decided to make the jump to the new wings (NL220, NL160 & P180) which unfortunately means I have to sell my GL's to be able to afford them. I can flat water pump the GL240 jumping off a ladder or boat to start, and from these figures it looks like I have a fighting chance of doing the same with the NL220 as it has the same projected area as the GL240. I realise there's more to it than what the figures show, but it's all the motivation I need to try!!!!!!!! I was hoping to be able to jump start the P180 like this as well but it looks like it's going to be a tough call to do that as it's p.a. is the same as the GL180 and I've never been able to start that wing by this method - 85kg is my excuse!!!! I'll give it a few attempts though

you can't compare projected area when the aspect ratios are so different. With such high aspect ratio and wide wingspan, that same projected area will have a ton more lift while at the same time less drag. Don't give up on the P180 so fast. (I don't have first hand experience with the P180)
