I agree, now we're all vaccinated, the more the virus spreads, the more pointless and stupid mandates and restrictions become. But saying we're in a lockdown in WA is an insult to people living in other states where their "leaders" did half assed lock downs, then subsequently did ridiculously strict and long lockdowns when they realised their f?ck up.

Again what lockdowns ? Interstate travel restrictions are different to lockdowns. Then again it's like talking to a lot of teenagers I teach - they hold onto certain lines of arguments that have no rational basis. WA has the same stratification of certain "personality"types as anywhere else also. NSW just has far more rats in the cage.

International pre approved arrivals doubled from 250 to 500 pp per week...WOW

But only because nowhere else has the same requirements. If every other state matched WA then very few could go anywhere.

It is only not a lockdown if you only see it from inside the particular sized box you are locked in. Make the box bigger and it is a lockdown. Would you argue its not a lockdown if you can go from the bedroom to the living room to the garden, and only a lockdown if you are confined to a single room ?



Australia had the fortunate benefit of being 6 months behind many other parts of the world with this.

WA had the very fortunate benefit of being able to sit 12 to 18 months behind everywhere else. But the notion WA can do this forever is absurd.


And from that fortunate benefit McGowan appears to have learnt nothing from anyone else. As others have said above, things like :

Having no idea what to do when you have numerous other people in front of you showing you exactly what to do and what not to do seems like nothing but incompetence to me.

I still fail to see how 5th Feb was a bad day to open the borders. No day will ever be perfect. But I have no idea how any other day will be better than 5th Feb. Lots of reasons why other days will be worse, but any why they will be better ?

Perhaps we could see the reasoning and advice behind the decision to pick another (as yet unknown) day rather than 5th Feb ?

Oh, yeah that's right it's secret.... Not allowed to see it, just have to blindly have faith in irrational decisions made by somebody who displays nothing but the air of incompetence. Maybe that swings for some people, but meehhh, not so sure myself.

If you answer something like "When WA has as more daily cases reported than any other state / territory", then that isn't a solution.

That is just an illogical reason to extend the pain until you get to the inevitable and have exactly the same outcome, just with a much longer period of pain before it.

Looks like that's the old restrictions.

If you click on the link at the top of that page (the one stating "new testing and iso requirement from 8 Feb") it goes to the wa covid site which does shows 7day iso for all household members.

Been watching that situation for while as my missus will going east soon and we've had to arrange somewhere for her to isolate so I can still work.

I believe that's only for close contacts of cases, if you're isolating but not a positive case then the household members aren't restricted.

they sure don't make it clear though- new directions are on the wa.gov site haven't waded through them, but i dug deep on it last week as i'm off overseas in couple of weeks.

Well, NSW seemed to need actual infections to encourage people to get vaxxed. That's what I saw. The reluctant waited until they saw lots of people around them get Covid before they pulled their fingers out and ignored the rubbish on facebook and went for the jab. Till then lots of people seemed to think it didn't apply to them.

What makes you think WA is any different? It will be the same minority that are reluctant.

Making a restriction like this affect their social life is going to encourage a few.

I don't even understand why anyone outside of WA cares. Its not like that many people visit.

It isn't different, that's my whole point. No different to anywhere else, So why is it acting differently ?


Don't you recall that national cabinet meeting that agreed that at 90% double vaxed then no more restrictions. At 80% double vaxed no more state borders, no more lockdowns etc. It was the national plan. 90% in that state and 80% nationally was the trigger.

Gotta be honest I didn't believe them when they said it, I didn't believe they would stick to it. I got jabbed in the main to prove they were liars and that they wouldn't stick to that plan when 80% / 90% got jabbed.

But - quite amazingly they did.

NSW did (not much surprise, I figured the most likely). two weeks before reaching the milestones they forecast forward and set the dates. Stuck to the plan 99.9%.

Very soon after Vic stuck to the plan and pretty well aligned NSW and Vic - good on Dan, he certainly had an about turn from absolute zero and abusing everyone else to living with it at 90% vaxxed and trying to get everyone aligned.

SA stuck to the plan. They appeared to look forward a bit further than others and experimented with home quarantine before anyone else was talking about it.

Hell, even Qld eventually came around. It took them a while after reaching the milestones to reluctantly forget about their Premier's statement that the policies would be set so that nobody (or maybe it was no child ?) would ever die in Qld from covid, ever. It was a slow two steps forward, one step back for them but they got there.



Yet WA is still holding out. Ignoring the plan. Doing nothing but delaying the inevitable for no benefit. Not having another plan, just ignore the plan everyone agreed on.

I am only replying as I feel you need someone to rail against. You could just state your opinions, but you need an adversary it seems.

I don't think there is any good reason not to open up, but personally pretty happy with another few weeks to enjoy summer and kids to settle in to a new school.
