I'm really enjoying my LX970 paired with the Advance fuse and Skinny stab. At 86 kg on a 5'1" Duotone Style 85 L, I was out the other day summer-blasting in just 8 knots on an 8 m F-One. It's a beast of a foil, but it gets me up and riding when conditions are marginal. Once I'm flying, it does the job, even if it feels like a handful at times. But here's the thing - as much as I love the foil itself, the AXIS fuselage is ridiculously heavy. When I pick up my mate's Duotone fuse, the weight difference is unbelievable. What's the point of having a super-light board if you're just going to bolt on so much extra metal? The current combo of wings works, but the mast and fuse feel like anchors. That's why I'm seriously considering switching to the complete Duotone Glide 2.0 900 setup. It's so much lighter, and in terms of aspect ratio and riding style, it's basically the same as the LX. Yes, I know Konrad does lighter masts and fuses, but here in Spain they're just too unknown and hard to resell.
Mmmmm yeah dunno I have just recently swapped to Code & was pretty surprised by the weight of the CF fuse on that. Compared to a F1 fuse yeah it's heavy but compared to some other chunky ones it's not too bad.
how is the code working out for you, what size etc,.....
Sorry turned out to be a long story. Short story is the first sentence below.
I got a 980s med with 150 tail. I like it, it's good. 86kgs.
While I really liked my lx970 a lot I still felt like I was stranded on a plateau where I still wasn't anywhere near others skill-wise that had been foiling for as long as me. I was pretty sure it was my abilities that was lacking but wanted to make sure it wasn't because the gear was mismatched or wrong for me. I made the mistake of demoing a seven seas 1100 which was amazingly good (for a session I was a foiling God - I think I began to appreciate the MA after going down the HA road.) & that opened my eyes to trying a different brand. What I liked about Fone & code is they sell a complete system with the recommended fuse & tail so no initial guesswork needed. Also you can get on both those platforms at a post beginner stage & keep the foils in your quiver as you progress.
I ordered the Fone however that week the social media was full of stories & videos of people losing planes from the Fone masts. Being used to the Axis fuse I was actually concerned how flimsy it looked when setting up the Fone demo myself. Later that week I watched a local walk out of the water with just the mast. That was it I cancelled the order. Now I know that the snapped screws affect probably less than 0.1% of the Fone foils sold & I still really like F-one gear but unfortunately it planted the seed & I knew I would be paranoid.
So I got the Code. I don't trust reviews that much from some particular brands however the very few reviews of the code seemed more authentic. I think more importantly I've seen a lot of riders out there on Code that don't feel the need to shout about them. As someone said to me they just do their thing well.
I've found the 980s to be very predictable in gybes, - not so much roll as the LX, forgiving in big winds & seas - the LX used to launch me off tops of waves whereas the 980 seems to stick just under the waterline. Both have similar lift. 980 breaches well. I managed to hit the reef with it not long after getting it so can attest to its' ruggedness! I really wish I had bought this foil 3 years ago as I can see it being a solid platform to improve my skills.
