The wind was a still only 5-10knots and it moved around a bit but heaps of fun back at Phillip Street today. I sailed up to the banks in front of the environmental park and caught little bay swells in across the banks on the WindSUP. Dag was over at Turner's Camp but I'm not going to sail at the end of a Ningi drain if I've got white sand, clean water and sting rays on my doorstep. Hopefully tomorrow arvo will be more light sea breezes too

I couldn't make it to Turner's Camp with Jeff and Dag, so I went back down to the local at Phillip Street to try out my new (second hand) Beachmere onshore thrasher board. At 125 litres it's the smallest board I've ever used. I had a couple of good runs but it's a totally different beastie to the big 154 litre Magic Ride and will take a few goes to get used to it and even more goes to be able to tack or gybe it. The dodgy sea breeze had heaps of holes in it this arvo so water starting at the deep water end of a run was a bit of a waiting game at times but the 'little' 40cm fin at the shallow end of the run was lovely compared to the big fins I've been using on the Magic Ride.

Was like I wasn't even there. Bloody nit-wit!! 48 k's gone.
Soooo worth the long wait. One of the best at Turner's. Really got up.
Would have been some great speeds if it was low tide, but wasn't bad at all, inside the bank anyway.
Loved the Summer weather!

Looks like we need some video evidence that we were there...

After loosing my GW60 in the water and Dags clearing his data whilst demonstrating the watch ;-) here is some video to say it may have happened...

A great day day on the water.

Adam came down to see what Windsurfing looked like as it has been so long for him

tony turned up with after sailing beers - that's what mates are for..

sean kiter came for a look riding his big black triump dressed in black leather...looking dangerous- it's what Kiters do to maintain the image :-)

a great day day on the water

cheers Jeff

Bwahaha, I did laugh when you sent me that yesterday arvo while I was rigging up.

Forecast hasn't come good today yet, I thought I'd get another go in an onshore breeze today.

Look at all those squiggly line's that go in all different directions Paddles.
Mate if you learnt how to do that, you wouldn't have to do so much walking.
All joke's aside, what a beautiful couple of day's. It washed away "Grumpy Dag".

Yep and it keeps delivering

lovely lightwind arvo at Sandstone today with Adam

I went out on the Jpslw with 9.5 and huge fin just as Adam was coming in to change down his board

A little overdone at first but as wind settled it was a great afternoon of planing delight. Still not so match fit handling the big sail - roll on summer

Those squiggly lines get a bit confused around here Dag.

There was plenty of wind at Beachmere first up then it died off for a bit and came back in again as I packed up ....... typical

The little BIC board likes a bit more power than the Magic Ride with my 100kg on it

I'm having a great time here at the Gold Coast enjoying the clear water, sandy seabed, flat water, good breeze and amiable company. Sailed at The Train Southport and was shown how it was done by a couple of the locals Dave and Tony both doing 30+ knots, also sailed with a few other friendly locals at Marine Parade in the Noreaster yesterday and the southeaster a few days ago. Looking forward to some more if wind will oblige.

Light winds yesterday, not enough to get some locals excited until Tony turned up with a pryde alu foil for his fist try.. That got our attention! I rigged my 8.6 and big thommen and he rigged 6.5 on a free formula. The conditions were really light, I was only able to plane about 50 m at a time. Perfect for learning to foil. Tony got up and crashed the first couple of goes then settled in and in an hour managed a few 50-80m straight runs. Interesting to note the foil was about the same as my f2 to get up but once he got going he just kept accelerating. I can't wait to get mine, if I can get going half as quickly as Tony I'll be stoked.

I've looked into my crystal ball and it's telling me Thursday after school and stay the night for Friday.
Late afternoon low's at Turner's. It can't be wrong.

As long as the westerly builds tonight, my crystal ball is saying late tomorrow morning offshore/sideshore Phillip Street on the high tide

Adam's just dropped by and he's making hay while the sun shines so no sailing from him unless it's late afternoon.

Wouldn't expect anything less Pete

Olskool, it's a lottery in winter, we'll only know if the wind comes in tomorrow morning if and when it happens. It's still pretty gusty here at Phillip Street anyway but at least it's offshore to sideshore and usually nice and pleasant. Bongaree is sailable when it's a westerly but gets pretty rough and is better on a lower tide over on the mainland side in the smoother water behind the weed bank, the more experienced guys will sail here. Sandstone is not as rough but not as windy either until you get out past the wind shadow and then it can be pretty good.

Stunning conditions at Beachmere this morning with a nice gusty 10-15kn SW but it was just not enough wind to really get going all the time. I used my big fin and big sail on the Magic Ride and tried in vain to keep going through the holes but just couldn't.

Don't hate winter, just have the right toy for the job. I have learned to just use the WindSUP or else I'd end up going for weeks without sailing if I waited to use short boards which is madness. Your raceboards would be fun down here on an offshore day, lots more room to move compared to the Golden Beach speedway track.

There was a bit of a puff for a while, pretty up and down. Got up to 15-20 amazingly for a little while. Beautiful arvo on the long board anyway. Here's hoping for tomorrow. Be a nice day again anyway.
