Today is the 4th anniversary of the first use of my screen motion. It arrived several weeks after ordering it. It has worked flawlessly ever since. I currently only use it for speed sessions as I have mini motions for day to day sailing. How many others still have the original motion in good working order?

Same as Decrepit, mine also came out of out of its original pouch while sailing at Wellington Point. It's warranty replacement took a while but I've had it for nearly 2 years of trouble free operation.

I think Julien has been extremely generous with his warranties.

Mine still works, sort of. After a while the usb port got munted, and despite every attempt otherwise, was not able to be fully revived. I can read the screen, which is still perfect, but I can't get download data. Julien is sending me a replacement when one is available, so +1 on what powersloshin said.

I got the first Original LCD USB Motion to Australia in October 2018. It was tested thoroughly for GPSTC approval over the next Month or two with excellent results. And then unfortunately, I also lost it from the pouch in the armband in a big crash at Sandy Point.

Julien was finally able to replace it with a wireless one in July 2021 and it has been going perfectly well ever since.

I seem to remember that some time ago Julien was asking what features we would like to add to the motion.
I would love a custom page to estimate the distance/heading to the proximity circle after a jibe, similar to what Andrew has done with his Garmin datafields.
For the mini-motion it could be a simple color flashing, like 'red = go upwind-green = bear away'....

I asked Julien the same thing. Hopefully he'll find the time to do it.

First time I've killed a mini-motion. Julien emailed last night & he's resuming production after black lines on lcd screens stopped him for some time.

Hello,

- New Mini Motion hardware does 28+ hours at 5Hz so would qualify for 24h record attempts.
- New hardware for both is more accurate.
- LCD yields are now normal again so I'll be resuming shipping far away.
- I have not received any complaint about the new charging system so I assume this issue has been solved.
- There's an optional firmware upgrade available: #3201.
- 10Hz is temporarily degraded to 5Hz on the very last hardware version (post-March 2023) as it dropped points sometimes. uBlox removed my previous little 10Hz trick. I found another one but need more data. To be clear: this impacts the very last hardware version only. For any prior version 10Hz is fine and available.
- Yes I'll do it powersloshin/John. But the next feature takes very high priority.

12 month anniversary of the top up payment to Julien next week. sigh...

Possible recharging problem was discussed already.
In short,.
After 1 or 2 month not using my Motion doesn't show any sign of life.
No lights and doesn't charge on wireless pad.
Any hope to get it alive?
If replacing batter on new one will help?

Hold on-off button while it's charging?

Just had the same with my mini motion, charged it couple of weeks later it's a paperweight

oh well, electronical stuff does that from time to time.

If you haven't already could you email support@motion-gps.com to let Julien know your motion isn't charging, (if possible with its id # if you can find it from a downloaded file), or let him know who you bought it from so he can trace it and determine the issue

my one goes back to 2020 so well out of range

in the past I had a screen device that looked dead, I kept putting it on charge for 20-30 mins every day and eventually it came back. After that I installed the latest firmware and it did not happen again

Does anyone know if the LCD motions have started shipping to Australia again? Still waiting on orders from May 2020.

I pretty much got the impression he didn't want to sell to Australia because in case they had warranty issues it cost too much to support them due to postage costs...

If that's the case maybe he should offer to refund us our money he's had for 2 or 3 years?

He must, otherwise we should call him the "Swindler" from Belgium

I never found a more honest person that Julien. When you buy from him you know that he is not an enterprise and have to wait an undetermined time. He offered to refund my money in the past, or another time take the device back for warranty.
I found waiting was worthwhile, now have two great gps.

Yes never had a problem with Julien, and have been happy to wait. Just wondering if he had started production and shipping again.

No update on LCD recently but still shipping the minis, as well as coming with the m10 chip and better battery life, Juliens been working on a new casing design which I think solves some production issues and further refines the unit. I have some spare minis coming in next order due to be shipped soon if anyone would like one, pm me if so.

The last email exchange I had, he said was producing lots of Minis but was struggling with antenna placement on the lcd motion due to the influence of the screen and battery. The Minis don't have this issue because the antenna is concentrated towards the outside. I can't give advice.

I'd like a better way of knowing whether it is on or off. Pity it can't flash the words on / off.

I'd like a better way of knowing whether it is on or off. Pity it can't flash the words on / off.

Sounds like Julien has done a fix for this. I haven't used the motion for about 2 years due to injury. I've just updated the firmware and apparently you can go into settings and set it to flash to show its on.
