They appear to charge ok on a backup battery with wireless charging.

Was using a 'battery pack' when the 'melt' issue occurred. Am using another now. original post of mine was just to recommend not leaving motion unattended when charging as a precautionary measure.

I was talking about battery packs with built in wireless charging.

Will look that one up. Nice find. ??

Mine melted first time I used it but still going strong. Just make sure it's under the smoke dector if I leave it on at night

I almost cooked my smartwatch by sitting it on that motion charger!

Mine also has the small melting dent.

You guys must just be unlucky. I haven't had any issues with mine. But to be fair I haven't received it yet. It's only been about 17 months since I paid for one.

Has anyone had contact with Julien in the last 6 weeks or so? Seems to have disapeared, hope he is OK. Perhaps he has given up, or given up responding to everyone and is spending his time building the motions instead.

Last firmware update is one week ago -> www.motion-gps.com/motion/downloads.html , so guess he's ok

About the firmware: it would be nice if a changelog was includes in the zipfile.
Improvement is needed for the Alpha values: in firmware 3066 and 3068 these are way too high.

Julien is OK. Has been sending me Mini's over the last few weeks. I think he is just concentrating on building.

The alpha result in the custom pages does not work, it's not programmed yet. The result that's displayed is the average speed over 500m

My iPhone or IPad used to connect to my Mini Motion wifi no problem. I updated to latest firmware couple of weeks ago. It is now increasingly difficult to get the Motion Logs page to load up. It feels like my iDevice is detecting that the Motion is not an Internet device and is blocking it. Any advice on device settings that might help?

Julien has contacted me on two separate occasions in the past 4 weeks. He has had other issues, which took 100% of his attention, take priority for a month or so. He has just now completed a large batch of updated design LCD Motions and nearly all had issues which were not evident in the trial batch.
Appears he is trying to supply the perfect product but continues to have trouble with sourcing of and quality of components.

Today my motion was down to about 50 percent. I sat it on the backup battery charger for about an hour (instead of the supplied wireless charger). It's now at 92 percent and no temperature change on the motion. It's actually quite cold to touch

I'm surprised no one emailed me about the plastic melting. I'll change charger.

I won't show up here much anymore. It got tiring. Trolls, new accounts and neverending quarrels. Just please email me.

It's much better this way and production is going strong. Had a few quirks on the new Mini but it led to the discovery of some nice improvements applicable to both Mini and LCD. Done 80 Mini since January 15th. Decided to scrap the first new LCD to include these changes. Now doing LCD only. Ordered quite some inventory.

Older firmwares had most pages in "hot cache" so they would load quickly from your own computer instead of being pulled from the device. It caused issues for competitions checking one device after the other so I removed it. I'll find a middle ground.

Hello!

Could users affected by the melting plastic on their wireless charger please reveal if their charger is:
- black with a silver outer ring? These were the first sent, from Mini 0000 to ~0300.
- black only (like mikey100's photo above).

I wasn't able to reproduce this issue on the black with silver outer ring ones. Nor did I ever hear about it happening back then.

I was able to reproduce this issue on the newer black only chargers.

This will decide if I simply go back to the first silvery charger.

Then I'll discuss how to best handle it with team leaders.

Thank you.

Mine is black with silver ring. It gets pretty hot and so does the motion. There is barely discernible melting above the chip. When I charged the motion from about 60 percent on a backup battery with wireless charging, there was no warmth at all.

I have 2 with silver ring and 2 all black. The two silver have slight dents in them over that part, but they work perfectly well so I don't see a problem. :-)

Mine have silver rings, they get pretty hot, but no melting. GPS get hot too (can't be good for battery?), I set an alarm, I only charge for 1hr

Silver ring. I've left it on overnight a few times resulting in overheating and it has an indentation but still works fine. I now limit charging times.

Silver ring= no problems.
All black = heat indentation. I set alarm when charging, usually 1hr

Charging without removing the mini motion from my helmet is now easy!
Just slide the charger under the strap!!

Another idea for motion packaging.
can you mould in a GoPro slide clip to the back of the motion. I've already got the clip fitting on my helmet. This way I can simply slide the motion onto my helmet and off easily!

But without the screw head slots.

Good idea, but how would you charge it then?

I wonder if it would be possible to somehow use the existing slots to attach the Go-pro base clip and have it removable for charging?

Fortunately there is now a well suited algorithm in the public domain; accurate and with minimal CPU overheads.

It can be easily ported to any device that wants to use it. :)

- I'm rebuilding the whole firmware from scratch from a different base because there's rare bugs my own code doesn't explain. In stuff like threading or low level wifi.
- I haven't looked into K888 Alpha500 algorithm yet. But I will.
- I'm only farming Motion LCD right now. Once the new chargers show up, I'll start shipping.
