I use the S1 pro from a few years back and they are light. Not as powerful as some sails out there but noticeably light.

If these came in nearly the same weight I'd be surprised.

They also look flat and boring, can't see through the membrane as they are full carbon, which you really don't need for strength.

I'll bet $5 to anyone out there who reckons these sails will be out this year.

Just letting you these will be in the market from April at latest, contact your local dealer if you want to have a look/try.

Also the window will be standard monofilm to give visibility as you mentioned.

Does NS even have a windsurfing website?

Hi Madge,

North Sails has not released the product yet, website, marketing action shot etc. should be 2-3 weeks away max

I am have now a 4.7 and a 4.2 wave sail in my hand as we speak, visited couple of retailers already and each one of them was blown away by the tech and weight of the sails.

Where are you located? We could meet at your nearest retailer and I'd be happy to show you the product in the flesh?

Delivery of the Wave sail in Australia is around Mid April, pending submission of an order of course.

Hi Swoosh,

Not all but few of them :)

I can't comment on RRP prices yet, but very similar to high end wave sails from other big brands.
North will release a line of masts too, they are produced in Australia in one of the finest factory in NSW (one of the few that manufacture the masts using a filament winding technology)

I am sure more info about mast compatibility will come out as soon as the collection is released.

Are they going to make all type of sails including for foiling?

I struggle to understand why you really want to be right on the idea of this being all fake, and also why would I lie and say I have something in my hands if I don't?

I don't have either the time nor the interest in going on a forum and try to deceive people on something that is not real.

Yes, as state before I am directly involved with the brand, so yes, again, I have the only 2x production 3di sails in australia and visiting shops to collect preorders.

Prices and inside info are only open to retailers, not to end consumers yet.

Pretty soon N.S. will release the Windsurf range to public then I will be able to share pricers and much more with anyone on this platform until then, I won't jeopardise my position just to make a point here...

You can believe it's all a conspiracy, (it seems is a bit of a trend in the last couple of years to claim everything under conspiracy) or you can hope that there is indeed a new revolutionary technology coming to out sport.

Also, I asked you twice where are you located so we could have met and show you the sail? But it seems that is even more secret than the 3di sails prices?

I am very sceptical as this conversation started nearly a year ago.
As a sail maker for North sails I have worked on 3DL sails, finishing them from blank complete foils into full race sails so I am fully aware of construction techniques and I used to give lesson's in sail making at club vass.
It just seems to have been going on for a Long Time now, promising last year that we would see them.
Just been watching Antoine Martin live in Cabo Verde using One of these sails. He's doing some impressive stuff with it. Heat 11a. I think that a light rig is great for anyone but until official figures come out I am still sceptical. I'd say at the most they will Only be 200g lighter at a guess than the current lightest sails.

yeah he's ripping. been my favorite sailor of the comp. sail looks sick too.

I think they should use production kit for PWA wave, like they do for slalom.

i used to feel the same way but these days i don't care. ride whatever suits the conditions the best. I'd rather see guys ripping on gear they like.

painting a board to look like a production board when its not i'm not keen on. that's false advertising.

Do you think JP Sailor Daniel is on a custom board painted to look like JP magic wave.

It will be impressive if they can get 4 batten 4.3 wave sails down to 1.8 kg in a robust way.
You can make a tough wave sail that lasts at about 2.2kg.
Can make one at 1.9-2.0kg but it's not going to last as long as the heavier one, particularly when considering abrasion.( If you look after your kit sensibly this isn't really a problem)
So they need to be getting down to 1.8-2kg to be lighter than the current lightest.
Anyway, it's about time there was something different coming through, the laminated cloths being used now have essentially been around since the 1980,s and haven't changed substantially in that period. Membrane was a stab at improvement but isn't really better and some implementations are worse than rolled goods, so lets see how the north stuff works out.

Looking at that sail, its actually a three batten sail with the second batten from top being a 3/4 length batten.

Also a noteworthy thing is that the whole idea of a 3Di sail it that the threads from the carbon layup go from the head to the tack and clew so they follow the capillary stress lines in the sail. Theres a window in the way with this sail so when the threads do load up they can't pull from head to tack or head to clew. Just an observation ?

It is a pity that most sailmakers don't even dare to list the weight of their sails, it does mean quite a lot for the overall feeling of the sail and the rig.

would the sail weight be with or without battens, wet or dry, including hard wear pulleys etc, unless they can all do the same it won't help.

also there's no real benefit to knowing the dry weight of a sail
