Well, depends on your skills and Equipment. The low-end can be even lower than freeride windfoiling. Do you stop windfoiling, when the wind is strong enough for fin-surfing? It is a different sport and a different sensation. There are days I do both, winging and windfoiling.

Ok, I guess I'm thinking of our local spot, Berkeley Ca, which can have a wind shadow of 0-3 knot breeze for 100 yards before getting 10 knot breezes going into 15-25 knot outside wind.
Kinda hard for wingers to get out and in without a long paddle.
A windfoil board is uphaulable, so can sail in 2knot breezes.
Even a 85 liter windsurf board can be slogged in 4 knot breezes.
And a 100 liter ws board can be slogged in 2mph breeze.
But a wing seems to need 5 knots breeze to fly.

The difference here:

i am around 210lbs and can slog with a 105l wingding-board but I can't uphaul my 115l waveboard. And I can slog on my knees or on my bum on the wingythingy. 5kn is no fun on the wingboard, but That is no fun anyway. And getting out in 0-3kn wind is probably no fun at all, no matter what you have in your hands and under your feet.

THIS!! You just killed my two in one board fantasy! I hate tightening footstrap screws let alone changing the entire set all together to switch from wing to windfoil.

This is a really good point. Perhaps indeed best to go for two separate dedicated boards. Makes the choice also easier.

I did think the other day about footstraps. What an archaic technology. They way they are screwed in. The screw inserts going bad if screwing too hard. The regular loosening. With modern tech sure there must be a super strong and light click unclick system

They make metal threaded inserts. A board which sees constant reconfiguration would be a smart place to use them.
Preferably combined with Torx headed bolts and an electric driver.

I have to say, a year ago I was really into the 1 does all boards. Right now, I am happy, that I did not go that way. The recommendations are too far apart for my liking. My windfoil-board has 130l @205x77cm. That is stable and gives me enough floatation for easy up hauling in whatever conditions I have been windfoiling. For wingfoiling I bought a Fanatic Sky SUP which has similar numbers. At first I was happy with it, but after the fifth session I already wanted a smaller board, with less weight, less swing-weight, proper Footstrap placement (for my liking that means two in the front one in the back). Here in Europe I can get a wing-board for around ?800,- to ?1000,- that is no compromise. And my last-years windfoil-board (Exocet Freefoil) is officially sold for ?1300,-. That way, I spent the same for two boards as I would for the Starboard X Wing carbon if I wanted it light for winging...

If you can test-ride a wing-specific board, that might change your vision. It is so much fun if you are able to pump onto the foil in almost no wind. And the wind-range is so huge, it is unbelievable. I just need more time on the water with all these nice toys.

Based on your experience with the Fanatic Sky SUP, what board would you get for wing foiling only? Not happy with the Exocet? What windfoil board do you have now? Looking to get a dedicated wingfoil board for my wife and future plans for myself on the windfoil board. Thanks.

Paddle on your knees and tow the wing

Wingboard is Easy: any reasonable priced board, that is below 6' @ around 110l (for my 95kg). More important: it has to be available ??. Either Fanatic sky Wing, RRD beluga, Quatro wing drifter pro, Takoon... I like foot straps with two straps upfront.

I ordered a Gong Hipe, ended up being cheaper to keep my existing windfoil board and add that one. Plus it will travel much easier and hopefully be a bit less dangerous to learn on.

Which vendor in USA sells them or what was the shipping cost? You ok with inflatable? Would like to see some feedback on hard vs inflatable feeling.

They are direct sale only, was about $150 shipping. I ordered it with a foil so hard to know what board alone would be.

I'm specifically interested in the inflatable aspect. From what I've seen they are more than rigid enough and around here our beaches are hard on boards.

Very interesting and thanks for sharing that with me. What size board and foil did you get? I like the fact that there is volume and still short. Do you have any concerns with the track mount? I didn't see a package deal with the board & foil; just board, wing and foil.

wow - starboard looks interesting - what volume suits winging given you can start from knees and dont have to pull start - i guess you can have smaller volume ?

i weigh 80 kgs and intermediate windfoiler

The next step up is 145L which I think is a bit big.

I'm going to work on a mast base mount to use it for windfoiling too. Will be a really radical little board.

Biggest complaint people have is the mast, which is the easiest and cheapest thing to adapt from another manufacturer. Probably use an Axis 19mm or else get a carbon one from Project Cedrus.

I got the XL Curve (was the Pro) which is 1900cm2 medium aspect. I just sort of guessed based on windfoiling with a 1700cm2 foil. It may be a little advanced for me, time will tell.

My intent for the mast base was something machined from G10 then installed with high strength velcro. Windfoiling doesn't create much in the way of force on the mast base, especially using a mechanical u-joint.

GrantMac, I ordered the 5'3 HIPE as well. SAME IDEA...How do I mount a mast base track to deck and have a dual use board?
Appreciate you insights on this.
- Approach -#1 - Glue and industrial velcro (hook and loop).
- Approach - #2 - Cinchable Straps (e.g board roof rack straps) that strap a mast track plate to the deck.

When I emailed Gong about putting a mast track on the Hipe they said there wasn't a market, seems like they were wrong.
I rarely move my mast base foiling but I think I'd still like to make it a track and if possible have it mostly removable.

When is your to arrive? Don't know how you got $150 shipping, unless you live close to France. To USA or Canada so far for the board only has been around $220-250. And you got a foil. Are you affiliated with them or a rider? Don't know if in the end it is worthwhile. The Starboard Wing is USD $1000 plus tax or $100 shipping. Warranty issue are simple with SB. Will pull the trigger middle of October. Need some convincing from Gong for an inflatable board.

Food for thought...inflate board, adding mast base.
Maybe foilmount with different adhesive, then webbing around board for security?
Easier to build a mast box cassette that lays atop attached with adhesive.

Sounds right. NSI makes the foot straps as you know and I was thinking that Foilmount.com would have a track for mast (not). Maybe if enough interest parties they will make one.
