Nothing puts a image and fear into people's minds/hearts like a shark attack, likely comes from deep in human history when we were part of the food chain getting killed and eaten was part of the deal.

That was a time when the environment was to humans limitless and if you read through this or any other thread that thinking still exists.

When I say thinking generally its emotional type responses hinged by personal insults with little or no rational thinking about the big picture, future just what I need now for my own gratifaction/greed.

Throw in the media looking for click bait.....more emotion.

This thread has been better than a lot pity about the bullying, ugly psychology for older men that gets passed onto their sons unfortunately.

Its been quoted at around $10 grand a day for 6 drum lines. To catch and tag sharks.. Drag them 500m out to sea and release..

That is very expensive. Just go for standard drum lines and let the shark die.

Remember standard drum lines cost around $5000 a day just for the South west.

Those were not removed morning and night, they were also not monitored constantly with a boat large enough. It will involve at least two boats. Actually the commercial fishermen involved in the last drum line have suggested it will be more around $30000 a day.

But the original number was the government estimate.

Yeah that's correct cos the fisherman involved wanted danger money and compo for the harassment he would receive from the Looney shark cult activists like last time.

I'm loving the fact they bitch sbout the cost of action , any action, while contributing to it themselves.

It's one of their fall back mantras " why should we pay for your hobby"

You can be anti shark attack without being pro-cull. Some of the arguments that the greenies put forward are absolutely ridiculous.

They moan about the cost of tagging/drum lines but ignore the taxpayer dollars being hemorrhaged on helicopter patrols, jetskis for clubbies, aqua barriers and bull**** studies like bubble curtains.

The 'pay for your hobby' claim is laughable too. Who do you think pays for footy/cricket grounds, swimming pools, skate parks and public open space.

You say that "you can be anti shark attack without being pro-cull" But then label anyone who is "anti cull with as being a shark lover or greenie".

The cost i have no issue with, i have an issue with the cost that won't help..Remember, like the millions we spent to kill tiger sharks. Back then i was tagged a shark hugger, many on here supported that cull. Well so i guess we should say not Pro cull or anti cull, we could re tag people Pro or anti waisting money..

No that's exactly what happened. Like it or not the activists basically trebled the cost of the drums last time around via personal threats to the tenderers involved and attempted sabotage. Funny you think that didn't happen.

YIp this guy rocked up to one of the company's tendering making personal threats to employees and there families.
Police had to be called and security cameras and locks put on the doors.

FACT JB but again I thought you didn't want to discuss this on SB.

Fact, there was only two "real" companies that tendered (That were considered capable by Fisheries) the company your pretending to have been attacked, actually hasn't commercially fished in over 15 years, yes however they have the capacity and the boats to be able to do so. Truth is, he re moved his tender, after thinking about the negative impact on his (very substantial) marine business to be involved with such a negative/controversial public issue. Fact, never received any personal threats nor did his family.

He only really considered tendering in the first place because of the stupid numbers being touted by Barnett. He was the only person suitable who tended for Metro area and once he removed his tender, it left Barnett with no-one other than fisheries. WHO also fought against the drum lines. Several fisheries employees actually took stress leave at being forced to carry out the cull, a few actually quit. One on many occasions swam out from Trigg point and removed bait..

As for the fisherman down south, he was very friendly, he is actually on a video series saying how friendly and respectful the (protesting) boat crews were. For the reference, he also said the cull was a huge waist of money, that it wouldn't work by they, its $5000 a day so why not..

Why kill the Sharks if we don't have to. If we put money into researching deterants we may find we can co exist.

Perhaps a balanced approach of killing a rogue shark when it's confirmed it has attacked a person and a sustainable fishery with funding for deterants to take the place of fishing once technology has advanced to a level where can guarnty safety.

Ive said it all to often, im not a shark lover. But ill take my advice from the experts, not people who educate themselves from the media and news papers..What i have pushed from day one is still the same, i just want any money spent on the issue to be spent wisely. So many on here supported the millions spent on the last cull. Now many are supporting again million again to be spent on another drum line proposal..Nothing seems to change sadly.

The big issue is the shark problem has been a political football from day one and the media love to over dramatise the issue because it sells papers (Clicks and likes). Most people quote info that they have heard, but never bothered to investigate its validity.

All too often, people post the word FACT when in all honestly it couldn't be further from the truth..
