3ft, 300m mechanical tube?
It's pretty much my dream wave. The only thing better would be three 100m tubes with a section to belt in between and a nice little ramp to finish.
As an aside, if they're having trouble with backwash in these pools wouldn't an infinity edge resolve that?

Bloody great wave... But with hind sight, version 2 would be nice with a little variety...

Although I'm fairly certain that they alter the power of the wave, and change it into more of an open face wave... But that only changes the wave, it doesn't mix up "each" wave"...

Hat's off to them though... 97/100... Gotta leave room for improvement! ;)

Did someone past the Longboarder riding the wave yet?...

Saw some footage the other day...

Mac said, it's a bit of a pro wave, 1 mistake and you're off... Yes, it seems like that, but any long tube is like that... Tubes are unforgiving! ;)...

.....

I would love to ride a more open face versions of the wave...
But I would also love to ride 10 waves in this "pool", at full power... No doubt, wave 1, you ride in front, get the feel... But wave 10, you should have it wired, have it worked out as to when to get into the tube, and how to get out... :) Even on a longer board...

Yeah, Wingnut looked like he was still feeling the wave out in the LB clip. Didn't really commit to a carving turn, or the barrel, or the nose. Kelly might not have given him as many goes as the others cos they'll sell more tickets.

I've been following this thread for a few days and though I'd finally chuck in my two bobs.

Personally I think it looks like a really easy and fun wave. Not too big, not too powerful. Just a playground.

Super sucky take offs and heaving thick lips are the province of pros, but this looks like any any proficient surfer who can trim could ride it. Barrel riding isn't that hard; it's getting in the tube that is challenging and this looks like it doesn't run away on you. Stall, bury the arm and smile.

Didn't have the sound on for the clips but Carrissa and Stephanie's facial expressions cracked me up. Like two little schoolgirls squealing with delight (minds out of the gutter).

Yeah well for some reason that wave didn't look like the others I've seen, was it the wind

Yeah for sure mate, amongst other things. Kelly's oily early morning glass was windless & other waves shown had a bit of an offshore.

What also happens with these enclosed small space waves is the swells bouncing off the edges. Backwash from the front & everywhere else...that would be the major contributing factor in the quality of the waves they've shared with us. The only way to stop it under the current design is to shut it down & wait for things to settle.

Once they find a way to cushion or cancel out unwanted water movement they will have a higher quantity (frequency) of good quality waves

No wonder Steph was giggling like a 5 year old being let loose in the candy store. Her front foot is a long way forward in this clip.

I think the video is slightly slowed down, but not by much...when was the last time ever in your life you had more than 20 seconds barrel time & that clips got her in their for 50 seconds. That hands probably down on the board not coz she has to crouch so much but because her legs getting tired

One would think that if he was not minted he is now good on him I reckon. First he gets the endorsement of the WSL and now it will be a no brainer to get the first large commercial one built - developers will be falling over themselves. Plus I am pretty sure that the people that own the holding company are well loaded already - so can probably fund the first one themselves. Once a full scale version is up and running then these things will roll out pretty quickly one would imagine. It's going to be very interesting to see if the Melb and Syd pools decide to push on with the inferior wave garden technology knowing that this is just round the corner.

Here is the most comprehensive write up yet. It gives lots of insight into the pool. Well worth a read. I am even more excited about these pools now.

Great articles Chrispy/Kev, Its hard to imagine anyone in history influencing a sport in the way that Kelly has. Both in and out of the water the guys a complete legend and I think we're pretty lucky to be around and witness someone injecting some so much positive energy into our sport, our sport which is really a lifestyle
