Does adding the yeast to warm water get it buzzing pre-mixing

Yeah Pup, but not too warm or you can kill it most yeasts will be active between about 10-30c

I had similar issues Vanders. Do a starter with sugar dissolved in water, once that's cranking add a cup or so of sultanas to your fermenter for yeast nutrient then dump in the active starter. It can be hard to get ginger going due to its bug killing nature.

Thanks for the tip mate, will give that a go this afternoon.
How much sugar did you add to get your ABV that high?

6kg in two separate ferments about 6 weeks apart. Trust me you don't want it that high. I used chilli too.

He is drinking metho.....getting all fancy because that's what metho drinkers do

LOL metho would actually cost a lot more....Scotty it works out to about $20 a keg. Bottles are too much farking around, cleaning, filling & capping. They also take longer to gas up.

A new Chinese restaurant has just opened up down the road that is meant to be good & they do roast duck. Can't wait to try them, hopefully they are as good

Oh & sampling a new'ish beer. Looks kinda like Carlton mid...but its called "Hammer 'N' Tongs" & only costs $30 for 30 cans, albeit the dodgy 330ml size. Not a bad budget beer, goes down well after work. But I wouldn't buy it for a special occasion, unless I had a tight budget. Hits the spot, ok. Just prefer a more malty flavoured beer these days...I'd buy it again, great price with so many beers chasing a premium price these days. Definitely one of the better options in the under $35 range.
