Hey Ted it's a nice place you will get waves but there's a few truths that must be said here before peeps start going. One you won't get slotted at that break like others up the coast,two.. surf camps at that point my count was. 9 camps with as many as 15 per camp.and every break up the coast has camps. And some very farkd euro dish riders Three..trade wind area so the beaches are very fickle . Four ...long travel to other breaks. My call mid Sumatra , hey I have been there just saying.

hear you loud and clear wiseman Weiry. You just highlighted several of the reasons why that area did not get a look in on my Indo trip this year. Its fair to say I have missed the boat on that part of the islands. But if my old man was shouting me a trip there and I was 18yrs of age and living in freezing cold Tassie I would be over there like a shot

Thanks for the informative post.

Kavieng in png. Short travel time, good waves, doesn't get huge and scary.

I am surprised with that recommendation from you SP - thought you would pitch for the Maldives!! Maybe its just out of the flight time regulations

Maldives is good, I'd go back for sure. but you're right, flights are long.

PNG is good though, really pretty place but wrong time if year for there.

SP...where in the maldives did you go
Any recommendations...I do not want to scare the crap out of my son, nor end up in a "hard core" surf camp...not suitable for kids if you understand
thanks

Hi Weiry,
yes looked at Fiji...the issue i am concerned about is they all look good and that concerns me as having travelled a bit for rock climbing and free diving...what looks good may not be
Hence hoping to get some sound advice from those who have gone before.
Never looked at surf travel before.

Weiry...this cloud break you speak of....should I not book there...

Seriously though, not wanting a repeat and never surf travelled as mentioned after I got burned bad on a climbing trip...great rock..awesome lingo and testomonials on the website etc BUT.....cranky guide, unsafe and very very sketchy gear (that he and others climbed on) and an itinerary (on site) that did not match what was offered.... hence asking and looking for advice waaaaay out from the event.

It costs me a hunjy in juice to do my weekly trip Pup and when this deal turned up in my inbox two days before my birthdy I thought "Fark it, deal with the consequences later!"
SWMBO (not) was a bit grumpy at first but soon got over it.
Besides she's sworn never to go there again after our last trip when she got bitten by a snake and a spider stuck in her ear for eight hours within a day and a half.
Winning.

Not one for getting slotted anyway!

Crowds are never an issue for me, I still get every other wave and if you had all surfed with me you would know what I mean

As for travelling to the other breaks, not fussed with that. Would be fun!

If we do go, could be awesome!

Well I'm after some suggestions for 90% surf and 10% party. I have one solo trip left before the world changes for me. I was looking back at grom man's trip and the Maldives look good. Fun on the longboard and the shorty, with a two day stop over somewhere for chrispy fun.
It's been years since I've been to Bali so that is a option, yet I think my last.

The more I check the net,the more confused I get.
Macs trip to the big island looks sick, but I would.rather my buck to travel further....in saying that, this will be the last and I know some crew over there which would help big time.

Strangely enough, enzed is topping my list for numerous reasons, which are all great...

I can stay in Samoa for.free and be spoilt so that is equal with enzed

Give me where you peeps would go....

It's so hard when you get one crack, well for a few years anyway

So what's happened to make this the last for some time?

I think you would love the changes to Bali, surf and you could party like theres no tomorrow.

But I'm sure there are better places, for me its always been Hawaii, out of all the places I've been
this was a dream for me back in 07 and I fell in love with the place.
