I agree Simondo. I am loading up on Slater - he looks unreal today. Although it might just be a bit of a lottery out there with whoever gets the best waves winning. But Slater at 1.65 is pretty fair I reckon.

Un-Australian maybe, but Kelly does look good. The magician... He's pretty hard to beat when he's inform. And Kelly looks to be inform!

And, doesn't that headland look nice today, and every day!

Fading swell, but there are still some nice sets creeping through. The place is buzzing today!

When they did the crowd pan whilst cheering for MP i am pretty sure i saw DJ in the crowd with his trademark grey cap on. Anyone else recogise him?

Not sour graphes but micks last wave was overscored i reckon compared to slaters 8.07 - how was that a 9 plus when he did not even finish the wave - was a great first turn but i thought slaters next two were more critical when they showed them side by side

mick keeps on the rail carving longer- judges like that

if kelly had made the carving 360 exit cleaner i believe he would have won

Could have gone either way! Either of those great surfers are deserving winners. Wouldn't want to be a judge.

Kelly's 10 - brilliant, but I would have liked a money turn prior, like a drop wallet... I really liked Kelly's 360 too. I would have scored him 9.5 for the air, and 9.0 for his 360 wave. Giving him 18.5. I probably would have given Mick a 9.0 and a 9.5. On count back by my scoring, technically, Kelly would have had it on count back!!

Congratulations Mick, very well deserved!

Interesting tactics wise. Mick had 3 waves, Kelly 13!!!.

Quality vs Quantity. or the old nightclub tactic ask 13 you might get a winner.

Very funny!! He essentially had no choice as Mick had him combo-ed very early on. He looked like he was also trying to bluff Mick into following him so he could get priority back.

probably the greatest comp aerial in history!!!!!!!.

yeah, i would have thought one move wouldn't be enough.

two massive maneuvers i've got absolutely no problems with.

and as for simondo- is he really a aussie. i think we of the lb forum better do some background research on him. if we ask nicely he might do all the research work on himself for us

For clarification, Josh Kerr opening speaks poorly of Bells, and I personally take offense to that, as I really like the place, and moved back to Victoria for pretty much no other reason than to be close to Bells & Winki. Plus I have had many surfs with Adriano in The Bells Bowl, and we've had a few chats waiting for waves. So needless to say, my allegiance rested very firmly with Adriano in that heat !

And, Mick deserved his win. Lightening struck! Kelly's 10 wasn't quite a 10 (in my book), but I actually liked Kelly's 3rd decent score more than his other rides. I said, "I'd hate to be a judge for that final", because I had them both pretty level, and Kelly winning on a technical count back... BUT, I couldn't actually pick a winner. I'm glad Mick won though, and Kelly showed humility.

There you Lacey, I dissected it for you !

Man, can't believe I have to live that final on replay.

simondo, not my opinion, never been there, but i have heard josh kerr isn't the only one that thinks that. at least he has the guts to say it.

Yes, and looking like diminishing right in time for my arrival next week.

Can't wait to be home I tell ya. Always my favorite time of year. Weather, waves, OC6 season. I'm missing it all.......

RE: Bells being soft;
There's a middle section after the bowl that backs off, that catches plenty of crew out. It doesn't barrel like Snapper, but Bells & Winki wall up really nicely.

Often the swell has to wrap into our coast too, so that has 2 effects... it cleans up the swell, but it can subtract some power, because it is refracting.

The cooler waters also give it a negative spin for some people.

But - it's an awesome place for big open face surfing.

Interesting Simondo that you comment Kelly showed humility. Perhaps he did in the post event interview. I did not see it.
What I did see was Kelly leaving the water pretty upset at the result. He did the fan parade well....but did you see the stair case incident on the way as he walked up after the event...
Humilty....umm err..not sure..upset and p!$$ed..yep

Aside from this, Micks three waves sweet..Kelly aerial ..brilliant.... Bells..thumbs up

^ Yep, Kelly wasn't happy at first. He wanted another Bell. But he got over it, and he was a pretty happy chappy by the time he got up to the booth, and presentation stage.

I was Searching for Michael Peterson today at Bells, and I think I might have found him.

Bumped into his little Brother Tommy too. He's a funny guy. A little scattered, perhaps one too many rollies and one too many beers over the journey!

Oh god, that is a 10, just watched the highlights... Great air, full boost into a flat spin and completed the spin before landing..

Fanning was ripping but that is the best boost I've seen in a comp. and **** he's 40, how many 40 year old can do that..
