Be warned : Arrawarra 99 times out of 100 is not working, although there is usually a nice LITTLE wave there most of the time. At low tide it can be very very shallow and is must be treated (even at high tide) like a reef break - that is - when you fall off fall backwards onto your butt and never ever jump off feet or face first. There is a beach a couple of hundred metres south of the point called mullawarra that is amazing and very consistent. The south end is a lovely point/beach break and the middle of the beach has a sick A frame most days. Also, although it is rarely surfed, Woolgoolga main beach is a very nice and uncrowded place to surf. We surfed/supped it for a couple of days earlier this month and had bumpy but totally uncrowded 3-4ft waves each day when arrawarra just wasn't working. If you do surf arrawarra please please please be mega respectful of the old local crew and take the time for a chat in the carpark before and after each surf. There is no agro, and they are a terrific bunch of guys and they will have a whinge but they will happily share their piece of paradise with you if you do the right thing.

Nothing of any real size down here, certainly not enough to justify the pain I'm in at the moment.

I made the mistake this morning of hanging around for a bit too long in a close out and as I was sliding over the back of the wave, she jacked up, I lost my footing and as the board turned edgeways I fell on the rail with my left hip.

My fricken god, did it wind me

Didn't stop me from going back in again this arvo but is sure as shat slowed me down.

If it comes up a good a good bruise I post a pic.

Thurs/Fri scored my home beachy on the mal at dawn at a punchy 2-3 and had an absolute blast. Just me and a chick friend on her sup. Jeez its good to be back on a surfboard again - its my first mal sesh back that just felt right ! The happiest I have been in the surf for a coupla years.

Yeah went down yesterday to see a mate in the over 60s and catch up with a few old mates from years past. I am definately a very happy old man at the moment and I just have to be careful not to overdo it on the longboard until I get a bit stronger. In all seriousness mate when that new Laguna arrives I will shed a tear - it really means the world to me to be back on a longboard.. No, I will not give up sup - it has kept me off the operating table and kept me in the surf so it will remain my therapy - but never has it been or will ever be my passion and lifeforce that the longboard is.

Hey kearnsy - if it kills me I am gunna get to WA next year - been wanting to get over there all my life and have just never done it. I've been supping for a coupla years and logistically they are a bit hard to travel with but now I am getting back on the mal again so I have no excuses not to get over there. What is the best time of year to come over when the surf isn't too big ? would love to score some uncrowded 2 to 4 foot cruisey waves with maybe the occasional safe bigger ones.

haha obct, = 4 as in day's off for the massive but
owning my little gig I get three which is the longest time
out for some time.

Sounds like its time to take a 11 + stand up out with or without
a paddle. Log it man

Me on an SUP that'll be the day

Every weekend I still get a a big kick out of seeing at least one old fat dude like me trying to use one in the surf, and you can tell for sure that they have never even tried it in still water.

It conjures up images of some young buff salesman down at Balmoral Boards, rubbing his hands together and thinking to himself, "good sale, I wonder how soon he'll be back to sell it back to me for next to nothing".

They should come with warning stickers.

"Fat old farts beware, these are not easy to ride and you will not get a 6 pack after a couple of weeks"
