Great fun today for the first 'Screaming SUPs' downwinder.
The first paddle of the season from this group saw five intrepid paddlers push on from Howrah to Kingston Beach in shifting conditions.
The muscles were woken up, some great runners had along with some unexpected dips in the slowly warming Derwent.
This group is open to all and provides a forum for people to gather a squad for a DW this summer.
Think of it as Tinder for Downwinders.
Simply post that your keen for a DW and see what happens.

Some people in Hobart might have been complaining about how windy it was today, but not the "Screaming SUPs" downwinder group, perfect conditions for a "surf" from Sandy Bay to Kingston

A big season of SUP is about to kick off, here’s some dates for the diary with more to come later.

Park Beach Boardriders Club SUP crew had a very successful weekend at the 1st round of the Surfing Tasmania State Titles @ Bicheno. The surfing and Technical Racing were held on Saturday in small but clean waves at Denison River and the half marathon following on Sunday at Bicheno, massive thanks to Bicheno Surf shop and their sponsors for organising the event along with Surfing Tasmania and the crew from North West SUP Club for making the trip east.
Don't forget to catch the crew SUP racing 12.00 this Saturday at the Carlton Park Surf Festival along with other events.

Great conditions, greater paddlers at the Carlton Park Surf Life Saving Club carnival SUP division. A technical course with a turning buoy in the whitewash made for an interesting race. Finishers in order were Mat Golding, Jake Steele, Ben Stockwin, Peter Genders, Mick Hawes and Tony Leitch.
Ben Stockwin won the adjustable Naish paddle kindly donated by Naish and Jay Sails Wind Kite SUP

The 1st Annual Inland SUP Waterman Challenge

3 races in 1 event

March 25th 2017

Part of the Hobart Outrigger Canoe Club annual regatta.

SUP Paddlers, please come along and join in with Outrigger Clubs from all over Victoria and Tasmania as well as Dragon Boats from around Hobart and Tassie at the HOCC headquarters at the

Montrose Bay Yacht Club.

First race commencing 9.30am and held throughout the course of the day.
Event 1. 10km Marathon
Event 2. 14 foot and under Tech Race
Event 3. 250 metre straight line sprint

Open, Over 40, over 50 (you may enter in more than one age group)

Placings and Trophy awarded on the overall results of the 3 events

A great day of fun competition, and an opportunity to share our sport and the spirit of Olaha.

Entry $10 per paddler to help towards Water Safety

There are awesome Canteen and refreshments all day at the event.

Interest is building for the event
Medals are on open men, over 40 men and over 50 men. And off course we have medals on the ladies as well. At this stage just open for all ages ladies, however can alter this to age groups if we have confirmation on numbers leading into event. Random prizes also for the dinner that evening. As tradition, @canoensurf will be holding their Stand Up paddle board competition, welcoming entrants of any age, gender or skill level! Should be a lot of fun

Inland Waterman Challenge.
It was a great day of racing at Montrose Bay in conjunction with the Hobart Outrigger Canoe Club's Regatta.

The format for the day was a 10km marathon, a 200 metre sprint and a Tech Race. The results of the placings in each event determined the overall winners on the day in each age group. So to be eligible to win overall, you had to compete in all 3 events.

The open mens winner was Luke O'Garey whom paddled extremely well in each event, Over 40's winner Matt Golding pushed Luke all the way in each event to also finish second in the open division. The 10km race also saw Pete Genders right the thick of the action and at the conclusion of the race not a huge amount separated first to third.

All paddlers would like to thank firstly the Hobart Outrigger Canoe Club and the wider outrigging community in attendance for making the SUP's welcome on the day.

A big thankyou to Dale Cumming and Whatsup for obtaining the SUP goodies for the members draw, and also to Dale for taking some amazing photos of the day which have been posted this week.

A Massive thankyou to Andrew Stegman and Canoe and Surf Devonport and North West Trophy House for donating the trophies for the winners. I thought the trophies looked awesome and would recommend anyone looking for trophies and medals to contact Andrew.

It was also awesome to welcome Andrew to the event for his first crack at racing on the SUP.

all in all a successful day, I hope we can all do it again next year and build on the day. Therefore please all feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Now the next thing is for North West SUP Club to organise an event up here on the NW Coast

PROPOSED ARTIFICIAL REEF - PARK/CARLTON BEACH.
A Public Forum will be held at Dodges Ferry's Okines Community Centre August 2 at 7.30pm to discuss this proposal. All interested surfers and locals etc encouraged to attend.

Hey mate I was reading this post...it says that you caught a wave for 600meters? surely this cannot be correct? You weren't riding a wave without paddling for 600 meters?

These are more runners than individual waves, you get on one and then have enough pace to punch into the one in front and keep on doing this till you finally fall down the back of one so runs of 600m are easily possible. On the Derwent we are riding wind slop, not ocean swells, this day it was a steady 40 knots with gusts to 60 so not much paddling needed

Park Beach Boardriders Club kicks of this seasons series of comps with the "Ice Cold Classic" this Sunday.
$20 gets you club membership and entry to the series that's open to SUP, longboard & shortboard.

The Ocean Downwinder will be run on Bass Straight next Saturday.
