I'm almost 3yrs on Gen 1 and have loved every minute. I didn't trade to Gen 2 as I didn't feel the price justified the perceived performance benefits for me personally. I'm relatively light at 73kg and can get my 4'8 prone board going with an 800cm2 foil. I ride with several friends on Gen 2s who last a little longer than me on their Max battery compared to my Assist+ battery but I have 3 and charge 1 in the van whilst riding on the other 2. I see the Flite innovations but I hybrid foil taxi back to the lineup so the flite jet wouldn't interest me.
The only thing I'd pay good money for is longer run time without adding significant weight.
Like to hear what people think will happen in the next few years with new iterations and innovations based on FD.
I was in a similar position prior to getting on the Gen 2, loved my Plus. The biggest change for me was the ability to ride smaller foils. I'm a bit heavier at 81kgs, the Spitfire 1100 was my regular ride. Now on the Gen 2 I'm on the Fireball 1070, an awesome wing for upwind/downwind.
This just wouldn't be possible on the Plus, not enough power to get going without wave assistance. It's really opened up that I can do on Foildrive and my sessions are hugely enjoyable. Yes I also love the longer runtime, up from around 25-30 mins to in excess of 40 mins on the standard max power battery depending on wind strength.
I was concerned about the extra weight of the Gen 2 but actually this turned out not to be an issue at all.
