Here is some good and bad news re the new V2 Amry series delivery to Aus . First up the bad . We won't see the new V2 series for at least 4 to 6 weeks due to shifting to a new factory and massive USA demand . Good news this is from a team rider below just testing out the new tails . Armstrong now has access to the foil design software & construction from the winning NZ America's cup team . The new V2 series is only the tip of the iceberg on what's coming .The Froth is on .

Great news!! Except I do hope they don't down the same route as axis, pumping out foils that become obsolete and overall a mind Fck to work out which ones to get and why. I like the simplicity of the army foils and they are good from the get go without upteen iterations before something decent.

I don't think they will do that, because so far Armstrong seem to take their time to get the best possible result and are almost the last company to release wings ,look at the HA ,and the moulds are more complex/ expensive than axis that's why I think axis can pump them out so quick, which is impressive but I've lost track of all their wings and wouldn't want to be a beginner trying to make a choice.

Yeh true. I said it a while back on an axis thread and was shot down by the axis fan boys (even though I was and still am a big fan of axis - it was ironic that my comment was on the same thread I actually started a while back saying how great their my new axis foil was) that they are using the consumer far too much as their prototype testing vehicle.

The consumer is paying for their R and D. I also understand that the sport is moving so fast and they are trying to adapt as quickly as possible to. But my point still stands.



that being said if you really know what you want then the choices they have are exceptional. But my question will always be for the next few years at least, who really knows what they want until the exponential growth phase of the cycle is complete.

1250 chop update......After another 3 hr prone sesh in smaller conditions
The glide is still definitely there and the pump hasn't changed.
I feel the initial problem I was having with the pump after the chop was due to the reduction in the tracking .It caused the wing to have more yaw while pumping especially coupled with 50 fuse and 212 tail. Just watch someone pumping from behind or look down at your front wing next time your pumping and you'll see the side to side movement.
Anyhow I seem to have adjusted to this and it's pumping like a champion again.
I think there is still more slip in the turns than before, but this can be an advantage prone , but possibly not as good for tacking upwind on the ding. ( WA boys would have more experience here and be able to comment on this )
The little bit I've lost in hard G force turns is worth it for the reduction in ventilation and easier turning.

Sky Rama commented on seeing the pic of my chop on FB and suggested I round it off. Best advice ever. Rounded off and sanded from the bottom mainly has transformed it. Back to favourite wing status.

Had my first prone with the chopped 1250. I think I may need to have to round it more. I found it much harder to pump and was all Over the place. Ya right it yaws more. Good news it gets better with good technique.

many further tips on pumping technique and also some more concrete guidelines on how much to round? Send a pic maybe hilly ??

I cut mine at 18 mm and left it pretty square. Love it. Talked to a guy yesterday that cut his and he hates it.

So Piros you have found no difference in pumping ability on your prone. Just felt laggish to me. Might take the minus 2 shim off ?

No none at all , plus I've now added the M200 tail and it's a huge improvement for pump and glide. I just run the +1.

that's just a smaller but same design as the 232 or another incarnation. ?

I found even with zero shim it felt like it wanted to drop. Running the minus 2. Be interesting if it would work better on the zero now it's chopped.

just felt laggy to me first time using it chopped - definitely fell off the foil quicker. And I was yawing all over the place.. But I was shagged from 3 sessions the day before so not sure. I have since done the vegemite round aka piros - will see how it goes.

2nd sesh on the chopped 1250 in okay waves.

so found similar to the above - can turn far more sharply with significantly less breach potential.


Pumping was much better second time around. You have to Adjust for sure
Obviously the less tracking available means she does yaw more.

Also the less tracking with the tip shape changed means noticeable less glide to me. Which equates to the need to keep you pumping cadence up and also stay as high as possible on the mast.

it does feel noticeably more draggy to me.

Havent tried it but sounds like it is there best foil. A cut down 1250 is getting close to the 1050 in cm2.

Happy to swap my 1050 with your 1250. It has been used twice. I liked the non-cut down 1250 in small waves more than the cut down.

So just had my second sesh for the day and 3rd sesh on the chop. So must have caught between 20 and 30 waves today so enough time to make my final opinion with pump adjustment made

it is significantly better to turn sharply without breaching. I went to town and pushed it well beyond what I've ever done in the last session and I never breached. Infact in the 20/30 waves today I can only remember one breach in the entire day. (Was a brain fade on a link up).

It is significantly better on / easier on steep take offs - mast height control is improved. Therefore you can take of deeper in the impact zone. She levels off much quicker allowing you to turn sharply to get high up on the wave where the power is. Surfing wise it's a massive improvement
But for the mere mortal like me - pumping is definitely compromised. I don't care what anyone says. I'm no legend in the waves but I always get a dozen or so of one wave link ups, a couple of doubles and at least one three wave - where I have to lay there in exhaustion after ! Got 4 once and had to go in - bahahahabbaha

made only two, one wave link ups today - maybe 3 But missed a truck load as I came off the foil when I normally never did. Staying high on the mast and driving through you are waiting for that glide - which then allows a couple of quick pumps to bring up and glide - rinse and repeat. Its not there. Well at the very least it's noticeabley less.
and when you lose speed and you are trying to pump it up to height - she then yaws more so your weight transfer doesn't drive through the board and foil as well.
so that's that can't have ya cake and eat it as well I suppose

my next step I think is to try that new V back wing and see if that bridges some of the loss in pump.
personally, for me - I'd rather have the pump ability but for someone why wants to crank big time in the actual waves and or is super young and fit and can pump all day - worth it

The v tail will give you more pump but also more yaw.....

It feels faster and therefore less draggy, when I keep it straight without wobbling ,with my feet centered nicely the pump feels more efficient and less effort. I have been told to move the mast more to the rear untilI hit the sweet spot then the wobble will go away....yet to achieve this so far.

Nice offer but 1250 is my smallest at this point. I commented on 1050 as from what I have seen and heard, the 1050 is considered the best foil in the range. Yet to try but with the rate of change who knows.

Yet to try the 1550v2 plus new tail that I just picked up.
